  • Anybody knows some good fiddle playing bands? I only know of the corrs.. And I'm not even sure if they are fiddle playing, but I like their vibe... Any help in finding sum quality music?? :D

  • Am I missing something, or are the qualities of the music being talked about not just Shetland?

The Northern Isles have a very distinct form of playing that is very percussive, it's called "chick-a boom"

  • i shoulda NEVER left the country.

  • All of Sierra Noble's music is available on iTunes.

  • She's hot

  • She's hot

  • my name is sierra haha funny

  • OMFG THERE'S SOMEONE ON WOODEN SPOONS!!!

  • I love this! Reminds me of my kokum's brothers playing in my grandfathers house when I was young, good fun family times, giggling with my kokum, jigging with my grandad....I always wanted to learn to play fiddle and it's really cool to see a female fiddler!

  • The only thing ironic here is there's no changing meters in the song played in the background, all measures have exactly 4 beats. Though I do like the song.

  • If anyone here is Metis, you may have French, Gaelic, or English bloodlines in you aside from the glorious Cree bloodlines you have,(never forget FineDay!!),......Therefore, be aware of youre collective Celtic cultural ancestory. The days before Julius Caesar crossed the Alps to ruin our world! but we're comin back strong! Regardez>>" Eluveitie-Ne Regv Na"

  • @mixs1002 thats why i disliked it

  • If you travel by air on an Air Canada flight, Air Canada has the full documentary "Sierra's Song" available to view on all flights! It a beautiful mini documentary about Canadian fiddler Sierra Noble. It was filmed when Sierra was just 15 years old. You can also find singer/songwriter and fiddler Sierra Noble on facebook, twitter or at sierranoble.ca

  • Honestly why do I keep finding videos where there is a HUGE amount of likes (because the video is actually very good) and then there's people who disliked it? Who are the idiots who keep clicking that button? BAH!

  • awsome music

  • wow the scots and meits are pretty similar peoples connections must run deep

  • @seonidh Not at all. The "metis", as their very name indicates, are the result of crossing French with Cree.

  • @cactoosjack It is Big John McNeil, but it's not a Metis song. It's Scottish, as jdfiddler mentioned a week before your comment.

  • Could we actualy watch this video without all the yaking going on? I would like to just hear the marvelous tune they are playing.

  • The girl playing is so beautifull!!!! o.O

  • The tune is called John McNeil sometimes also called Big John McNeil. It is originally from Scotland.

  • @Phillip47747 the name of the tune is Big Scioty. there's a good video of Jay Ungar and Aly Bain playing it on this site.

  • @mandohiker ...my mistake. the actual name of the tune is Big John McNeal

  • just sounds like bluegrass to me...

  • Does anyone know the name of the documentary this is from?

  • @whenwhathuh The documentary that this clip is from is titled "Sierra's Song" and is about Canadian fiddler Sierra Noble. "Sierra's Song" was filmed by John Barnard of Farpoint Films when Sierra Noble was just 15 years old.

  • luv this song

  • damn, that Sierra Noble is hotter than two dollar pistol! If she was smiling at ME like that I wouldn't have been able to play those spoons.........

  • I had a fiddle competition once and everybody played the classic way, when i preformed this they where just shocked haha. Didn't get a price couse i had to play classic but after the competition loads of people asked what kinda song i was playing - that maked everything good :)

  • great!

  • Antonio Stradivari is my hero too!! :)

  • amazing

  • Wol! Wonderfullll! ;)

    Kissesss!!!

  • It may be Metis, but the tune isn't. It's a stomping Scotish Cape Breton called Big John MacNeil. Sierra plays it with all necessary verve and conviction and she's quite a bit better looking than most people who play this tune.

  • great job!, great to see young people playing the fiddle.

  • is there a good version of Sierra Noble playing this song without this woman talking over it?

  • i totally agree withthe lady

  • Awesome job, nice to see aboriginal people showing that we have true talents to show other people. Very good job.

  • @tukkyyoou aboriginal people? More then 60% of Quebecer have Native American blood and can be referred to as Métis. But the Natives in general don't consider the Métis as aboriginal.

  • @philbox17 I didn't mean to offend you in any way Mr. philbox, I have nieces and nephews that are Metis and I consider them aboriginals. I in fact call them Natives before I call them Metis. All that I am saying is that the general population is mad at aboriginals, the caucasion is mad at us when we work hard and are self sufficient and they are also mad at us when we are on welfare. go figure.

  • @tukkyyoou indeed general population is ignorant and stupid, myself included, we are all ignorant Natives are too. I was not insulted by your comment, I simply said that Natives in general do not recognized the Métis nation as real aboriginals. They see them as part caucasian and they believe they are evil because of that. General native population is racist just like the general white population...

  • nice doc!

  • This girl can saw a mean fiddle!

  • this girl is very talented, and plays verywell, but would have been better without the voices in the back ground, geesh, plz repost without interruptions

  • Sierra has two Cd's out.

Her first CD "Spirit of the Strings" is all traditional and Old Time fiddle music .

As well as being a world class fiddler Sierra is also a very talented singer/songwriter.

Her latest Cd "Possibilities" has both vocal and fiddle tracks on it.

Both are great recordings and are available on i tunes or can be ordered through your local CD stores.

Sierra also has two Official music videos out titled "Possibility" and "Try Anything". Both are here on You Tube and on i tunes.

  • Sierra Noble's fiddle album is titled "Spirit of the Strings".

She also has a new vocal and fiddle Cd out titled "Possibilities"

Sierra also has a vocal CD(which has two fiddle tunes on it) titled "Possibilities" - also available on itunes.

  • could you please give a more details about where to find this piece ? thanx

Sierra has two Cd's out now "Spirit of the Strings" and her latest "Possibilities". She is currently working on a new CD which will come out sometime later this year

  • The You Tube clip is from a mini documentary about Sierra Noble. It is titled "Sierra's Song" and was filmed by Far Point Films based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Sierra Noble is also from Winnipeg!

  • I would like to hear this thing again, BUT NOT WITH HER TALKING OVER THE FIDDLING !!!

  • Great tune, nice chick, clean crisp playing. LIke it!

  • mmh..she should start talking after the song#s finished. thats right ^^ but only if you're just interested in the music. for the background, listen to her.

  • Watch your french! somebody ought to wash your mouth out with soap!

  • you mean my hands? I always wash my hands with soap.

  • I mean you should watch your language. If you want a video without the commentary (I'd like that too!) you could try asking without the trash talk. It usually works better and people will respect you more.

  • I love that half laugh/half smile she does at 1:05, so cute.

  • Wow, Sierra is gorgeous!

  • Great tune,well played!

  • I just love the tune and the bow technique, beautiful.

  • I think the young women is Fantastic Go hiontach ar fad . very good > Gracias muy bien ----sana ---pat

  • This is a great clip .. all round. Nothing wrong with this at all. Stop whinging, you lot below. A little extra background education never hurt anybody !! Haven't you lot ever heard of the concept of "lifelong learning" ? Well, here is a fine example, right here. Most entertaining & instructive clip. Very well done !! Congrats, camerasglobal !!

  • @colindominy i totaly agree with u i have voted you and you get 5 stars great explanation ***** :)

  • Down load this again without the obnoxious commentary

  • The song is called "Big John McNeil. This clip is a small sample from the 2005 documentary I made for CTV called "Sierra's Song". I have a couple other clips from the movie on my page as well. Thank you everyone for your comments. I'll try and post more soon.

  • SHUTUP so we can enjoy the music!

  • Comments don't make noise. If you want to just listen to the music then don't scroll down and read the comments. That's what the comment section is for, COMMENTS!

  • People, children look at this video clip so it might be nice to try and keep it civil on here and not swear so much.

Everyone has an opinion it seems but maybe we should stop for a just a moment and enjoy the music.

  • Im curious as to how it is different then other fiddle music? Here in the maritimes we play just like that, and I don't know anyone who is Metis?

  • I don't understand why anyone would give this thumbs down. It is a completly lagitimite question and not offensive in anyway.

  • i dont care about the history of the fiddle just let them play the darn music!!!1

  • Excuse me chrissmellsnice, but I believe most old Americans came from Europe. Were they supposed to toss their heritage aside when they landed ashore? That is absurd! It is just as much theirs to hold on to. They not only kept the old music alive in its pristine form in the Appalachian mountains, but have built their own beautiful music traditions as well. You codpiece.

  • Who cares? She's good. I know ton of Irish people who play piano, and did they invent that? No.

  • god forbid we applaud a 15 year old for choosing something productive like ethnic folk music to do in her spare time over drugs.

quit arguing over the origin of her fiddle playing and enjoy it.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Chrissmellsnice,

My family began arriving here in the ealry 1600's and the last dose of fresh European blood arrived in the late 1700's. A lot of fun, new and exciting things have happened since then. Thanks for the all the bollocks -- I can't believe you guys actually eat those things!

  • Sierra you look hot
