  • 15 minute song.

    In other words.

    Oh fuck.

  • 5:59 he should scream like this more often!

  • I wonder what happens if you played this song backwards......

  • the only 15 minute song a person with ADHD can listen to

  • @JonCWmusic I hope thats a joke. I have ADHD and I listen to many songs longer than this such as The Revealing Science of God (22 mins), The Obsidian Eternity and Anguish (18 mins), The Mighty Masturbator (16 mins) and Catch 33 (47 mins)

  • @Zyborggian yes its just a joke man lol

  • I honestly don't think there's very many bands that are still writing music that are more original than Periphery. How swift and melodic - switched to technologically brutal - switches back again, seamlessly. With the ability to genre-change so much without sacrificing the edge that they've always provided, and writing such a variety of tunes, each flowing perfectly into the next. This song is part of what made the album so solid as a whole.

In five words or less: Periphery - Love that shit!

    \m/

  • @SirCambertHotJam Can i advise you to listen to 'Animals As leaders' they do the things you have described in your comment, yet have a more technical and jazzy edge to it making it sound quite incomperhensive on the first couple of listens, and there are no vocals. But do listen to it!

  • @LeapingDodo Oh I am already quite an avid fan of AAL. I personally prefer Periphery's music however.

  • They are touring with Loomis this spring. If they get him to play the solo live I will come all in my pants.

  • Every step recalled not evolved* :p

  • This song leaves me with no words every time I listen to it. Yeah its been one of my favorite songs for a long time and I have listened to it countless times. But still, every time I press play to this song it takes me to places in my head that I have never visited before. This song (to me) goes beyond a masterpiece. The balance between the heavy Djenty rhythm guitars, the high melodic guitars, the ambient guitars, the solid drum structure, the vocals+lyrics and leading bass is PERFECT. Tears:')

  • Jeff Loomis' guest solo in this is so awesome.

  • I was in the Dream Theater concert last night and these fellas were opening for DT. They played this as their final song, so I can safely say that this song just got me into this band.

  • So many errors in the lyrics but thanks for the post anyway!

  • AWESOME! Solo at 10:19 was done by Jeff Loomis!

  • 4:38 Enter Elliot Coleman of Tesseract!

  • 05:35 to 05:47 is truly amazing anyone got the lyrics for it?

  • @shucklesors All that will never see, follow the light?

  • if racecar is the same forwards and backwards... someone needs to reverse this song

  • I was just chilling to the song, when it stopped I was like; woah, 15 minutes? It felt like so much longer!

  • 4:38 Elliot Coleman :D Crazy solo with jeff loomis

  • Happy Anniversary Video!!!

  • I must have this album!

  • Misha is gay *troll face*

  • best song ever.

  • Wow this is awesome!!

  • Does anybody else think 5:57 sounds a little like Job For a Cowboy?

  • @thebinarybiscuit

Don't you dare try and and compare that waste of a band to the gods that create the epicness called Periphery.

  • @thebinarybiscuit Sounds like Casey to me.

  • @ARKAEA33 It IS Casey. Jake Bowen said that when They were recording the album, They just decided to use that take that Casey did. It makes Me wonder if Casey ever wrote His own lyrics to this song at some point, different to the ones in this version.

  • @ComfyNumb1989 You don't think I know that? I was being a smartass because the guy said that it sounded like Job For a Cowboy.

  • @ARKAEA33 Jesus, calm down! I was only trying to be of assistance!

  • @ComfyNumb1989 Don't use His name in vain goddammit!

  • I love elliot's voice at 4:40

  • the solo at 10:00 was just beautiful :,)

  • 15 freaking minutes of this, but it never gets old. I'm wasting whole days away by listening to this over and over again!

  • Is that Casey at 6:00?

  • @Anquished why yes it is

  • @Anquished It is indeed. :)

  • longest song ever..

  • @anntemortem LMAO you're kidding, right? Octavarium by Dream Theater is longer...that's just one of 100s that are 15+ minutes (I'm too lazy to think of more). And if you're complaining about the songs length (I don't know if you are, but IF you are), then don't just listen to a song and do nothing else. I do that, but I don't mind the length. If you don't enjoy listening to long songs, then do something else while listening. Don't just sit and think "when will this be over?"

    PERIPHERY RULES!!!!!

  • @SirCambertHotJam chill, money. catch 33 by meshuggah would probably qualify as the longest song, anyhow.

  • @SirCambertHotJam Stream of instrumentals by Dream Theater is an hour and a half long lol

  • @Carcerat That's not a song. It's a fanmade mash-up of all their instrumentals, from other songs.

  • @uiet1123 I know, but one mash up is still one song even when it's made from many other songs.

  • @Carcerat It wasn't put together by dream theater though, and they'd never acknowledge it as a song.

  • @anntemortem not even close bro haha

  • @anntemortem Transatlantic-The Whirlwind (77 minutes long...good shit)

  • @PASTAandMUSE thats just ridiculous

  • this soooonnnnnggg issss soooooooooo goooooooooooodddddd 8=======D~~~~~~~~~

  • Holy Shit! I saw periphery last night in Philly and they closed with this. It was epic live! i got some good stage dives in it. ;b

  • I know Jeff Loomis features in this song, but @ 3:30 it sounds a LOT like Andy Timmons O_o

  • I couldn't even fathom the amount of work you would have to go through to produce such a Mona Lisa.

  • Maybe this song is meant to be listened to in reverse... dum dum duuuuuum (dramatic reveeeeerb)

  • One person HATES palindromes.

  • @freeradicals dammit, i'm mad.

  • @hellonieman

“When love and skill are combined expect a masterpiece”.

  • Too long, didn't listen.

  • The Deer disliked this.

  • maybe i'm deaf, but i can't tell what part elliot coleman sings in this song. can someone tell me which part it is?

  • @Paradox1216 Elliot Coleman sings at 4:38. I didn't even know it was him until someone pointed out, but now it's obvious.

  • one person got hit by the Racecar

  • eargasm.

  • ONE person.. must of accidentally clicked the dislike button.

  • my life would be complete if they played racecar live here in dallas!(:

  • The section that starts at 03:32, reminds of walking down a city street alone in the rain... yeah.

  • Spencer Sotelo vs. Rody Walker

    FIGHT

  • this song transcends music itself

  • What's racecar backwards?

    yes, they're that awesome

  • @MrGitarrmongo lol its the same thing backwards

  • @MrGitarrmongo Holy shit, you/they just blew my fucking mind!

  • @MrGitarrmongo You are a genius! :D

  • @MrGitarrmongo That also works with Dammit I'm mad. =P

  • @DeathcoreSoftie U Totala Mad bro?

  • @MrGitarrmongo maybe now theyll turn right

  • racecar racrera racer racear racecarracecarracecarracecarracecar

  • I typed in racecar, and the first thing I saw was "racecar hit deer". That shows you how seriously f'd up this world is...

  • @DeathcoreSoftie thats not fucked up, thats fucking great!!! it would have been even better if it happened on a nascar track or something. watch all those dumb rednecks fight for their next weeks dinner splattered all over the hood of some rich, dumb rednecks car.

  • @deathcore1239 Ignorance is bliss...

  • @gir1258 i dont think that fits into the situation here. unless of course your using the word "ignorance" incorrectly, which almost EVERYBODY does.

  • @mfcfbro Try typing 'racecar' very quickly, you'll see what I mean ;)

  • I was so desperate to type 'racecar' into the search bar that, in my haste, I learned how to sweep pick. Thanks, Periphery.

  • @StarkDarkenStudios There is no "r" note. WTF man, wtf? haha

  • @StarkDarkenStudios That is VERY fucking clever. You are a genius! XD

  • I lust listened to this for 2 hours. 4 times with vocals, 4 times without...I think its time for a different song now...

  • DJENITALS!

  • djentitals.

  • go look up Pathogenic Lucidity

  • This song is such a Last Boss Fight song.

  • you all should enjoy the music instead of discussing this or that about it.

read the lyrics, they're beautiful, at least it aptly reflects how I'm feeling right now.

there's no room for arguing, the whole makes the music beautiful the way it is.

  • Who agrees with Me in the growling section starting at 5:48, Casey's guest vocals(5:57) utterly rape Spencer's?

Don't get Me wrong, I love both of them, but in My opinion, Casey's growls are far better!

  • @ComfyNumb1989 I didn't even realize that that was Casey. until you said it.

  • @ComfyNumb1989 yea but spencer has a wider range in singing

  • @nickRnun That's debatable. The highest note in "Icarus Lives!" is only a semitone lower than the one in "Frak the Gods", so I'd say He can hit all of Spencer's notes.

  • why did we all like darthray1292 comment all it says is (penis)? or am i just asking a dumb question?

  • @infectionxxxx are you a girl? if so, its a guy's thing. If not, well just think of it as an single word spout of astonishment. Being smart is awesome!

  • solo part blows my mind

  • did anyone else notice that part of the lyrics is missing in the description??

  • Am I the only one that bothered to notice how profound Periphery's lyrics are?! Their songs are life changing, they make me cry for no reason. It's beautiful.

  • first 3rd of this song is orgasmic

  • Omg, the opening of this is used on Scuzz! I've finally realised this!

  • 4:55 is that his highest note ever in the back ground vocals??

  • @nameless12345 a very high F

  • @nameless12345 and yes, probably the highest x)

  • @nameless12345 sounds like some fuck off high B flat to me =P so glad someone else noticed though xD

  • @KBagaz yeah it is dude.

  • I just can't get over how awesome this song is ... I keep listening to it, waiting for it to wear off. But no ... it just keeps getting better :)

  • 9:11 that is all

  • instrumental's better imo

  • 15 minutes - your having a laugh! :D

  • i forgot how amazing periphery is

  • I like the part where the guitar makes the djent sound.

  • Which part does Elliot Coleman sing at?

  • @dahudge14 IIIIII CANNNN HEAR YOUR VOICE AT NIGHT. amazing song.

  • How do they make a 15 min song continually interesting, it's just incredible.

  • @JoeeSux listen to Liquid Tension Experiment, Transatlantic or Dream Theater they can make a 40 minute song continually interesting

  • I love the variety in this song, it's like a journey. (:

  • @DrummersRock23 I agree!

  • This is THEIR music that THEY decided to CREATE. They didn't create some canned bullshit to meet what you guys consider "good composition" or "theme".

Go make some music yourselves and post it up rather than waste time criticizing another group because they don't make music that caters specifically to your taste.

Periphery, Jeff Loomis and Misha Mansoor (Bulb) are all talented musicians, regardless of whatever waste you people leave as a YouTube comments.

  • @camundahl

Everything that is made and promoted this way can and should be criticized, regardless of me making or not making music to support my claims. And I'm not denying their talent, it IS very obvious. And "canned" is not what I was talking about, please do not put words in my mouth. I know of great songs that are also very long and that's why I have a "problem" with this one.

and WHY is everobody here so offended??? can you not make a good discussion out of this? Is Loomis somebodys mom?

  • wtf with composition???

are they sticking to any theme here or I'm deaf?

Or is the point of this music to be completely themeless? o.O

  • @SavaEQZY Welcome to progressive metal.

  • @Shady32

I'm not sure what do you mean?

I listened to many prog bands, and almost all of them stick to some form of composition, as complex as it may be.. Here I cannot even make a glimpse of a solid structure.. The same goes for Tesseract etc.

It seems like they are just trying to lay down as many themes as they can for the songs to remain listenable.. and I think they fail greatly at that point..

  • @SavaEQZY You're looking way too into it. I'd go with "your deaf."

  • @Eatsoup3

But how can you not look "way too into it" when it's so filled with everything?!

Otherwise you haven't even scratched the surface, and this is some 15 minutes of surface that is not very clear to me..

And what does the "my deaf" mean anyway?

  • @SavaEQZY You look for a specific "theme" when one is not meant to be found. Not sure what's suppose to be 'clear' to you either. You should be happy that a song can confuse you and make you think outside the box. Sometimes that's bad when a song gets too overly complex and jumpy, but this isn't the case. It's a constant shift of high and low points you just gotta listen to over and over to get a feel for it. "Your deaf" was me quoting something you said in a previous comment btw.

  • @Eatsoup3

well if it's not meant to be found, that's fine, but then one would expect a different approach from song to song. It appears to me that these guys have the same approach throughout most of the songs and all of them are somehow similar to me.

  • @SavaEQZY Dude are you deaf, the theme is easily Metaphysics, they sing about dreams, and the ethereal in just about every song.

  • @thelastsandlins

I meant the musical theme not the lyric theme. The comment was about music, not poetry.

  • @SavaEQZY I totally agree, the only song that seems to have 1 'theme' is Jetpacks was yes

  • @ArtificialFlavaFTB2 Besides that, it seems like they tried to connect all the songs in one big "context".

Dream Theater tried that on the 2nd CD of Six Degrees, and in my opinion, failed almost completely. And that was just another DT's unsucessful attempt of beign Dark Side of the Moon. But I'm mentioning PF in Periphery context, that's just not fair..

  • @SavaEQZY Hey man, I understand where you are coming from on this and you have a valid point. Notice at the very beginning of the song the rhythm guitarist starts off the song with arpeggiated chords. This same arpeggiation of chords occurs many other times throughout the song but with slight variation. You could view this as Theme A. The guitar solo could be considered Theme B. The guitar solo has a very similar arpeggiation to "Theme A" but it is obviously in a different, but relatable key.

  • @blitzkrieg187 ofc I noticed that and I view it positively. In fact, my greatest reproach to Periphery music is the vocal aspect. I listened to this album a considerable amount of times and it always appears to me that the singing logic is somewhat like this "ok so I have The Chord Progression and now I'll sing in natural minor for some time, then I'll hit the diminished fifth here and add a major third to alter the fourth chord. And then I'll growl awhile!!"... You got my point?

  • 4:38 different singer?

  • @wHildcHilD100 If I remember correctly, those are guest vocals from Elliot Coleman.

  • I had not heard of Jeff Loomis until I heard this song, but I'm glad I did cuz this song, especially the solo, made me have to change my pants

  • who is jeff?? if u dont kwon what r u doin here?? u suc

  • Lyrics correction. It's "Every step recalled" both times.

  • only true musicians can make a 15min track worth listening to through and through and keep it all the way interesting. i raise my glass.

  • I don't mean to sound like an idiot, but Who is Jeff Loomis and what's His connection with Periphery/this song?

  • @ComfyNumb1989 hes a great guitarist and did a guest solo in this song

  • @ComfyNumb1989 He's the lead guitarist from Nevermore and he solos in this song. I'm not sure if he helped write a little bit of the song too.

  • 5:45 - 6:03 Is amazing. But, the whole song is just an absolute eargasm...

  • Jeff Loomis kicking ass yet again. No surprise there

  • replay rape

  • fucking gorgeous

  • @pauljmcgoogan We have the same last name :P

  • @Slashbag69 lol, Mcgoogan, thats fuckin ballin buddy. ;) im jelous

  • This band is the shit. Good sound.
