Actually, I've seen all the episodes of HF, Odyssey, Helena Chronicles as well as Farragut and Exeter. The fact that James Cawley appeared on HF, says that even HE recognizes the quality of HF and its spin off series. And he owns his own company and puts out his own Star Trek fan series.
I am honestly impressed with HFP's works. I only wish I could personally BE a part of something like this!
Both of them have, if I'm not mistaken, released a total of TWO episodes. Wow. Now THAT'S what I call long running series'...
Having taken a brief look at both projects, they're still vastly inferior to HF in the same way TNG is inferior to DS9: They lack a story arc connecting all (or rather "most") episodes, which was one of the best things about HF.

This actually looks kind of good, but the ships don't look right. The rings look totally pointless, and they look pathetic. And the fact that you guys made this kind of turns me off the whole idea, no offense intended, but Hidden Frontier was awful.
Do you know other fan-series to compare Hidden Frontier with and that, in your eyes, did a better job while also running for seven years and continue in multiple spin-offs?
If you indeed do, then I'd really want to see them. Honestly.
If you don't and simply compared a fan-series to Hollywood-grade productions when you claimed that HF is "piss-awful", then you obviously don't have any idea what kind of work producing even a short movie actually is.
Starship Farragut, which wasn't that great, was far superior to Hidden Frontier. Another that comes to mind is Starship Exeter. Both of these were fantastic, but Hidden Frontier, and the other piles of shit those people made, don't compare.
One can find both excellent and awful examples of any aspect of the episodes in Hidden Frontier. The quality of the writing, acting, costumes, makeup, CGI, Greenscreen, directing, and so on all varied between those two extremes over the course of production. As the series progressed, the quality improved.
In particular I am anticipating that the stories to be told, which is what SF is all about, will be excellent in Frontier Guard.
Hopefully, the eggbeaters will never be explained...
I'm not saying Frontier Guard will be bad, and I applaud these people for trying something original rather than sticking with Star Trek. I realize that Frontier Guard is a work-in-progress at this stage, but Hidden Frontier was just awful. I am amazed at how these people are defending it. IT'S NOT WORTH DEFENDING! Their only redeeming quality was the writing, and even that was a little shaky. Everything else was mediocre. And the creators and viewers seem content with mediocrity. Why?
But you do seem to be saying that Hidden Frontier was all bad. If so, I disagree. HF had some very good acting, and some that was not so good. They had some good makeup, and some that was not so good. I retract my earlier comments on costuming, it was quite excellent throughout. The directing was sometimes awful and sometimes good. The CGI was generally good, just overused.
People defend HF because they are comparing it to other zero-budget web productions, not to network fare.
For the life of me, I do not understand why they - or any other fan film producers who make such CRAP - would dedicate such a massive amount of time, energy, money and other ressources to producing an end product that is just terrible? It cant be fun to slave away for endless hours in your spare time, making something the majority of the audience considers crap? Especially when you're not making any money at it!
Rather I would, if I were doing it, set aside ressources to get a decent acting team. Pay professionals if I had to, they dont have to be known or anything - just good. I'd also pay decent writers if I had to, to get decent scripts to work on for the next two years, rather than accept some shit thrown together by a fan-fic writer of age 19, or whatever!... Wouldnt you? I mean, c'mon! The end result would be something to be proud of - atleast you'd've done your best!
Or maybe they really are eggbeaters; cosmic eggbeaters to fluff the surrounding spacetime into a tasty space age confection which can then be scooped up on the fly to provide nourishment to the crew and power to the ships' ecofriendly engines. The smaller ships can only harvest at impulse to prevent being overloaded by an influx of cosmic scrambled eggs at hyperspeed, but harvester ships are specifically designed to gobble up maximum material in hyperspace. It's the ethanol of the future!
Well I guys I have a lot of respect for what you do but...
The ships are too busy - those ring things mean I stop looking at whats going on and look at the pretty spinny thing. Plus (and heres the important bit) if there that crucial, why dont the other ships just fire at those as they look pretty week, then zoom off...
Also, redub it. The god voice is good but he hasnt got the right tone (not deep enough).
Now, all that being picked at, I'm looking forward to it.
You guys have come a LONG way since the advent of Hidden Frontier. You CGI work has improved dramatically as well as your use of green screens. I am really looking forward to this new series. I appreciate all of the hard work you guys out into these productions. Are you planning to leave Star Trek behind and focus strictly on this new series or will you continue to produce both simultaneously?
Spettacolare.

Thanks for the support, we believe all the series' have their strong and weak points and there's something for almost everyone.

You know why they only have a couple of episodes each? They actually TRY to make something worth watching, which takes time.
