?? Star Trek target demographic has always been adult...
In the 60's its timeslot was 10PM Friday nights purposefully targeting adults...
In the 70's they discovered it was specifically being watched by adult males 18-35... The largest target the 2009 Movie reached is adults 35 to 45... JJ Abrams reboot isn't working for the younger generation. Star Trek TNG had better success on TV with the college crowd... So, I speculate eventually CBS will figure this out...
@rhacker382 The timeslot was 10pm Friday nights because CBS was trying to kill it. They didn't want it up anymore, but only put it on for a third season because of a massive letter writing campaign.
This is what caused TOS to be canceled, because it's young audience was out socializing at 10pm on Fridays.
@MrHoppers002 Well that's good! :) Actually, if I HAD been around then, I WOULD have been able to see it, since in my family Friday nights are family nights. :)
@MrHoppers002 It's fun. We usually watch movies, though we used to also play games before we all started growin up. We stay up late and just hang out together. :)
And THAT'S the regular Star Trek Universe! Wait till we visit the Mirror Universe... or worse, the 2009 Movie! :P Very amusing and interesting stuff here. :)
TOS wasn't targeted at a younger audience, though. It was one of the first sci-fi shows that was targeted towards adults - even "The Making of Star Trek" book mentions that. The fact that TOS was targeted towards an older audience was one of the things that made it stand apart.

I think you'll find that at the time in the 1960's, Star Trek was marketed to a younger audience, say under 20.

That was Lost in Space.

LOL, yes I'll give you that.

You also have to remember that the first promos for the show billed it as "the first adult space adventure."
