the difference between Jon Lord and other classical musician, he could play with his feeling and soul, he only look at the paper when he needed to, not like many other that look at the paper their entire time
@anonymouslolxD ... actually... at 4:15, he DOES let a stick fly. paicey keeps a supply of spares right under the hi-hat, when he does occasionally drop one he can grab a replacement and keep going literally without missing a beat.
now THAT'S a pro!
God bless these guys for carrying on 40 years later!
Remarkable how GENINE PURPLE invites brass to wring-that-neck ..they merely just fill the empty spaces...if ther eare...with back-groung no-meaning-brassy-thing.
I love heavy metal and hard rock the most, but I have a deep appreciation for blues, jazz and classical, so this was very interesting, fun and entertaining to listen to. Deep Purple in one of the few bands (also Black Sabbath) that can pull something like this off and still sound godly
my love of different styles of my goes like this
1.) Hard Rock
2.) Heavy Metal
3.) Blues
4.) Classical
5.) Jazz
or a combination of any of them, especially with rock
yeah but that style that you mention has a name "Ritchie Blackmore". You mention just purple and sabbath.... you must to listen Rainbow
Try: Catch the Rainbow, gates of babylon, long live rock n roll, rainbow eyes, kill the king, stargazer, sensitive to light, light in the black...Most of the songs from their first albums, where were together Ronnie James Dio(Dio and sabbath)Cozzy Powell (Jeff Beck, sabath, whitesnake) and the great Ritchie Blackmore, if you like AOR lsiten the next albums
actually the bands I listen to the most are Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Dio, Elf, Gillan, Godsmack, Heaven and Hell, Ian Gillan Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne and Rainbow. I own four Rainbow albums (There debut, Rising, On Stage, and Long Live Rock 'N' Roll.
This song is one of the highlights of their often-forgotten first lineup. MKI Deep Purple was a great great band, but people only remember Deep Purple from In Rock onwards. Their first three albums with Rod Evans on vocals and Nick Simper on bass are amongst my all-time favourites. My favourite song from that era is "The Painter".
Paice is the man of this version. Simply great drumming. Whereas Lord is repeating his solo phrases for - who knows how many times. No progress since the early 70s at all.
I just watched the 'Wring That Neck' versions from 1969/70 and they were great! No comparison. This here is just terrific. I think i would walk away from a concert like this.
Good effort, interesting experience... but they turn it into a RayConiffesque version. This one cannot be done without Ritchie on the lead, but sadly now he's more interested in pricesses jailed in enchanted castles.
You're very wrong, my dear! I do like Purple right now as much as then. I just went to a gig last week and they were superb; however I too believe Steve could pitifully do this number as Richie did.
It's probably a great experience for them (i.e. Lord, Glover, Paice and the orchestra) but I don't care for it very much. Early performances of this piece always were an excuse for the band to kid around and self-indulge a little, I guess that didn't change, but I did.
lol we dont need distortion from ritchie that would ruin the song.... annd he did not like it cause all he can do is rock, he dont know how to play along with jazz and that stuff..
