This is the first time I listen to this version performanced by Victor Silvester. It is beautiful and elegant. Thank you for posting it. I know a version performed by Blue Seas Grand Orchestra, a Japanese orchestra, which is also very beautiful. Besides, the vocal version sung by the Patters is also nice too.
What year was this beautiful song composed? A friend of mine had this song on a 78. It sounded like it was from the early 1930s. It was a very atmospheric slow fox trot, I wish I knew who the artest was. But I Think it had the dorsey brothers in the orchestra. anyway what a wonderful record it was!
It probably was. I was around 11 years old when I first heard it. And sadly it was the last time I heard it, But I`ll never forget the melody! I LOVE this version as well.
Great thanks! All the memories are back

An orchestral version was used as the theme to BBC Radio's "Desert Island Discs" devised by Roy Plomley in the 0s and still going today.

Amazing. No other orchestra has been able to come close to this.

Ah, those were the days: 1953, Roylance Barkingside and ballroom dance lessons with my lovely Andrea. Mmmmmmmm......................

Way back in 1962, as an Army Apprentice, at Hadrian's Camp, Carlisle, I learnt to do the Modern Waltz to this type of music.
Not only learnt to dance but got the oppotunity to meet, and literally get my hands on some very lovely young ladies. Oh! to be 18 again!!
I even taught our eldest Daughter to do it, and we danced together as my wife and I celebrated our Ruby wedding Anniversary last year!

His music was for strict tempo dancing.
