  • Oh, and I'm quite sure people will turn around and tell me what a hypocrite I am for speaking against intellectualism whilst simultaneously trying to sound smart myself. The truth is, we're all hypocrites in some way. We lie, we fail to understand, and we make mistakes, but isn't that what humanity is all about? I don't wish to stand above or be separated from anybody simply because their opinions or dispositions don't agree with my own. Sincerely, with all my heart, stop fighting and just be.

  • @IAmMrChainSaw Best comment I have ever seen on a video, better than "THUMBS UP IF U THINK JUSTIN BIEBER IS GAY LOL!!!!" at least.

  • But seriously though, I would rather pride myself on the virtues of honesty and humility than try so hard to seem important or intellectual above human. I truely don't give a flying fuck about what people think. Human intelligence is innate...bottom line. Whether a perceived level of intelligence is higher or lower than another is all a matter of circumstance. Ultimately, statistics and standards are meaningless. Let's all just sit around a campfire and love for eternity. How does that sound?

  • "Some people without brains do an awful lot of talking."

  • Besides just because a man is fucking crazy doesnt mean his opinion is less valid, pretanding to be smart, actually can make you a politician, it takes charisma to pull off...and thus you arnt actually pretending at all if you can out do the moron you are talking to :P

  • Sometimes using technical words may be required in order to communicate an idea. You need words with very concise definitions when dealing with technical subjects or else you will be very easily misunderstood or strawmaned. Its a common tactic in youtube debates for a person to bring up overly simple arguments that require complicated responses, then dismiss his/her opponents as a pseudo-intellectual instead of giving a real counter-argument.

  • @Caveman135 not really man, allthough the creator of the video is exactly what he is trying to describe, he really doesnt know shit...all a pseudo Int person is...is a person pretending to be smarter than they actually are,by using charisma and simple knowledge of a wide variety of subjects to find a weakpoint to exploit in the opposing speaker and gambling that they dont have enough knowledge to call them out on it, thus you have to derail to another subject

  • @MadMAn12gauge

Have you ever heard of Sarcasm?

  • @PeterThenn No why dont you refresh my memory and ask me that question again

  • @MadMAn12gauge There is an easy solution to your problem; judge the argument, not the presentation style. If you realize that someone is full of shit, then stop debating them because your not going to learn anything from them other then how to bullshit. What else could one say about that?

  • This gave me a laugh, what a pseudo intellectual way of describing pseudo intellectuals!

  • LOLOLOL this video is precious, Peter, I am sharing it on my Facebook main ID, thanks buckets for taking the time of doing it. I love Fish :0)

  • Since members of Mensa score within the top 1% on intelligence/IQ tests, they are, by definition, intelligent. They're not pretending to be intelligent. Simply using complicated words or technical terms (fluently and within the proper context) does not make someone a pseudo intellectual. It makes them smart/educated/adept. If you have a problem with genuinely intelligent ppl, then you're an anti-intellectual. A pseudo intellectual is a false intellectual. Genuine intellectuals do exists, however

  • @ritter89

    I know.

I was offered membership in High School.

  • @ritter89 Wow. This may sound like an insult because of this video, But you sound really smart o3o

  • Ha, Ha! He says "symptoms" instead of characteristics. Good observation, buddy.

  • Haha half of the AmazingAtheist's subscribers are pseudo-intellectuals. Read the comments on his videos it's fun and funny to laugh at all the people trying to be intellectual.

  • i know the very person you speak of..they are annoying as fucking hell..they do usually tend to think that their beliefs, ways of thinking are superior to others', and they try using sophistocated language to prove simple points about things..

  • Most teens these days are pseudo intellectuals

  • Interesting. Reads like it is out of the DSM.

  • To clarify, that's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual regarding psychiatric conditions.

  • I've never read that.

    This is from personal experience.

  • It is well written with insight that can be verified from personal experience likely. Given some recent events, perhaps, prophetic also.

  • You'll find hundreds of them on deviantART.

  • 5:42 Yes, I do.

  • I think I have some of those symptoms.

  • Only idiots hate pseudo intellectuals. like watching MTV is going to make you more intelligent... and at least they make an attempt at understanding something complex. Only jealous haters and morons hate pseudo intellectuals.

  • Ahh, yes. People who think they know everything annoy those of us who really do. ;)

Although, I see nothing wrong with quoting sources, if it will prove a certain point. That's actually quite logical, rather than using opinions and claiming them as facts, as many people tend to do.

People who get mad when they are proved wrong really just need to "chill out."

REAL intellectuals would consider it an educational opportunity to be proved wrong, and learn from their mistakes.

  • True. The term pseudo intelligent seems to get bandied about a lot, especially on the web in various logic and knowledge communities. It seems many are so close minded they will call anyone pseudo intelligent if they disagree with them, regardless of what the person says. Seems that pseudo intelligent people go about calling other people pseudo intelligent the most. I also think the real mark of one is the curious ability to pull quotes and remarks completely out of context.

  • Though I would say some of what is in the video is very much about perception and the context in which the attribute is displayed. Like if someone calls another person stupid of course the person would be shocked and upset, it is only natural...

My last point would be the best way to find if someone is a 'psuedo intellectual' is to ask them to describe quantum theory. This is when 90% of people, and many intellectuals would say "I don't know" but pseudo intellectuals feel the need to explain it

  • ...even when they don't have a clue.

Apologies for the aweful grammer and spelling. I'm not the best at either, though Youtube comment sections with character limits do not help.

  • Exellent presentation , in my country (kuwait) we have lots of pseudo intellectuals and every description you mentioned applies to them exactly.

I wonder what made you post this presentation about the pseudo intellectuals?
