I was standing @ the sports book @ Ceasar's Palace in LV when Gibby hobbled up to the plate.I told my brother and a few of his buddies that he'll either K or hit a HR.They thought I was crazy.Little did they know.I had a friend who actually went to the game and left early because he figured Dennis Eckersley would mow everyone down in the bottom of the 9th.I guess Yogi Berra was right when he said "It ain't over till it's over".
Buckner will always be remembered for that one play. No one remembers that he was a good player with boarder line hall of fame numbers. Also that the Sox had two outs with no body on base and still could not close the deal.
But when it comes to post season moments you could go on forever with which ones should be remembered there are so many. Larsen prefect game, the catch, walk off home runs, 2001 series, the mad dash, gibson and koufax. JT Snow saving Dusty Baker's son
You forgot the 1960 World Series; Game 7 was decided by a walk off home run off of Ralph Terry by Bill Mazeroski. The only other time a series was decided in the 7th game by a walk off home run was Joe Carter's 3 run homer off Mitch Williams in the 1993 World Series-you call yourself a baseball fan? BTW, Mazeroski and Roberto Clemente were the only players from the 1960 team active when the Pirates won again in 1971.
Ummmm...did you ever hear of Kirby Puckett and his homerun to win Game 6 of the 1991 Series...the greatest World Series of all time? Geez, Ozzie Smith in Game 5 of the NLCS.... that's like junior league....
Finally found a Scully call on this play. All I have to say is there is a reason Jack Buck's call is the most used call of this home run. It's better. "High Fly ball; There she goes" doesn't show what this moment was. Why, because it truely was Unbelieveable. Honestly if I were even alive at that moment and saw it I wouldn't have believed it. Perfect call for a Perfect Moment. There's nothing like baseball, nothing.
Buck's call is legendary... It's a shame it's always cut after he says "I don't believe what I just saw," cause he repeats it with such shock in his voice the 2nd time around, that you truly feel the shock of all those involved.. What a moment..
Scully is on of the best in the business, but Bucks's call of Gibson's homer is maybe the best ever. All the amazement and emotion, but he still got the facts out there.
The reason you don't hear Scully's call is because it is the property of Major League Baseball. And they want the clip of this to be ONLY on MLB.com. They are almost as protective of it as the NFL is of their historic broadcast clips. Buck's call was for CBS Radio, and MLB isn't as concerned about radio clips.
Listen to you Dodger homers. Vin Scully and Jack Buck are two of the most iconic baseball announcers of all time. Who gives a shit which one you prefer? This isn't about you. This is about the uploader. Does it say "MLB Postseason Moments Specifically Tailored to Dodger Fans"? No, it doesn't. He prefers the Buck call -- plenty of people do. Does that mean Scully's isn't as good? No. It means this one guy prefers it. So shut the hell up.
JOE CARTER'S WALK OF HOME RUN TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES IS NOT OFTEN BROUGHT UP WHEN TALKING ABOUT GREAT MOMENTS IN BASEBALL..IM GUESSING THAT'S DUE TO THE FACT IT WAS A CANADIAN TEAM HE PLAYED FOR WHEN HE HIT THE HOME RUN..
I actually didn't think about Carter's home run. I had to keep this video under 4 minutes, so I limited my picks to a few that was on top of my head. But Carter was a great one, and he isn't in there as I couldn't include every great moment in the Postseason as I could do a series of videos of it.
@MrThe1123 I agree. Some nice moments here but If Carter were with any other (U.S) team and hit a walk-off homer in the 9th for a come-from-behind win to take the world series, it would be on everybody's list and no one would be saying "I didn't think about it" or putting some Ozzie Smith homer from a NLCS game 5 up instead of Carter. LOL. It was certainly not just a great moment but surely in the top 3 GREATEST postseason moments.
@TheDaddyCokes The main reason I put Ozzie's home run is because I'm a big Cardinals fan. If I didn't make this video last spring, I would of included David Freese's game 6 walk off home run.
What made Scully's call so great was the way he narrated the drama leading up to the homerun, his emotional yet succinct description of the homerun (high-fly ball into right field! Sheeeee is gone!!!), his letting the crowd's reaction tell the story, and then his unscripted poetic summary (In a year that had been so improbable, the impossible just happened!). Classic Skully. Nobody better.
@dodgersb4girls I don't deny Scully is a great announcer, and it was a great call. But without the home run is mostly associated with Jack Buck. Since majority of the country aren't Dodgers fans, and the moment is now known more with Buck than Scully outside of Los Angeles, I wanted to use the better known call.
@pandersonnike Yeah but Vin's call is from NBC. Its not from local Dodger radio. He was doing it as a national announcer. Buck called it for CBS Radio IIRC
@pandersonnike I take issue with your assessment. Jack Buck is an excellent announcer and his Gibson HR call was awesome!!! Yes Vin Scully is the Hall of Fame Dodgers' play by play broadcaster but in this game, Vin was the announcer on the NBC television network. Buck's call was on the radio. So, I believe more people are familiar with the Vin Scully description of Gibson's homerun which as dodgersb4girls points out was a classic.
@bigjohnmac Be that as it may, I take issue with your statement. I to this day, when I have a radio, listen to Mike Shannon and John Rooney over the muted TV. If people knew Jack Buck was calling the radio, they would be listening to him, because I maintain that listening to Buck call a game is more exciting than watching it on TV. And honestly, how many times has that clip been played with Buck's call? You are in denial if you say Scully's voice is more tied to that than Buck's.
@pandersonnike Why is Jack Buck's the better known call? His call was for the radio broadcast. More people know Scully's TV call for NBC. It was just a coincidence that he was also the Dodgers announcer.
@pandersonnike Actually uhh, panderson, most people who experienced the game watched it that night on television, and Vin is incomparable! I can still see the brake lights of the exiting idiots in the parking lot light up as Scully yells "She is GONE!"
@dodgersb4girls Great collection. I understand Dodgersfans wanting their announcer to be used (though I'm from St. Louis and therefore love Jack Buck...(we met him twice...kindest man I've eveer met.)) Joe Carter should have been included too, especially with the team being so great and Carter being such a gentleman.
for game 1 of the 1988 dodgers/athletics world series opener, i was sitting in the reserve level out near the right field foul pole. i was 11 years old at that time. i am now 34 years old. i shall never forget that i witness live and in person one of the greatest baseball games ever played. i bore witness to history being made in the stadium that day before my very eyes.
..... you forgot joe carter 1993 when the jays won. well if you a phillie fan i can understand why you forgot it lol , but thats one of the best homeruns of all time
I understand why Dodgers fans would want Vin Scully's call, but as a non-Dodger fan, I have to disagree. The actual call of the Home Run by Buck is better. You get more of a feeling how special the home run was by Buck's call. Scully's call of the home run was pretty generic "SHE IS GONE"...compared to Buck's "I DON'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW!" Scully's call doesn't really give you a feeling of how special that home run was. You could put Scully's call for any home run that was ever hit.
@salukidc Scully has always prefered to let the moment speak for itself...In a world of bombastic ESPN announcers, and Joe Morgan lying to everyone, every night he was on the air, Mr. Scully is a refreshing breath of spring air...
@salukidc Well Scully's call was like that because he was on TV. Buck was on radio, so he had to describe it. What makes Scully's call so great is the all of his lines before and after the home run. The "SHE IS GOOONE!" is classic Scully.
@cubsdestined2win I understand all of that. If you are doing the whole at bat leading up to the home run, I'd go with Scully. If you are only showing the home run, I like Buck's call.
I totally get why Dodgers fans would rather have Scully's call. 1) It's Vin F'ing Scully. 2) Dodgers fans know the context of the home run. To the common fan, they might not know, so Buck's call is more important for people that may not understand the full context of the home run already.
thats too bad, i was gonna listen to this until i heard it isnt vinney's call, remember u tube isnt so much what u like, its what u think the public likes, and i can tell u vinneys call was and still is highly popular, u ararely hear mention o jack bucks call, prolly cause he was a bit boring
@gta41978 This was for a school project, and I picked the clips I wanted to include. Also I couldn't find Vin Scully's clip to use in my video, but I wanted Kirk Gibson's home run.
@gta41978 a bit boring? Are you serious? You act like we are talking about Joe Buck instead of the great Jack buck. What was so great about Scully's call besides the fact that he was the dodger announcer?
@billc756 I prefer the Jack Buck call over Vin Scully’s, and also I couldn’t get Scully’s for my project. I just couldn’t find it as everyone only has Buck’s call.
There's a long drive, if it stays fair, HOME RUN!!! Carlton Fisk definately had a lot of little kid in him there...
