Luigi383, the pizza short subject you're looking for is on the Sesame Street video player entitled "Ordering a Pizza". Can you please put it on youtube? Thanks. FYI, the guy delivering the pizza is my cousin Richard Salisbury. This was before he got bald. He still looks good today, though.
@Luigi383 I know the clip you're talking about. To find the clip, all you got to do is go to Sesame street video player and search "Ordering a Pizza" and ♪Tah Dah♪, you got the clip:)
My mom was making pizza last night and I randomly called out, "Pizza!" Then of course, it took me about 15 minutes to remember what exactly it was from. lol.
I love this music. I can remember looking at that pizza segment on Sesame street when I was a little kid. I can remember looking at it about 2 or maybe 3 times a long time ago. Ever since, I was think about that beautiful music throughout my life. Tonight, I was thinking to find it on YouTube and I did. It brings me a lot of nostalgic memories. Too bad the music did not have an Italian mandolin, but, maybe, I can try it on my own mandolin.
One thing I learned about making pizza: Yeast is the most important ingredient in the dough. You leave it out, you got yourself a tortilla. Tortilla pizzas can be great, but good luck trying to eat it without making a mess!
I just watched Throwdown with Bobby Flay on Food Network, and he competed against Lou Malnati in Chicago to create the best Deep Dish pizza. Bobby Flay had some roasted garlic and Italian Sausage in his pizza along with a little broccoli and rabe, in addition to the plum/pear tomato sauce and sliced and shredded cheeses. Unfortunately, those were not enough to beat Lou.
Musicians: Joe Raposo - piano, Bob Cranshaw -bass guitar, Danny Epstein - drums and glockenspiel, Jimmy Mitchell - banjo, and unknown on clarinet. Except for the woodwind, I can vouch all musicians named above were the personnel who performed this. Hope this helps.
I just spoke to Mr. Cranshaw, and he says you're correct: Keith Zaharia was SS's session bassoonist, and doubled on other reeds, "but didn't stay long". Wally Kane, who can play all woodwinds, replaced Zaharia in Joe's session band and stayed his session reed player. As a piece of trivia, Bob says Zaharia was the bassoon on the earliest Snuffalupagus cues on the show. So you are correct, sir! And now we know all the dudes who played this great track :D
1. I thought the lamps on the ceilings 1:24 were dough that got stuck in mid-air when I was little.
2. Throwing the pizza up in the air would make those awesome air bubbles that you'd get in the neighborhood pizzerias where I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. Awesome memories.
I remember this so vividly. Growing up in an Italian neighbourhood, we used to always say the the pizza guy made the pizza like on Sesame Street. You can always twll a good pizzeria when you see the guy makingit that way. ranting throwing it up in the air is optional. Something you will not find at Dominoe's!
Does any have the other pizza film when the pizza was delivered to kids? Oh, I forgot to mention to you When i see a pizza man I go crazy for that film. The kids were cute in tis one. What year was this segment made?
I believe I saw this for the first time in 1974. If I remember correctly I was at home watching Sesame Street everyday at 9:00 a.m. and it being one of the films that aired a year before I started preschool.
There was a place when I was little where you could go and watch the bakers through a big window flinging the pizza dough up in the air like that. Being a weird picky eater as a kid, I didn't like pizza, but if we ate at THAT place, I scarfed it down. There was something magic in watching them fling food, most likely because it reminded me of this S-Street clip.
You haven't had a pizza until you've actually eaten one at a cafe in Italy. Every city, they taste slightly different, but they are all incredible! They make American pizza taste like crap.
Does anyone remember the pizza man who wore white pants and a jacket with a red and white striped shirt who always fell down the stairs with his pizza. What PBS show was that? I would love to see that clip again...
i can't believe they were still playing clips this great in 87. i am partial to SS prior to 1990 but it got less and less so closer to the end of the decade.
Oh God this sent me into wanting-pizza-convulsions every time I saw it as a kid! Maybe I shouldn't watch this now... there's a DiGiorno in the freezer...
I know of a restaurant in NYC that uses various small slices of mozzarella cheese for their pizza. It's Mario Batali's restaurant OTTO in, like, the East Village or something.
Ah, another great Sesame Street clip I remember from childhood. I didn't remember them using actual SLICES of cheese though. O_O I need to make a pizza with that instead of shredded cheese sometime...
@wattamack4 Nope, it's mozzarella. In New Haven style pizza they often have it grated into squares like that when it goes on the pizza. The crust looks halfway in between a New York and New Haven style pizza though... New Haven style is usually a bit more burned than that.
Listening to that music that they played at the start of this thing--I was expecting Don Vito Coerleone and his sons Michael and Fredo to walk in at any moment.
Mama mia, I remember this a-well! The slow motion when tossing the dough and the fast motion when the toppings are added, the pizza is cooked and ready to be served, is sure to captivate anyone who loves pizza.
Including myself. I remember seeing this too. I think this boosted my love for pizza, only I didn't know it at the time. Grazie for uploading this! Molto bene!
