I have a question, people say the battery life is too short. In terms of your experience how is the battery holding up?

Google has released a few performance enhancing updates since the G1's release. Since the last update, battery life has not been a problem for me. I probably talk on the phone for a combined hour or 2 every day, send a combined 50-75 text messages, use WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, and sometimes GPS each for different amounts of time every day, and the battery usually makes it through the whole day on a single charge. The battery isn't as strong as other phones but it gets the job done

Yeah, The cupcake update is an upgrade to the operating system so it won't ever go anywhere. In fact, in October, your G1 may even have it installed right out of the box. But when system upgrades are rolled out, they become the new standard so no matter when you get your G1, whether its in 4 months or 4 years, you will always have the most recently released build.

dont get the g1 in october...cause t mobile going is going to come out with like 3 new phones in like 2 months one is call the mytouch 3g and the new dash( which is already out and they are comming out with one that like the wing but it running android i think its called like the touch pro or something

The mytouch (aka HTC Magic) is coming out in October but thats the only Android phone coming out this year from T-Mobile. I wouldn't recommend the new dash tho, it runs Windows Mobile 6.1, Android is a better, more fun, more stable, more customizable operating system. The touch pro is a Windows Mobile Device, Once again, I wouldn't recommend it. And unlike the G1, the MyTouch doesn't have a physical keyboard, just a soft keyboard.

Yeah, its the Zagg invisible shield. I recommend it to EVERYBODY! It protects from pretty much everything and I like the natural look of my G1. You know, without cases or skins or anything like that

go to your settings, 'about phone', 'firmware version'... if you don't version 1.5, you won't be able to use that widget until you get the update.

The JF Mod is a lot more stable and smoother. Auto rotate works on everything except the home screen and you get multi touch as well as the whole being able to save apps to sd which is great cuz i have 120 apps and i still have virtually no memory used on my computer

The update DID take away root access on mine. And I don't know if having JF 1.43 ADP 1 is what you need. I didn't do anything special, I just received a notification telling me the update was available.

I don't know for sure but the T-Mo rep I talked to said it WILL be out this month. Normally I would take anything customer care tells me with a bag of salt. But this wasn't a Customer Care representative I talked to.

yeah, if you have the JF rom, your phone should already be rooted. but I got this OTA update because my phone has the Dev rom which makes it appear to be a dev phone to the T-Mo network.

Since you're on the Dev rom, you just got the Dev update. So anyone expecting to see what's on the Tmo 1.5 rom, too bad. Apollo, just to be sure, from the About Phone screen, post the Model number, Kernel Version, and Build number. Like that your Model number doesn't say 'T-Mobile G1'.

Thanks man but we already figured out that it's the Dev OTA update. And it leaves me a bit optimistic because while i have a retail G1 with a custom dev rom enabling me to get the dev update, I'm optimistic that the retail update is hot on its heels. And when THAT gets here, hopefully its got a couple more features. And when JF updates to accomodate the retail 1.5 update, i'll get that one again.

The websites are a little bit faster thanks to the update to webkit and contrary to what i said earlier. You CAN enable the virtual keyboard in landscape view. i must not have hit the text box correctly when i tried it earlier but yes, you CAN bring up the VK in landscape.

how about the quality of pictures taken in cam ? most people (including me) complain that the pictures are blue-ish even in the mid of a sunny day which is annoying and even worse than iphone 2 megapixel camera. has the "white balance" been enhanced or something ? and what about the "fade out" effect while playing some music and getting an incoming call, has it been implemented ?

Good question on the music fade, i'll test that out later today. the still cam and video cam images phone are kinda yellow indoors, and yes it is a bit blue outside as well. there are no options to change white balance, everything is automatic. However, in the right light, it looks good, but there is no option to manually adjust

One thing you missed, that was clearly in the video, is the option to select emails individually. See those little check boxes on the left side. Also, you can search for a word within the browser page like you do on the desktop browser

Since your running JF ADP1, you would have updated with the Dev version of the update right? so far, Tmo USA has not confirmed any ota update

I don't know if the fact that I'm running the Dev ROM makes a difference, it just might. But this does confirm that T-Mo is pushing OTA updates.

The only phones that have gotten any OTA are the dev phones. Since your "model" of then phone says Andoid Dev Phone 1, i would assume that it showed up as a dev phone. Therefore, they pushed the dev update to you.

I've got the Zagg invisible Shield. I hate free advertising but I recommend this thing to EVERYONE. it protects against everything except bombs. But I'm glad I could do it, I might do another one, later, better quality.

I recomend you get the PhantonSkinz G1 cover its better than the Invisible shield because the corners dont peel. You get two with the package aswell.
