  • duncan trussell!!!!!

  • Mr.Simon Kirke (drummer), IS one of THE MOST COOLEST, solid, backbone, workhorse, member of any of rocks rhythm sections.

  • kossoff is a god!!!! is that a gold top les paul he is playing???

  • 10 dislikes??? These are probably the same people who think that Nickleback and Daughtry are real rock... Step aside, Free is lecturing and class is in session yung-uns!!!!

  • We played this tonight,...twas good,...but you cant beat the original and best,...brilliant.

  • great solo

    my best band ever !

  • yes , Paul Rogers one of the best voices ever. Paul Kossoff an inspiration. The whole band probably the main inspiration I keep on playing. This music will last a long long time.

  • Paul Rodgers and Paul Kossoff! I does not get any better than that! RIP Paul Kossoff. (Your talent is missed!)

  • Well, Happy frickin' New Year, Free fans. We can rejoice that we still have these KILLER vids to view. They put so much before and since to shame IMHO. And so sparse in the sound yet. Go figure.

  • Paul Rodgers sings with so much soul.RIP Paul Kossoff.

  • Paul rogers has one of the best voices this world has ever heard and free has been one of my main inspirations in making music.

Thank you guys for being so awesome.

  • Les Paul tone at it's best

  • Amazing performance and what an excellent piece of writing as well.

  • Paul Rodgers defined my musical tastes way back in 1970. He's my all-time favorite vocalist - ever! But, why RIP? He's still with us.

  • @dmwpot Paul Rodgers is still alive, however Paul Kossof is dead.

  • @tommat0 Who the hell is Paul Kossof?

  • @tommat0 Who the hell is Paul Kossof?

  • @dmwpot Kossoff* You know damn well who I meant :D thank you for the correction sir!

  • and if you genuinely didnt know who he was hes the bloke on guitar.

  • @tommat0 Sorry, I didn't know the other ones names. Know all the Monkees, tho. :)

  • @dmwpot hey hey weare the monkeys.

  • @tommat0 Sorry, thought I was missing something.

  • @dmwpot he's brilliant! If you dig early 'Rodgers, check out our tune "ALCOHOL", it's a total head nod to early FREE.

  • @TheGypsyBangles It was good, I commented. Sounds like a cross between the Doors and Richie Blackmoor.

  • AMAZING version:

    watch?v=f2y2Kly5dCI

    Listen!

  • Зашибись!

  • Bad ass bass!

  • Very nice to see a studio version of a great song by a great group instead of some moron with a hand held that has poor sound capture at a love show and all the ambient noise!

  • sickness paul and paul... sick

  • sickness

  • paul had some les pauls right? he loved those guitars by the look of it...

  • @bluesguitardude dude who doeant like les pauls,,,,duh

  • whether hes playing Orange or Marshall, Kossoff always sounded like Kossoff

  • Very nice version , but the best version is from The Answer !

  • @rockmaster09 dumbing down the guitar doesn't make a better version though at least they aren't butchering it like most covers do these days.

  • WOW!!

What an absolutely killer version of this tune! Kossoff totally underated. Check out @ 1:36 right before Kossoff's solo, he reaches down and cranks up his Les Paul and proceeds to fucking tear it up!!

  • man that transition back from the solo holy shit was that fucking intensely tight or what

  • Fucking Ripping!

  • How the hell could anyone dislike this. A true band at the height of their powers. Like you come here thinking what? to press dislike?! Koss, totally in his element, so good to see him looking so young and healthy. Amazing!!

  • @cottageorgan The dislikes are obviously people without ears. This is bad assery at its finest. This band shat out more soul than any of todays artists could even imagine possessing.

  • Cool song--lyrics, accompanyment. Best version on YT. Absolutely dig the economical underplay from Kossoff, Frazer and Kirk. And you can mention Rogers in the same breath as Plant, Daltry, Bruce and Morrison. Right up there with the other hot sounds of the time. Don't loose this moment in time. Wow! Guitar, bass & drums. Live yet.

  • heavy soul.

  • i always thought this was the BBC session version, but it doesnt sound as good (as no other version really does) what is this version and was it on a release?

  • Anybody know what Orange Amp Paul was using?

  • @bluecheer13 An old one. With great tubes and great speakers. One that you would definitely have to build and could not buy today.

  • I remember the first time I heard this, at a friend's house in York. It wasn't so much revelatory (I was already a fan) as an instant, "I must buy this album." moment. So I did.

  • @ahorwood Me too...

  • I remember the first time I heard this, at a friend's house in York. It wasn't so much revelatory (I was already a fan) as an instant, I must buy this album.

  • great music

  • so simple yet soooo bad ass

  • FREE WHERE, AND STILL ARE THE MOST TALENTED BAND TO COME OUT OF

THE UK EVER. I HAVE FOLLOWED THERE PROGRESS FROM THERE EARLY DAYS

I FIND IT STRANGE THAT THEY ARE BEING REALISED FOR THAT NOW . BUT IN YEARS TO COME WILL HAVE THE TRUE RECOGNITION, THEY SO RICHLY DESERVE

  • rocks most powerful sound peroid

  • RIP PAUL KOSSOFF

  • That is a blood-curdling solo

  • Man that solo's got SOUL. RIP Paul Kossoff.

  • Holy Shit that Les Paul's nearly as big as Koss,..small man with a big sound,....wish he was here. Massive respect.

  • where are his teeth?

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome! Paul Rodgers & Paul Kossoff!!!

  • They don't make true rockers like this any more!

  • From listening to Kossoff you can tell where Angus Young of ACDC got his vibrato and tone from.

  • A young British blues band that had soul and could rock with the best.

  • 1:39 for the finest vibrato you will probably ever hear.

  • Koss got the goods. Never shred. All and everything for the song. always.

  • awesome sound quality !

  • 8 Motherf***** are brain dead...

  • you gotta hear the version of this with Vandenberg and Rogers. It rocks!!!

  • R.I.P Paul Kossoff !!!

  • Just gotta love Koss--he always played straight from the heart.

  • i´m in love

  • I've never heard this live version! LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • 7 people have no musical taste.

  • if we had to ship some rock material to space for ET's to discover, then a CD of Free's stuff is enough....rock in its purest form....

  • hella cool

  • 7 dislikes 7 losers

  • This > All other versions of the song. Studio, Paul Rogers on his own, Paul Rogers with anybody Else (Queen *cough*, lol, sorry Brian May) Bad co.

This kicks all other versions between the legs. HARD. and fucks off to smoke some dope and shag somebody's daughter, probably the one they refer to in the song....

I'm sorry but it does, end of story.

    RIP Paul Kossoff

  • @asm1 Oh yes baby

  • @asm1 Agreed. But you try trading off licks with Rodgers, it'll drive you to drankin'

  • Very cool to hear this song again!! Oranges anyone? :P

  • 2:10 ORGASMIC

  • Paul Kossoff forever.

  • to my Lost one....and to my MARZTOWN friends.!!!

  • Excellentissime !!!!!!

  • Awsome song,See our bands version on my channel

  • Im lovin how simon plays drums and killer song

  • If you listen to Free, I mean really, really listen to them, they deserved to be as big as LZ, because the songs are fat.

  • Ive heared some super talented guitarists over the past 30 years but never have i heared so much emotion and feeling as within some of Kossoff's guitar work,....goddam shame thats all i can say.

  • HOLY FUCK that guitar solo send shivers up my spain!!!!!

  • Gary Rossington mentions that Paul Kossoff was a major influence on his guitar playing in a Guitar Player Mag interview... // I can definitely hear it when Lynyrd Skynyrd plays. Paul Kossoff - 9/14/50 - 3/19/76 RIP

  • and, as for live playing, page & plant always sucked. they certainly didn't have the polish of free live. but what they DID have, & in major spades, was MUCH better material, & not just the kind to keep rock n rollers happy head bangin', but the visionary kind that took chances with influences & styles of music. a comparison on that front is pointless & stoo-pit, because we're talkin' apples & oranges here. the best music is made for listening, & if we're lucky, for expanding what's possible..

  • @badmuddy iow's for listening, NOT competing...

  • for my $, leslie west had a MUCH better vibrato, & a larger influence on future players. i always liked free, but pk's vibrato's a bit too white for my tastes, too fast, & a precursor to the strangle the chicken vibrato of future metal players. but he did inherit clapton's ability to construct a solo, where every note had the larger purpose of creating a total where you wouldn't want to change a thing. i loved his chordal work, too, even if it was simple. & he never overplayed; that's enoof 4 me

  • @badmuddy Leslie had the whiter "vibrato".He's a new yorker for christs sake.Paul Kossoff was the king and devoted his life to that sound.I do agree with you on Paul's chording. But in many of his recordings there was nothing "simple" about it.Hell of alot more complex than Clapton.

  • @70goldtop clapton didn't really need to be complex chordally because jack handled that aspect, but either way, there's nothing at all complex about pk's playing. not that there needed to be. & leslie's vibrato was so far off from sounding "white," seriously. it had a LOT more in common with albert king's more relaxed vibrato than pk's. period...

  • @badmuddy You need to listen to other Free songs besides Fire And Water if you think Kossoff's chording was "simple".The entire Highway album for example.Kossoff's vibrato was psychotic sounding and that's why I love it.It sounds like no one else's.

  • @70goldtop ya know, this is a matter of diff perspectives. "complex chording" to me is phil miller from hatfield & the north, fred frith from henry cow, & mclaughlin/mahavishnu, NOT pk & free...

  • Paul Kossof was the best blues guitarist of the day, bar none. Paul Rogers still has an excellent voice. Saw him perform with Queen and was very impressed how a guy of his age can still rock.

  • the best blues rock band ever!

  • rock encapsulated,,rock bands are like this,,,,,

  • i practise everyday 5 hours vibrato

  • Does not get any better than this.

  • i will only do Songs like Free with my band, i promise !!!

  • nice post even if @hawick21 is a..Oh, nevermind.

  • free kicked ass

  • Great song even if Paul Rogers a dick.

  • @hawick21 What would make you say that?

  • @hawick21 opened for him & chilled with the man several times across the border in canada where he resides......I will state for the record that I do not know Paul Rodgers to be anything of the kind.

A lesson to you my friend.Just based on Paul's contributions to music in one hour in a single day deserves respect, let alone what he has done in his career as an entertainer.

Sure you are entitled to your own opinion & I truly respect that, & you.But in all fairness...you could have restrained

  • very very nice this is excellent paul rogers is like klaus schulze fantastic ******555555

  • You can Clearly See its live and they do sound like bass chords during the solo and Simon Kirke is clearly not miming and would proberly be quite difficult to hear this so called backing track which im guessing is proberly the orginal song which is only 3:47 seconds when this video is clearly longer then that Over someone bashing away at those drums orr they could be doing wht a band does and follows the drummer ?

  • 5 people haven't drank their Tiger Blood yet.

  • 5 people don't have what it takes to make anyones heart break.

  • This might be the coolest damn thing that I have ever seen.

  • classic forgotton song.....

  • these guys rock

  • Live??? Not quite... There's another guitar in the mix... still cool though

  • @RexCars1 The other "guitar" in the mix you're referring to is the bass playing chords. There's only one guitar.

  • @70goldtop Listen again.. During the guitar solo.. Then tell me if you don't hear a rhythm guitar.. ( if not you might want to listen one more time ).. And also.. Watch the drummer for the cymbal crashes.. Then you will see they are playing to track.. I love this band also.. They were one of the best in there day..

  • @RexCars1 i think you've got your wires crossed or something because this is clearly live.

"There's another guitar in the mix"- yes its called the bass guitar you dumb fuck! and its being played by the bass player

but anyway what a band! my dad says they were known as the best live band in england around '70 - '71 and u can see why

  • @Leonmorgan LOL.!!!! I Love it... I'm the " Dumb Fuck " because I can hear the " Second Electric Guitar " and you can't.... It's very simple ( my new best friend ) lol.. It's called " Playing to track ".. Bands do it all the time... especially back then... Now use your ears here and listen.. You will hear during the guitar solo. There is another electric guitar.. So.. That means.. 4 instruments... and 3 people on stage... Hmmmmmm So.. give it another listen. Good luck

  • @RexCars1 there is an extra six string on the totp all right now performance as well. very subtle

  • I saw a busker singing this to his own acoustic in a Budapest metro station last week. He was great, but not as great as this. What a power trio, what a voice.

  • awesome!!!

  • So sad that drugs bring him down. He was the best. R. I. P. Koss. We never forget you.

  • Awesome Song, and Koss on Guitar is just outstanding ! Peace & Love !

  • Damn good vibrato in Paul Kossof's fingers...one of best ever...

  • Sparse, controlled and intense - Free at their best !

  • I saw them live twice and this is THE song that defines what they were all about.

  • What it could have been...They should have gone stratospheric.

  • This chit is the BOMB !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Free rule!!!!------------------Jimbo

  • R*I*G*H*T*E*O*U*S

  • daaaamn!!!!! so much rawer and slower than the album version. better for me!! and the orange amps are amazing!

  • @MyCharlie1990 Yes me too, this > All other versions, sorry PR, but it does, and that includes Bad Co, PR solo and even Free (post Koss) and especially the abberation that was Queen + PR. (and I love Queen too but that just blows, or at least any version I have seen on Youtube does anyway.)

Dont get me wrong I think PR is great but to paraphrase MC hammer "he can't touch this" and hasn't been able to for a VERY long time.

  • daaaamn!!!!! so much rawer and slower than the album version. better for me!!

  • Tremenda canción!!!! Cuanto me gusta :)

  • Knowing Kossoff's sad spiral, its nice to see him smiling at :09

  • Paul Kossoff - up in the top 5 all time greats - Clapton, BB King, Peter Green, Kossoff & leave the last name - for u to decide - saw Free live twice - first gig was outstanding - 2nd gig - Paul - was twatted - he died 3 months later damn.

  • 1 vibrato note from Paul has more feeling than any 2 million note a second players out now. Paul's still one of the best! Thank You for posting Bro!

  • ...this music still gives me goosebumps even after 40 years...just the best

  • i was in high school and couldn't get enough led zepplin and free

  • AWSOME MAAAAAN. IM IN LOVE WITH THIS GUY BUT AM A BIT LATE LOL

  • 3 dislikes out of 126,326 views! That sort of percentage has nothing to do with not liking this, more likely p*ssed fingers aiming inaccurately!

  • this is bad ass....

  • free is cool! :D

  • orange!

  • They didn't call Paul Rodgers the "best moan in the business" for nothing. Christ, that man's voice still does erotic things to me.

  • I Just Learnt this Song on Guitar. Never Really was Intrested in Free until my dad picked me up from school when I was 8 And Free Live was on. Now at 17 I never tier of this song! Long Live Rock n Roll!

  • Long live Les Pauls!!!!!

  • @nickslespaul . I think it was Gary moore who said " You only need two guitars A Les paul and a Strat. Im a bassist and for me its a Jazz bass and a Gibson EB3

  • so good i could cry...ridiculously wonderful rock n roll!!

  • Why the fuck would anyone dislike this!!? BEST SONG EVER!

  • @dkkat92 Those would be the some who belong to the IGNORAMUS REX class of humans. Right on, Why the fuck would anyone dislike a song who has influenced almost all the legendary Bands and musicians. All hail Paul Rogers, All hail FREE!!!

  • @dkkat92

    oh c´mon - it´s boring

  • @dkkat92 And why the fuck would anybody think that this is 'the best song ever'? One of the most ridiculous claims I've ever heard. And that's NOT hyperbole.

  • @dkkat92 Agree with you, I'm practicing those guitar chords on my guitar, We all have to bring that Blues Rock back.

  • @dkkat92

By far their own best song too, I think...
