I rediscovered this song and oh the wonderful things I heard. Too bad I didn't appreciate it as much when I was at this show. Thanks so much for the upload!
you know how bedlam differs.. on every other album, all of omar's riffs are fucking finger straining groovy little riffs. bedlam is just basically chords all the way through and it's just too badass
A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand
I'll take energy with mistakes over a drone-like performance that is technically correct... regardless the stuff Omar plays is extremely difficult and even more creative... Unfortunately I haven't seen them live, but I plan too when they tour for The Bedlam in Goliath!!
I've seen them live and they are alright. I only rate them as alright because I couldn't hear them that well. They are now like an 8 peice band and in an arena the sound can get really mushy and sound like just a wall of sound. I think I would prefer to see them in a club setting rather than arena from now on. But they have stage prescense like no other.
I love mars volta but I agree, a lot of the times they spend to much time freaking out lol, it´s good to actually hear the songs you fell in love with.
regardless of how well they play there songs live, their stage presence is so striking that they could drop their instruments and sing twinkle twinkle little star, and it would be the most epic performance in the history of music.
I am fairly certian Omar knows he is not playing the "record recording" like most bands do.. Every show can be a new song...Just listen to Scabdates its not meant to be "record recording" and they enjoy doing it other ways. Part of the show is being at the show, something that does not transfer over well to second hand experinces.
Hmm...I figured it would be something like that because he's an amazing guitarist. But they are the most entertaining thing to see live and I don't think they need to mix it up all the time. But yah I definitly enjoy them...just a few minor grievences.
The Mars Volta is pretty good live...they could just be a lot better...Omar misses a lot of notes sometimes...its annoying. But most of the time they are on. Theres a video of Asilos Magladena and it sounds pretty bad. Omar is the only one that I can say really screws them up. Even though hes like the lead man of the band. Everyone else is usually spot on in their performance.
no one can admit that the mars volta is "shit" live because first, it's an opinion, and secondly because the people you are addressing, including myself think that you have no musical depth or a penis.

OK, I'm sorry, but I hate it when they add all those maracas and banjos and all this extra percussion crap. I think it sounds bad, and this song is one of my favorites. These days....I just wish Cedric would shave, because he looks really hot when he shaves.
Anyways, other than that extra percussion shit and Cedric's ugly thick facial hair, this is a great live performance. Thanks for recording :)
yeah as much as omar rights all the music, and cedric rights all the vocals and vocal melodies jon was a really important influence to the band, and i reckon this new guy wont be able to recreate that..or half as well, but maybe ill be proved wrong..time will tell..
first off omar and Cedric are the band's heart cedric feels the music in he's body why do you thing he dances while he sings and if you ask me cedric is one of the best singers out there with a awsome voice period!
WHO THE FUCK CARES what his hair looks like. Does it really effect his playing.NO!...its a damn shame Jon doesnt tour, I hope he does still record with them. Hes seriously half of why they are so good.
i wouldnt have minded at all if they replaced any1 other than jon. I'll bet you blake is gonna play every song like a robot, not adding emotion or anything to the song at all. i kno jon would have...and i'm even gonna go as far as say jon's drumming reminded me of ginger baker in his cream days. man i miss jon...
i miss jon's drumming. i mean i'll give blake a chance but jons departure took me by huge surprise. (his drumming on the scabdates version of concertina actually got me more into the mars volta) well i'm bummed! i was looking forward to hearing the amazing textured drum solos he does live but i guess thats not gonna happen now w/ jon not part of theband anymore :( there better be a damn good reason why they dropped him or why he left!
man wtf is omar thinking cutting his afro. He better have a nice thick fucking afro when i see them the 31st. 24 days is plenty of time for it to grow.
Aww. Im sure Blake is good. But I really liked Jon and am a little bumbed I wont be able to see him at the Mars Volta shows I am going to. Oh well I am sure they will still be fucking incredible and this Blake guy has to be good too if hes good enough for Omar and Cedric.
I know he started with TMV and he played on some "early demos", but I haven't seen any credits for him, either on the album or by the record company stating that he played any of deloused. To my knowledge Jon started was on Tremulant and continued from there. If you disagree then please show me some evidence otherwise. I'm not trying to be difficult; it would genuinely interest me knowing what recordings Blake actually played on.
I would like to re-track from what I said about blake appearing on Deloused but he was still there from the beginning of TMV, so lets be patient and wait until we hear what his stuff sounds like, the band picked him for a reason.
learning all those songs in a couple of weeks is pushing him... and i think its ok.. i guess that we need to wait in order to see what he can ADD to the mars volta music...
I'm excited about Blake honestly. To learn those parts in 5 weeks is rediculously hard. They're going to sound different now, but I don't think thats a bad thing. We shouldn't judge him until we see it live anyway.
we need to give the guy a chance i guess, he's got some big shoes to fill. Then again I think a band like mars volta should always welcome change. Jon fans are understandbly pissed but volta fans should let mars volta be what mars volta is and becomes. Jon will be missed but blake should be welcomed
well, i thought blake did just fine. who knows when the guy was handed the torch and was told "hey learn all these complex rock songs in a couple weeks and go on tour with us, oh and fill the shoes of one of the best recent drummers in rock music" give the guy a chance. oh, and i dunno why the audio is off, sorry.
you guys are all so weird focusing on the DRUMMER. Listen to the big picture, the music. I was there also, changed my life. I sure wasn't saying "hmm this song sounds a little off, the drumming totally sucks wow hes ugly!" C'mon. Don't even call yourself a mars volta fan.
To me, it sounds pretty much like the album. So it's good that Blake can reproduce the recording, but I'm interested as to what kind of new flavor he'll bring to the party.
i have only but a million blemishes to tell you about.
