Thank you sooo much for posting this. I remember the Funtown days. My parents took me to Funtown(95th and Stony Island Avenue...Funtown!) R.I.P. Brother Richard.
Tell me about it!! Moms and Pops used to take me and all of my little cousins to Funtown and Jewtown on sundays after church too. Now it's a Walgreens and a bunch of other crap in it's place at the corner of 95th & Stony before you go under the viaducts where the Bishop Ford begins. We wil always miss Richard Pegue..The Best Music Of Your life indeed. r.i.p. Richard, have a peaceful journey and thank you!!
You mention Jew-town! Man, it's a shame that we've lost all those old places that we had for years. You can still get the Polish sausage and pork chop sandwiches but it's nowhere near the same environment. Though there are many who say that area has improved. It's looks definitely have but the feeling and fun of the place have been lost.
JewTown was a legendary part of Chicago. there will never be a place like that again where Spanish,White,Black,Jewish,Asian and other types of people got along and did buisness together. Don't even mention the Polishes, hot french fries, pork chop sandwiches and cold Upper 10's,Nehi's and RC's. Those days were just golden!!
All I didn't learn about great oldies from my Mom and Pops I learned from Richard Pegue's saturday night show on WGCI 107.5 back in the day and now WKKC 89.3. Pegue is a legend and the man has music for days!

Plus I miss Richard playing his theme song "Stay Awhile With Me".

Forgive the typo in the previous post. I meant to say 'everything you say' Anyway, your point about how cosmopolitan JewTown was is a good one.
