  • I recently got to pay the 3985 a visit on Oct. 9 & 10, 2010, in St. Louis and Pacific, Missouri. Videos and photographs don't really do the engine justice, especially in relating the sense of size. Now I'm a tall guy, but I barely got past the pilot (cowcatcher), and the whistle vibrated my entire body.

Got to talk with the crew and see the cab as well, a simply awesome experience all around.

  • If only there were Big Boys running to.

  • @logo47 I agree....but, unfortunately the rail these days is too light for them....and there is only one wye left on the entire UP system to turn them and no turn tables big enough....which would make it impractical.....plus the operating expenses would not make it worth it's keep.....Unfortunately !! At least there's 8 survivors to see.

  • Blimey! Thats a beautiful steam engine!

  • I was on the July 20th trip. The train stopped just past the house I lived in when I was a kid in Platteville.

  • Yes it was a great trip that day. I joined the locomotive for a cab ride from Platteville to Greeley - featured on the DVD. Thanks for your interest!

  • Not that I'm aware.

    Thanks for your interest.

  • Now, Wasn't it 03 that the Challenger came out Illinois way?
