  • Health departments only require gloves if food isn't going to be cooked. Generally. Good to hear that this pizza place is still going!

  • This was filmed before the health department required gloves in all food prep.

  • Not true. Only necessary to cover a bandaid, wound, long nails, jewelry, etc. Proud to say the restaurant in this video still makes pizzas the traditional way.

  • ah..hand-tossed..the RIGHT way to make pizza..

  • The Ingalls Pizzeria. See Melissa Gilbert is Italian and Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush are Italian.

  • Are these pizza guys still alive or dead ?

  • @gottaloveaz Yes. The young gentleman in the video is my dad! And I happy my son will get to see this video.

  • Pizza Hut is the Best "CHAIN" but rthe best Pizza places I like are local mom and pop pizzerias you find in Northeastern Cities like NYC, Philly, Boston, Providence, Baltimore, DC etcetera

  • At 0:33 There's the Monster on the Spot. ''We interrupt this film to bring you a Monster on the Spot and now here's your Monster on the Spot reporter Telly Monster''.

  • That's where Monster on the Spot interrupts this film. It's a black screen that says ''Monster on the Spot'' and a voice thats says ''We interrupt this film to bring you a Monster on the Spot and now here's you Monster on the Spot reporter Telly Monmster''.

  • Ahh-hhh-hh-hh...

My absolute number one can't be topped food int he universe!

I'm a guy who really loves his Pizza...

Especially Dominoes Pepperoni Feast with a coke on the side and cheesy bread...

    Ohh... I gotta stop now!

  • This makes me turn off lights and I mean darken the house and show this. 21 January 1980 this came on SS. Little House on the Prairie came on with ''Darkness is my Friend''.

  • Luigi383, the pizza short subject you're looking for is on the Sesame Street video player entitled "Ordering a Pizza". Can you please put it on youtube? Thanks. FYI, the guy delivering the pizza is my cousin Richard Salisbury. This was before he got bald. He still looks good today, though.

  • That always made me hungry!

  • PIZZZZZZAAAAAAAA! LOL

    No kidding!

  • thnk u.

  • Ok how many agree that they'd like to pull the pizza from the tv screen if that was possible? The pizza looks great!

  • something about the way they yell "pizza" creeps me out a bit.

  • Mary0373 I agree. My son saw the fast motion delivery version and got feaked out when the kids yell "PIZZA!"

  • i want mine with just cheese, extrra cheese and garlic, and add some red hot pepper too!

  • That looks delicious. And yes I totally remember it. "PIZZA!!!"

  • they guy that was streching the dough used to work at the pizzeria that i work at now which is pasquales pizzeria in san francisco

  • This was a classic... Hey mstatz can you find the pizza that was delivered in stop motion I haven't seen that one since I was little.

  • @Luigi383 I know the clip you're talking about. To find the clip, all you got to do is go to Sesame street video player and search "Ordering a Pizza" and ♪Tah Dah♪, you got the clip:)

  • I found the dough to be mesmerizing

  • My mom was making pizza last night and I randomly called out, "Pizza!" Then of course, it took me about 15 minutes to remember what exactly it was from. lol.

I wanted to see it, and there it is.

    God bless YouTube.

  • @foxxyloxx Wow! Don't you just love those random moments that you recall from childhood?

  • I wonder if that was filmed many years ago in Little Italy of New York City that appeared on Sesame Street.

  • I love this music. I can remember looking at that pizza segment on Sesame street when I was a little kid. I can remember looking at it about 2 or maybe 3 times a long time ago. Ever since, I was think about that beautiful music throughout my life. Tonight, I was thinking to find it on YouTube and I did. It brings me a lot of nostalgic memories. Too bad the music did not have an Italian mandolin, but, maybe, I can try it on my own mandolin.

  • One thing I learned about making pizza: Yeast is the most important ingredient in the dough. You leave it out, you got yourself a tortilla. Tortilla pizzas can be great, but good luck trying to eat it without making a mess!

  • crunchy! lol

  • I had pizza tonight and well i had to watch this clip

  • I just watched Throwdown with Bobby Flay on Food Network, and he competed against Lou Malnati in Chicago to create the best Deep Dish pizza. Bobby Flay had some roasted garlic and Italian Sausage in his pizza along with a little broccoli and rabe, in addition to the plum/pear tomato sauce and sliced and shredded cheeses. Unfortunately, those were not enough to beat Lou.

  • What instruments are used for the Italian music in this video?

  • Can't say for sure, but starting the vid now and will name them as I hear them: [starting video now]

Instrumentation: clarinet, glockenspiel, banjo (overdubbed twice), drums, piano, bass.

Musicians: Joe Raposo - piano, Bob Cranshaw -bass guitar, Danny Epstein - drums and glockenspiel, Jimmy Mitchell - banjo, and unknown on clarinet. Except for the woodwind, I can vouch all musicians named above were the personnel who performed this. Hope this helps.

  • Thank you!

  • It was overdubbed twice? When? The slow 3/4 part or the lively 6/8 section?

  • Now that I'm not sure of. I can find out. I'll PM you the details

  • Would the person on clarinet by any chance be Wally Kane?

  • I just spoke to Mr. Cranshaw, and he says you're correct: Keith Zaharia was SS's session bassoonist, and doubled on other reeds, "but didn't stay long". Wally Kane, who can play all woodwinds, replaced Zaharia in Joe's session band and stayed his session reed player. As a piece of trivia, Bob says Zaharia was the bassoon on the earliest Snuffalupagus cues on the show. So you are correct, sir! And now we know all the dudes who played this great track :D

  • I wonder if there ARE pizza places where the dough is NOT tossed..would that still make a good pizza anyway?

  • If you ever visit Wooster, Ohio, there is a pizzeria there that is family-owned called Coccia House. They have a Pizza that is out of this World!

  • Yes they do, every Wednesday night,

    and on Sundays for lunch.

  • 1. I thought the lamps on the ceilings 1:24 were dough that got stuck in mid-air when I was little.

    2. Throwing the pizza up in the air would make those awesome air bubbles that you'd get in the neighborhood pizzerias where I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. Awesome memories.

  • I had pizza for dinner tonight.

  • MMMM pizza.

  • This makes me think of ordering a pizza off the buffet at PIZZA HUT!

  • Do they even do that anymore? The only pizza chains that have buffets nowadays are Cici's and Mr. Gatti's.

  • Monfreddi's pizzeria.

  • I remember this so vividly. Growing up in an Italian neighbourhood, we used to always say the the pizza guy made the pizza like on Sesame Street. You can always twll a good pizzeria when you see the guy makingit that way. ranting throwing it up in the air is optional. Something you will not find at Dominoe's!

  • Does any have the other pizza film when the pizza was delivered to kids? Oh, I forgot to mention to you When i see a pizza man I go crazy for that film. The kids were cute in tis one. What year was this segment made?

  • i remember, after i watched this when i was a kid, i would try to do it w/ a towel or blanket... XD kids are so STUPID!

  • lol! cute

  • Now I want Little Ceasar's, or Pizza Hut.

    Unfortanetly, Ceasars does not deliver...

  • Yeah, I think only a few in Detroit do. I live about 1/2 a mile from the original Little Caesers in Garden City MI, it is a rare one that delivers.

  • AWESOME. Another one I loved as a little one. That must have been shot in some authetic pizzaria in Little Italy, NY!

  • I love pizza!

  • It's not as often anymore that you see pizza being tossed up in the air to get it round and flat.

  • Who the heck puts processed cheese on a pizza? That guy looks like he's putting Kraft slices on that pizza.

  • How about the places that do Deep Dish? I've heard that Deep Dish pizza is always made with both sliced AND shredded cheese.

  • I remeber that one

  • m statz, Is this really from 1974 ?

  • I believe I saw this for the first time in 1974. If I remember correctly I was at home watching Sesame Street everyday at 9:00 a.m. and it being one of the films that aired a year before I started preschool.

  • Well mstatz, Somewhere in my mind this from 1974. It's called Monfreddi's Pizzeria in Manhattan.

  • I've liked this one. Does anyone have the "Sugar Beat" video?

  • IF YOU WANT PIZZA ORDER BARROS!

  • Straw Hat pizza didn't do this.

  • How do you know this is from 1973 ?

  • pie cut pizza is the best so do not get square!

  • There was a place when I was little where you could go and watch the bakers through a big window flinging the pizza dough up in the air like that. Being a weird picky eater as a kid, I didn't like pizza, but if we ate at THAT place, I scarfed it down. There was something magic in watching them fling food, most likely because it reminded me of this S-Street clip.

  • You haven't had a pizza until you've actually eaten one at a cafe in Italy. Every city, they taste slightly different, but they are all incredible! They make American pizza taste like crap.

  • I beleive ya on that one, in fact thats the first thing i am gonna do is get a pizza in Naples, when ever i go

  • Hey, I never thought I'd ever get to go to Italy, and then one day I was there. If you really want to go, it will happen.

  • thick triangular pizza RULES!

  • I have to agree!

  • IF YOU WANT PIZZA ORDER PAPA JOHNS!

  • mmm deep dish pizza with the works!

  • the pizza theater.

  • Is there a ''Monster on the Spot'' clip anywhere?

Because it would interrupt a cartoon or film.

  • Pizza Hut makes excellent Pizza they're(especially the Chesey Bites which no longer exist).

  • Pizza Hut is actually my favorite pizza place!

  • I perfer Papa John's. And to be even weird...I like to put potato chips on my pizza!

  • This was so haunting that it brings me more memories from my childhood.

  • They were definitely still showing this up to the mid-90's. I know that, because I remember seeing this when I was little.

  • I know it's probably Electric Company.

  • Does anyone remember the pizza man who wore white pants and a jacket with a red and white striped shirt who always fell down the stairs with his pizza. What PBS show was that? I would love to see that clip again...

  • Yes it is Italian background music. If no one's mistaken this could be actually a 1973 pizza film.

  • A "pizza" classic film, hand-tossed, er-picked, specifically for us Classic Sesame Street fans:-).

  • This has to be one of those great old NYC pizzerias, right? "Eh, fahgettaboutiiiiit!"

  • that was pretty weird tossing the dough high.

  • this was still going in the late 80's

  • I recorded this one in 1986 or early 1987.

  • i can't believe they were still playing clips this great in 87. i am partial to SS prior to 1990 but it got less and less so closer to the end of the decade.

  • Is 1987 the original air date of this clip? I can't remember.

  • Oh God this sent me into wanting-pizza-convulsions every time I saw it as a kid! Maybe I shouldn't watch this now... there's a DiGiorno in the freezer...

  • Yep this is very old.

  • if this is old it maybe from 1975.

  • WOW ! this is old

  • The only variety that I know of that actually uses sliced cheese (in addition to the shredded cheese) is the Chicago Deep-Dish variety.

  • I know of a restaurant in NYC that uses various small slices of mozzarella cheese for their pizza. It's Mario Batali's restaurant OTTO in, like, the East Village or something.

  • Ah, another great Sesame Street clip I remember from childhood. I didn't remember them using actual SLICES of cheese though. O_O I need to make a pizza with that instead of shredded cheese sometime...

  • Is that American Cheese they're using?

  • It looks like it.

  • I think it is sliced mozzarella

  • @wattamack4 Nope, it's mozzarella. In New Haven style pizza they often have it grated into squares like that when it goes on the pizza. The crust looks halfway in between a New York and New Haven style pizza though... New Haven style is usually a bit more burned than that.

  • PIZZA RULES!!! I could make one Iron Chef style if need be.

  • Now why didn't Fat Blue just go to this place instead of "Pizzeria Dos"?;)

  • Listening to that music that they played at the start of this thing--I was expecting Don Vito Coerleone and his sons Michael and Fredo to walk in at any moment.

  • Mama mia, I remember this a-well! The slow motion when tossing the dough and the fast motion when the toppings are added, the pizza is cooked and ready to be served, is sure to captivate anyone who loves pizza.

  • Including myself. I remember seeing this too. I think this boosted my love for pizza, only I didn't know it at the time. Grazie for uploading this! Molto bene!

  • (Gasp) PIZZA!!!! That my #1 Favorite Food. I'm Glad you post the pizza film from Sesame Street I remember This.

  • pizza the movie

  • pizza the movie?

  • The music sounds more greek than Italian.

  • That's a Hellenic thing to say.

  • What exactly went on that pizza? Let's see:

Sauce, large pieces of cheese, pepperoni, sausage, shredded cheese and mushrooms. The latter, I don't care for.

  • Hey that's one pizza I sure as heck would take. :-)

  • Then, go ahead. Be my guest.

  • I hope he washed his hands first! Nice, memorable clip. I'm sure hand-tossing the dough is still done in Italy.

  • Hell it's still done at Domino's the last I checked.

  • Bertucci's, too.

  • How did he throw that dough in the air and spin it without tearing it? I couldn't do that.

  • I never saw this segment on sesame street but i like this alot

  • i got o my neighborhood pizzerias a lot

  • A nice pizza nostalgia.

  • That so cool for pizza.

  • Yes thank you so much for posting this! This really brings back fond memories of being a carefree kid again.

  • another classic. mmmmmmm makes me hungry for pizza. loved how they slow motioned the dough being tossed up in the air.

  • I love Pizza it's my favorite food

  • Yeah! Dominoe's nothing! This make you want to eat an actual hand tossed pizza cooked in a brick oven. Of course, this was in New York. (Man I want to go to New York.)

I liked it best how it was first in slo-mo (catching the spin) before they spun up the rest of the production.

  • You rule, mstatz! c",)

  • ah nothing like new york style pizza, my favorite is sausage and peppers

  • nothing like new york pizza, love mine with sausage and peppers

  • To quote Rodney Dangerfield from "Caddyshack": "You know, for Italians, this is considered skilled labor!"

  • This clip always made me want to eat at Shakey's when I was little. There you could actually watch them make the pizza and they hand tossed it like on this clip. Good times.

  • Back when making a pizza was an artform. I never see anyone handtossing pizza anymore.

  • this fascinated me, this clip! I love it! :)

  • Wow, I'd forgotten about this one. I worked for a pizzeria a few years back that did hand-spin their dough. I was never nearly as good as that guy, though. =P

  • "Would you like this cut into four slices, or eight?"

"Better make it four. I don't think I can eat eight."

  • That's a good one!! (LOL) Did you make that up?

  • I can't take credit for it; much as I'd like to. It's from an old joke book. btw, this brings back memories of being a kid in Queens, NY; there were still pizzerias where you could stand outside and watch them make it like this. Thanks for posting it. :)

  • I found it wierd how he threw the dough up into the air. wonder if there are any bloopers of that that still exist?

  • That's the way they used to thin the dough. I'm sure it was done a lot more over 30 years ago, which is when this was filmed.

  • yeah i always thought that part was a little weird.

  • This video is tempting me to call Domino's as soon as my check comes in. Four stars!

  • My fiancee and I order pizza from Domino's every weekend!

  • this video is bellissimo!!!!

  • Great, been waiting for this one :-)

  • Me too. Thanks!
