  • Love this video, really made me think. I have my hair texturized, my hair is still healthy, big, beautiful and curly because i have such a good hairdresser but now im considering growing it out to embrace my 3c/4a hair! why not! :)

  • lol wow you took it to School Daze!

  • another informative and motivational video! Your hair looks so thick and healthy! Way to go

  • Love your approach to the videos you create! I don't perceive your vids as preachy. I just see a person sharing a personal perspective in an a very thoughtful way. I had relaxed hair for many years. I enjoyed the look of it but not the burns/scabs that came with relaxers. I respect choice. It is awesome that there is so much more acceptance for people to embrace the hair they have. I want people to feel free to have relaxed, weave, or natural hair. Just know pros/cons of your choice(s).

  • I think it's a choice. If someone wants to relax or stay natural, it's soley up to them and how they want to style their hair. Some people use hot flat irons and straightening combs, some people use gels and conditioners, some people get braids, some hair weaves. I'm glad that there are so many choices and one is not better than the next. Hair care is the key. How you care for your hair determines it's health and overall appearance. Propoganda narrow people's choices. And, it's a dirty trick.

  • wow this is such a great video. I definitely loved the ending. I would love to see that musical come back. What is it? Honestly I hate having straight hair. When I big chopped I felt right. Completely comfortable and yes that soul glo commercial is awful lol. I could see the grease glistening lmao.

  • so happy to see another video from you. you helped me make the jump to do my big chop and try my best to love my hair, even while it is short.

I finally did it after only about 2 month in sept of last year and I'm still going.

Just wanted to say... thank you.

  • Great video

  • Nuff said!

  • You forgot Ultra Sheen ... Afro Sheen ... & Ultra Sheen COS-metics. :p

  • This was great!

  • We need to send this to a film festival...Wow, i am so moved!!

  • You now have the big hair you longed for. Happy for you. I only learned about my hair when I went natural. Then I saw the incredible damage that was done to my head. I was shocked and got very much help from the knowledge in the youtube natural hair community. A relaxer maybe fine for some but absolutely wasn't for me with my fine hair and sensitive skin. I like the way you brought your point of view.

  • ahhh! looking at your early videos and now you are such an inspiration. look at that hair. absolutely lovely.

  • This video summed everything up beautifully. It was heartbreaking to see that little girl go through that! its important for us naturals to teach (in a non judgmental way of course) those women who do not know, the background or history of our hair, the proper way to maintain it and so forth.

  • Just let yo soooooooooooooooul glooooooooooooo! ahah I love that movie!!! I saw that Tyra show and it was just heart breaking. Those little girls didn't know any of that info that's just what their moms told them.. why would you relax a little child's head like that? You know how a relaxer feels as an adult so imagine a child. Im on my second big chop bc a "professional" pressed and curled my hair.. ladies beware!!! Great vid!

  • lol @ Soul Glo i'm over here dying!

  • @oshea90220 Every time i see that i fall out. It never fails!! Especially that guy like he just woke up one morning and found a jerry curl...lol.

  • That Botanicals relaxer commercial cracks me up! "I'm tenderheaded. My scalp is very SEN-SA-TIVE!" lol

  • LMAO @ soul glow

  • Girl, I loved it!!! You should've shown the part in Chris Rock's vid of the scientist using the eyedropper of sodium benzonite in the piece of chicken, definitely was an eyeopener for my eldest sister. We've both been natural for 2 years now, congrats on your 2 years as well. Check out my anniversary vid, you'll love it!

  • I am so glad to see you are still around. I missed your great videos:) Everyone seems to be doing well:) AND YOUR HAIR LOOKS GREAT!

  • I agree! There is nothing morally wrong with relaxing your hair. BUT, in my opinion, natural is the way to go. My hair is healthier, stronger and just overall in a healthier state and also growing like wildfire. Hey, if you want it straight flat iron it! lol

  • Funny... I found myself smiling when 'organic' relaxers came out. I even tried them and I still got the same results - thin fragile hair with lots of breakage!

Thanks for being an inspiration. I've been natural for over a year but hiding my hair under braids until a month ago. I love my hair as it is -and all of the talk about soft hair? Well, my hair is soft and chemical free!

  • Very informative video!

  • AWESOME job!! Thank you for this vid. I think that we all as women of color need to understand the why/where the "GOOD HAIR" term came from. A little history goes a long way.

    Keep it natural ;-)

  • Five stars, two thumbs, and two big toes up!!!!

  • Great video...I missed u!! Those vids brought back memories during my relaxed days years ago...so glad to be natural!!!

  • Great video!!! It's good to see you back! Love the ending. School Daze? isn't it?

  • Great video. Very well put together and informative.

  • Wow I love this. Very informative & not at all catty or argumentative, just straight forward & educational. I have to share this with my daughter.

  • wonderful video. the commercials and video's that they made back in the day don't look that put together well and actually silly....how could we feed into such foolishness. hair is actually seperating people....this should be unreal but it's our reality. i surely hope that this isn't a movement for us women because just looking at your video: we change up alot. from relaxer to no lye relaxer, to weaves and wigs...i'm ready to just be healthy me...sick of all the changes...i want to be me

  • What's sad is people still have that mentality. MY mother is like that. She even went so far as to call the hair of this lady's daughter GOOD HAIR, I just sat on the phone for a moment. I, personally, think she is this way because something must have happened to her in high school when they integrated( I'm from Texas). So of course she doesn't really like mine, which gives me ALL the more reason to be nappy. How can you NOT like having low maintenance, high quality, HEALTHY hair?

  • OMG-- This was terrific. I hope as many people as possible get to see this!

  • I must say you did a tremendous job in creating this video, you really reasearched and i loved seeing all the archive footage you found !

  • This was wonderfully put together and got the point across. I liked the experiments with the relaxers on your strands, to me they looked weaker after being exposed to both of the relaxers. I also enjoyed those old commercials..I remember them and ya I was rocking a curl to during the "coming to america soul glo" days. You making me want to go a rent School Daze just to see that "good and bad" hair segment! Again..well "said"

  • Was Soul Glo an actually product or did you throw in some Coming to America action? Lol, anyways, I'm currently natural but I'm so feed up with my hair I may just go back to the dark side and relax! I'm tried of the shedding and not knowing what use and there are even fewer natural hair salons with knowledgeable staff here and I live in one of the biggest cities in the U.S. Sorry, apparently I needed to vent. Please don't take offense:(

  • Love this video :)

  • Loving the HHAAAIIIRRR TODAY! Thanks for this informative and in a way funny vid. Now I have to go watch Coming to America

  • Great vid!

  • @NaturallyCreole Thanks :)

  • O no...not the 90s

  • @2hot101 Yes I went back in the way back machine :)

  • Can you tell us the name of the French song you have playing in this video?

  • @cymonebreathe the song is Samba Saravah by Stacey Kent

  • @cymonebreathe Samba Saravah by Stacey Kent but I see cymonebreathe ur back too :) She's awesome when singing french but her english songs aren't as interesting to me...weird huh?

  • Thanks for sharing! Nice stroll down memory lane.

  • The sister said " Perming was a means of survival and possible freedom" . WAW. Knowledge! Thanks for sharing sis :)

  • @mizG1nonly Anytime! It's hard to wrap my mind around just how institutional our ideas about hair are. Deeply twisted roots...pun intended :)

  • I missed your videos!! :o)

  • You look Beautiful and your HAIR!! WHAT!! KRAZI GROWTH AND THICKNESS!!

  • @tjbmom123 Thanks so much!

  • Hello There,Great Video! (*~*)

  • @beautybynajah It's bee crazy busy for me this Spring but I really enjoy squeaking out a vid when I can. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks again!

  • 1:50 what the bleep lol that was hella ghetto XD but icouldnt stop laughing

  • great video

  • That was good.

  • I LOVE this, I remember watching that ep. of Tyra & Good Hair is one of my FAV. movies!!~ ;D

  • Wow, thank you for this. While my curls are difficult to manage at times and I struggle with uneven lengths, I am still happy for my natural hair.

  • @mdprimar Amen! It really is a "journey' huh?!

  • Great video and your hair is really growing, Girl. Gorgeous !!! Thank you :)

  • @StaRwaka Thank you sis :)

  • That about sums it all.

  • Great video!

  • I love this video. It wasn't belittling to those who wear relaxers. Just informative. Very nice!

  • @musiq4dasoul82 Thank you I really did NOT want to come off too preachy but just to make people think for a bit. Thanks again sis :)

  • That was Great! The message was POWERFUL!

  • @NaturalBornIdentity Thanks so much!

  • Great video!

  • This might sound silly, but ... is that soul glo an actual commercial or just for Coming to America? I'm guessing the latter because I couldn't find soul glo on google.

  • @nonfictions No it wasn't a real commercial but I had to put it in there. It was too great not to make it in :) Not a silly question in the least. Take care now :)

  • Great job! One of the best videos just concentrated on this topic in a long time!

  • Great to see you! Excellent video. So many good points brought out. I think it's totally ridiculous to put relaxer in children's hair...just my opinion. It's a shame the complex some women have thinking that "straight/relaxed hair" is the one way to be associated with beauty.

    Your hair looks great...it's grown:-)

  • @1221tam Amen!

  • Loved this video, gonna show it to the girls in my family. Thanks so much.

  • @mrsallen0171 I hope they enjoy it too. Thanks for the encouragment! Bless you :)

  • wow! your hair has grown! :-D
