@TheSlutmuffin96 Usually when you delete a file, it's deleted. Just in case it wasn't deleted "properly", have you connected your voice recorder to your computer to see if the file is still in there somewhere? From experience, I learned not to delete any files (audio or video) from my device if I have something recorded that's important until I back up everything first. It's too easy to accidentally delete the wrong file or delete everything. I hope you find your lost file!! Best of luck
Hey guys, how come the DS 55 is cheaper than DS 40? Is there any difference or what? I thought that the DS 55 is newer and so it will be better but according to price it isnt...
@generatrix999 I am looking for one I can record with on my Airplane flights so that when a customer writes in and accuses me of saying things or HOW I say things etc I will have the proof. will this work
olympus also record on mp3 on many recording devices. if you compre specs/price i have a feeling olympus is a winner. sony is boosting price on all their gadgets that hacve something to do with audio.
Yes I did...but with every device you use, unless you're in a sealed studio room, every bit of noise/sound will appear on the recorder ...even the computer runing. It's very sensitive.
Hmmm, I think yr Japanese accent is sweet as sushi if I may add....;) I'm looking for one to order online and be delivered to a Representative to use it at court hearings on my behalf. It looks discrete and should serve well with a corded zoom/boost clip-mic.
So does the detachable stereo mic look like it will pose a problem with age in regards to weakening the jack it fits into? So like if it gets 'jacked around' will it eventually loosen over time?
I've got an Olympus with built/in mics and am wondering if this DS mic is better/worth it. It seems vulnerable, well due to its size/shape, moreso than the others, plus that mic makes the unit larger than others.
My WS 311 is 9.5 cm long 3.5 cm wide With these units, smaller is better.
Hi, I haven't had any problems with a weakening jack that my mic fits into. And I use it a LOT, changing from its own microphone to my clip on mic.
Since I use my Olympus for my podcasts, I mainly use a clip-on mic. It's easier than holding the device, and the recording is uniform instead of varying depending on where you hold the Olympus from the source you're recording. I don't get popping sounds with a clip on microphone.
Hello, I'm not tech savy, but when you say clip on mic, do you mean it is wireless or do you need to plug in the removeable mic into another jack? Also, does it have Automatic Voice Record and if so, does it record the time when it starts recording or not. For example, lets say I'm talking to a client at 3pm, does it record when I started talking at 3pm, and lets say I stop and then at 4Pm start talking again, will it tell me what time it started recording again. Or is it just neutral timing?
Hi, you can use both wired and wireless microphones. I've used both. I'm not sure about the timer because I've never had a need for that so I never looked into it. Too many gadgety things to deal with, so I only use what I need. But you can google it or go to Amazon and check out the details
Thanks *blushing* :) Yep, I recorded (and still do) all of my A Road Retraveled and Traveling Tidbits videos with this little gadget that I dropped more times than a basketball gets dribbled (did I say that right? LOL) Anything that survives MY clumsy hands and still works, I highly recommend! Oh yeah, and I happened to use it just today to record a podcast at the Gulfstream horse racing track in Florida - and used the Sony Cybershot for the photos and short videos I'll be putting up soon.

Nice (Ive got DS30) but your stuck with WMA files.
Sony makes an MP3 recorder, more convenient. Even the software download for Mac from the Olympus site is worthless.

It'll work. The DS30 has an LED option, you can turn the red record LED light off so no one knows its recording.

...haven't checked out the new ones, but all the DS and W models do not record mp3 and their software is not fully compatible on Mac

I think it's pretty durable in my experience.
Hope this helps.

I wish it was a rechargable batery. AAA bateries are expensive and I would hate buying them over and over again

You can use rechargeable batteries, they're the same as regular batteries (as long as they're AAA)...

could you tell me what you think about the Yamaha 2G Pocket Track digital recorder in comparison with the Olympus DS 40.
