  • 00:36 to :45 is a rush and then :46 to :56 is a few quiet, gentle relaxing moments including the lyrics "if they do now" and a great hand clap (I hope not an animal slap!). I guess these 20 seconds of rock and roll history are up there with John Lennon's last note in "A Day in the Life" or the The Replacements intro on "Unsatisfied". Of course some may differ with me but I don't want to hear it. Why can't you people listen to my genius and appreciate my brilliant insight once in a while!

  • Most people just don't realize that this is production-wise and melody/singing-wise one of their wisest songs.

  • I love this song so much! Very clever :D

  • Do you think Paul and Art were high when he wrote this? His muse! LOL! Incredible! Paul Simon & Art Garfunkle were genuise's.....pure and simple! Their music reflected and spoke for a generation in their time... and yet today?

  • Great song...... way to short......underrated classic....better than anything today

  • @ronvk100 very little music of the pass is not better than today's crap.

  • Simon & Garfunkel At the Zoo sound like the Beatles A Day in the Life, called the title A Day in the Life At the Zoo

  • @MrWalterlee011 u son of a bitch! XD. sorry. but i hate the beatles. bunch of manipulative hacks. scuse me...

  • this song makes my sole dance

  • hahaha take a look of "Martha tiene un marca pasos" from "Hombres G" xD

  • this is funny.

  • @FarmerHeard Erm... what?

It's also unusual to call jews "nazis"... or did I miss some ultra-intelligent irony?

  • @FarmerHeard you have a dark ugly mixed up soul ..the difference between animals and people is ...unfortunately its legal to put animals to sleep ..that are sick in the head or sick physically ..and its illegal to put people like you to sleep that are ignorant misguided and emotionally disturbed...

  • @deniseguzzardo suck my dick

  • @FarmerHeard

I hope you realised you got owned there... altough I doubt it, you're obviously fucking retarded.

  • The monkeys stand for honesty Giraffes are insincere And the elephants are kindly, but they’re dumb Orangutans are skeptical Of changes in their cages And the zookeeper is very fond of rum Zebras are reactionaries, Antelopes are missionaries Pigeons plot in secrecy And hamsters turn on frequently What a gas! You got to come and see at the zoo at the zoo at the zoo
  • Washington, D.C. -- The biggest zoo in the USA

  • elephants never forget...they always remember....

  • the chipmunks

  • bobzed106, It's not a bad life living in the zoo. You get fed at meal time. No rent or financial obligations. Free healthcare. Lots of vistitors too!

  • you know what you should do is go to the zoo with a wagon and a cordless cd player and put that in the wagon and go arund the zoo playing this song and then see if you get tips and donate them to childrens hspital,st.lukes, pennies for patcience, haiti,of Japan becaus ethese people could really use it or just find a way to make some ones day thnx that would make my da if you could um check out my video's and comment on them and tell me how you made some ones day also listen to 105.3 Klove!

  • Haha after all the deep songs like old friends, this song pops up at the end,

    Genius :-)

  • I went to the zoo once, it was called catford

  • It really helps to be familiar with New York city when listening to their songs

  • my girlfriend would be a capuchin...at the zoo.

  • Very nicely done! May I ask what font you used?

  • this is delicious

  • elephants may be deaf, but seem never dumb...

  • "orangutans are skeptical of changes in there cages" best line ever, makes me lol everytime, i dont know why.....

  • @Mikanish pigeons plot in secrecy, and hamsters turn on frequently

  • This song reminds me when I was a child!

  • @michelGTx that never happened. no matter what anyone tells you.

  • This song reminds me when I was a child!

  • I've always liked this song but never knew all the lyrics. How can this song not put a smile on your face??? Masterpiece of fun.

  • I bet Art and Simon were probably sitting around, in the bathroom or something, high off their rocker, and then Simon was like, "Hey man, why don't we, like, make a song about... the zoo?"

    "Ah, far out Paul!"

  • Comment removed

  • people with good tast of music: 200

people who never have gone to a zoo\animal haters :11

  • who votes simon & garfunkel down? really? :-\

  • referenced by fox mulder in the x files. Spooky things start happening at the zoo, and with his trademark laconic cool, he says to his partner: "It's all happening at the zoo, scully!"

  • @firestartertwistedfi you could have left out the word 'trademark' there and the sentence would actually have been improved

  • i will srat singing this song now everytime i go to...the zoo!!!!

  • @sixtiesgal101 start*

  • @sixtiesgal101 isn't that sweet.

  • guess where im going today!

  • @Jesterrogue the cinema?

  • @Jesterrogue At the ZOO!

  • ohhh dad I miss you so much .... four years ago my father was beat en to death ... my brother and I were raised on Simon and Garfunkel...love and miss you dad

  • Great song from simpler times.

  • omg! i work at the zoo! this made my day :D

  • i was at the zoo in dublin last weekend!!!

  • I don't get this song. Are the animals metaphors for anything or is it just a nice song with no underlying meaning? I hope it's the latter because the lyrics are gold as they are. I'd be disappointed to find out that there's some "DEEPER MEANING" behind this song.

  • @ExxonAmadeus I think it's just a general humorous story about going to the zoo....With a lovely insight from Paul Simon.

  • @ExxonAmadeus no, there is no "DEEPER MEANING" to this song, it's just a fun song about going to the zoo. also it's my favorite song... second octopuse's garden by the beatles.

  • Listen to the entire album, English only warning.

  • O-kay...

  • oh my god.. I can only think about latest Disney(Pixar/Dreamworks-movies based on those animals XD.. bittersweet.

  • This song was made into a very good children's book

  • yes i had it when i was little. loved both the book and song

  • I loved how the book worked around some of the more adult lyrics. For "the zookeeper is very fond of rum" they made rum" they made Rum the name of one of the beavers! LOL

  • No mames. Hahaha, malditos hombres Gays

  • Asquerosamente Influenciados, esos gachupines piratas!!!!

  • rayos dire ke tambien stoi porl o mismo XD

  • he vivido engañada tanto tiempo (U)

    hahaha Oh Dios!

  • jajajaja yo igual

    y si me dejas decirtelo

    me suena a plagio

  • I love this song!!

  • This song realy spoke to my soul.

  • This is a right cheery video and I enjoy coming back to see it all the time.

Very nice job with posting the pictures and lyrics together.

Thank You for the video since Simon and Garfunkel are from my childhood and I miss seeing and hearing the music.

A truly big Thank You Happymike

  • Nicely lettered, and a very pretty example of simple animation applied to a perfectly suited song. Thank you.

  • spanish and hispanics pals, this is the original of a song of hombres g titled "marta tiene un marcapasos", those bastards from madrid

  • Wooooooo, take it easy man.... there's a lot of bastards in this world, but there's no enough space for write their names...., altough nice cover from David summers and his pals...

  • I bought this on a 45 with Flowers never bend with the rainfall on the b side..it seems so long ago but i still love it..got zero airplay in the UK and totally bombed

    Jim

  • My Dad played this to me when I was about four and I'v loved them ever since..great!

  • This song realy spoke to me... I now understand why I was put on this earth. I realize now... I belong at the zoo.

  • @bobzed106 I'll join you ... I'll be at the penguines habitat..... :)

  • te meaning depends on your intepretation ..

  • One of simon & Garfunkel's best!

    Love the song!

  • Apart from my crap spelling are we not saying the same thing?

  • I think u r lol

  • AWOMSE SONG! i lvoe it

  • what does this song mean?

  • Its as view of human life from the east side, using the animals to morror human life and how we behave.

  • It's about the Central Park Zoo: a little corner of nature in the middle of the human zoo of Manhattan. The first lyrics summarize how to get there by bus from the Upper East Side.

  • orangatags are skeptical to changes in their cages

  • Man, this song is amazing

  • I remember the X Files had an episode about scary, supernatural things going on in a zoo, and at one point Mulder turned to Scully and said in his sardonic way, "It's all happening at the zoo, Scully"

  • I remember my aunt and uncle haveing this album and me playing the hell out of it,,,,ahhh wasted youth

  • They were SOOO GOOD!

  • Just got to love this song...one of their best

  • Great Song

  • great song from bookends, possibly their best album.

  • A children's book was made of this song. For the part that says "The Zookeeper is very fond of rum," the illustration shows the zookeeper smiling patting the head of a cute monkey. (The monkey has a collar with the name "Rum" on it.)

  • Haha I must get hold of that book:P

  • This is such a catchy song! Haha, I listen to it to fall asleep. Over and over...

  • I used to sing this at school when I was 14 (12 yrs ago) my friends didn't think it was a real song lol! Always reminds me of my mum.

  • It reminds me of my mum too. She belonged in a zoo.

  • @Kevin90028 My ex belongs in a zoo - as tiger food.

  • @Kevin90028 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • I LOVE THIS LITTLE SONG! THANKS

  • geiler song!!!

  • actually elephants are very smart

  • That's very true. But maybe it's just the elephants at this particular zoo? Not all zoo-keepers are 'fond of rum', so... Or perhaps it's just amazing song lyrics? :) But you're right, anyway.

  • Great song,of course.

Most don't realize the 45 version is better; it has more punch in the percussive parts.

  • I've always been under the impression that Simon was high as a kite on grass when he wrote this song. I like it, though.

  • He'd just be joining the crowd back then.

  • If he was, he made good money from it on the music

  • let the monkeys stand for honesty, giraffes are insincere!

lovely. i love simon and garfunkel. <3

  • Hamsters LOL i love it!! Great song...

[[different person]] and i personally tire if people who dont know who simon and garfunkel are. im 16 and i still know! they are total.legends. rock! xxx

  • Matha tiene un marcapasos, "Hombres G"

  • That could be. I have never thought about that before but well who knows. :)

  • Probably 99% of this guys songs written in the 1960`s were written while high on pot. The entire album "Bookends" is all about pot. Smoking pot and what he did while high on pot. Don`t believe me, read the lyrics.

  • Well, this was originally written as part of the soundtrack to The Graduate (it was rejected when the director pointed out that the film was set on the west coast, not in New York.)

Mrs Robinson is, obviously, about the film. I can't hear anything pot related in it.

Is America about pot? Overs is about the break-up of a relationship. Voices of Old People - well that's voices of old people.

I can't really see it all being about pot. But I may be stupid.

  • And surely it's diminishing Paul Simon's skills as a lyricist to suggest he wrote about something as silly as cannabis for song after song?

  • Read what I wrote; I said "Smoking pot and what HE DID while high on pot"...America; "Pass me a cigarette, I think there`s one in my raincoat... We smoked the last one an hour ago"...Just about every song he wrote in the 1960`s has a reference to weed and that`s not a bad thing, I am not diminishing him at all, just pointing out that he is honest.

  • he said cigarette, not joint.

  • you want to see what happens when you try and create on weed? watch the episode of family guy when peter and lois try to write while high.

  • Him and Artie use to spend countless hours smoking weed in their cars and harmonizing. At the Zoo is one of my favorites because I saw the same crap when I was stoned at the Bronx zoo. He was writing about the Bronx Zoo, and he saw no difference between humans and the animals nor did I. I literally got a vibe from each of them like that.

  • Believe me, listen more closely and you will hear the pot seeping through., "Grass is high- and the sky is a shady haze of winter"...Sounds of silence is about him smoking a joint and going into the bathroom to jerk off when he was a teenager still living with his parents. How do I know this? HE said so!! Don`t believe me, read the lyrics to that! It`s all about him getting off and paranoia!

  • I love this song!!! Thank you sooo much for posting :D

  • love this song listen to the words carefully and you will see that paul simon is a musical genius regards from ireland!!

  • Creative video- took a lot of imagination to make this right??

  • Imagination has nothing to do with it... you work with the tools you have.

  • well, you must have had some good tools then.

  • Simon and garfunkel make amazing music. I even prefer the less known ones currently like dangling conversation, at the zoo, sparrow e.t.c. But i wish a lot these songs were be longer

  • The duo's best tune IMO.

    It's just so...cool!!!

  • The accompanying slide show is terrific. Nothing cheap about it; it's inspiring.

  • thanks for posting this cool song"!

  • CHOOOOON!!!!!

  • Muerte a perricida

  • Thank you, I just found out that I never got the lyrics right till now: I always thought the zookeeper was "hurry on the run" to flee from the orang utans.

  • Thank you!! My 4 and 5 yr old love this song.

  • this is my favourite simon and garfunkel song!! thanks a million!

  • cute! I like to play the song as I read along with Paul's children book. I love how they have "Rum" the beaver! hahahaha!!!!

  • or the part with the hamsters switching on lights.......i thought that was cute.

  • yeah, the whole book is adorable! :D

  • Normally I'd be very critical of this...but...it's pretty good. Nice work.

  • A great and underplayed S&G song

  • great song, I love it but I cant really recall the last time I saw humsters at the zoo lol...

  • My favorite ,Simon and Garfunkel song ,thanks for the post man.
