@cleomagoolando I remember my piano teacher, 1970, telling me that this was written for an amputee soldier from the First World War. She was over 80 years old when she told me this, but I never 'confirmed' it.

Well, the Tempo marking is "Allegro Moderato" and that puts it in the 116 bpm ballpark by most of my research. I guess you could completely ignore the composers wishes and play it Allegro Assai, but then it would only be a 1.5 minute piece of music and all you would hear is 'fast'.

As an etude the speed markings should be taken as a minimum - perhaps, yes, you could play it around crotchet=116 but it wouldnt train your hand at all. This piece isn't hard, op92/4 is perhaps a bit more challenging.
