  • Wait... I thought Ireland spoke English?! 0.o

This version is so much better than the English version.

  • @Amphiprionic Most part of Ireland is bilingual, speaking English as a first language and Irish as second, taking Irish exams at school, reading Irish signs on the street... But some parts of Ireland, the Gaeltachtaí (this is the plural, one Gaeltacht, two Gaeltachtaí), speak Irish as a first language and learn English just like, for example, a Spanish person would.

  • @Amphiprionic Ireland speaks Irish (Gaelic) AND English.

(I thought most of us not-so-dumb-Americans already knew that...but maybe not...maybe only if we're extreme fans of Ireland. ^__^)

  • @KittyStarlight There are three Gaelic languages. Irish, Scottish and Manx. Irish is known as Irish(in English) and Gaeilge(in Irish), or if you must, Irish Gaelic. Irish isn't known as Gaelic.

  • OMG I got hacked! I didn't write that comment!

  • @finipops hey dumbass the irish flag is red white and green i know because im irish gosh...fucking moron

  • @TheBakerbreaker you fucking idiot I'm irish and you just described the italian flag :(

you make irish people look stoopid

  • @SL4Y3R98 The national flag of Ireland is a vertical tricolour of green (at the hoist), white, and orange. It is also known as the Irish tricolour. The flag proportion is 1:2 (length twice the width). Although the flag's meaning is not covered by the Irish Constitution, the Irish government has stated that the green represents the Gaelic tradition of Ireland and the orange represents the followers of William of Orange in Ireland, with white representing peace, or a truce, between them.

  • @SL4Y3R98 I would also like to point out that you misspelled stupid. ;)

  • @califotec it was on purpose youtube does have a spellchecker

  • @SL4Y3R98 Alright then, kudos to you for that. :)

    bu-beannacht!

  • I have unending respect for people like myself who are some of the very few that enjoy speaking and learning Irish, so fucking proud of it (:

  • @LauraaKirwan

    Agreed :3

I speak Irish, and I love it. ^^

  • @TehReconHater they in different parys The Gaeltacht regions can be found in the west of ireland in regions like Goath Dobhair Co.Donegal, West Connemara Co.Galway, and in regions in Mayo,Kerry,Cork,Meath and Waterford im from west connemara myself and theres different dialects from each region.

  • @TehReconHater 1) This isn't Gaelic. It's Irish. In Irish it's known as Gaeilge, but not Gaelic. Never Gaelic. There are several Irish speaking areas in the country, most prominent in Connemara in Galway, Kerry, Donegal and Ring. But people do speak Irish everywhere. One of the reasons that it's never noticed how much irish is spoken is because they go to gaelscoileanna and people completely separated from the language never get to see who speaks it and just assume it's a dead language.

  • A culture without a language is a culture without a soul. Unfortunately the British took over Ireland and forced Irish to stop being learnt. They made it look like a poor-persons uneducated tongue. Those who stand in the way of the language's resurgence are no better than those who attempted to destroy the culture to begin with.

  • what im english not irish

  • @TheLittlemonkey5 You should be proud that you have own language...ungrateful idiot

  • @Scealic93 I am but I'd like it better if English hadn't come and took it away now nearly everybody speaks english. And it's very very hard to learn. K fucktard?

  • Tá sé an-hiontach!

  • @culzo89 It's go hiontach.

  • there should be a full length version of this! gaeilge abú! :D

  • I felt the need to clear things up. This video is sung in IRISH GAELIC (or just Irish or Gaeilge). Gaelic is a GROUP OF LANGUAGES which includes: Irish, Scottish and Manx. Just like Germanic is a group of languages which includes, English, German and Dutch. THIS IS NOT IN GAELIC. THIS IS IN IRISH I understand that this is difficult to comprehend, but stop calling it Gaelic. It's Irish or Gaeilge or Irish Gaelic :)
  • @Skyifictionable GAEILGE IS IRISH! GAELIC IS SCOTTISH!!!!

  • @coolmolly888 Ok. I see you need special tutoring.

Gaeilge - Irish OR Irish Gaelic.

    Gàidhlig - Scottish Gaelic.

Gaelic is a GROUP OF LANGUAGES which includes, Irish Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic and Manx Gaelic.

    As a comparison:

Germanic is also a GROUP OF LANGUAGES which includes, English, Dutch and German.

    Comprende?

  • @Skyifictionable woo you tell em straight

  • @Skyifictionable as gaeilge

  • @Skyifictionable

Nicely cleared up :) - so many people seem to think that:

Gaelic = Irish Gaelic (as though Scots Gaelic were identical or non-existent)

Irish Whiskey = Whisky (as though Scotch Whisky [which has no E] did not exist)

OTOH, considering how Great Britain, & the United Kingdom are apt to be confused with England, the confusion of one Celtic language with another is understandable

  • @5355vbxjbj76rvn The "e" in Irish whiskey stands for excellence. :)

  • @Skyifictionable

Ours needs no such endorsement - if it's excellent, that will be self-evident :)

  • @Skyifictionable I had to correct my cousin's fiance on this same thing. I said I was teaching myself Irish and he asked me, "You mean Gaelic?" and I told him that there are actually 3 different Gaelic languages so saying just Gaelic is unclear.

  • @Skyifictionable dude galic is the irish lauguage i kno im irish so ruten ect shen day frieden shay

  • @alex11962 No. This is not "galic". This is Irish. (or Irish Gaelic or Gaeilge) To call the language you hear in this video "Gaelic" is like calling English, "Germanic". Which is idiotic.

Gaelic (which I think you meant) is a group of languages which includes Irish, Scottish and Manx.

And you my friend are American.

  • @Skyifictionable ohh well fuck it

  • @Skyifictionable

Thank you for making the distinction but technically incorrect. There is a Celtic language family which contains 6 languages. From there, the family is broken down into two subdivisions: Goidelic and Brythonic. Welsh, Breton and Cornish are Brythonic and Irish, Manx and Scottish are Goidelic. But thanks a lot for clearing the whole Gaelic thing up, that BIG TIME bugs people. Go raith maith agat (Irish for thank you) :)

  • @KravistDillonT Goidelic is simply a different name for Gaelic so I am technically correct.

Now, let's not go about confusing these foreigners. It's hard enough for them to grasp that this is not Gaelic/Goidelic as Gaelic/Goidelic is not a language, but a language family.

And I know what Thank you is in Irish. :)

  • @Skyifictionable

Who cares?? Gaelic is the national language.. The title states it as being in IRISH so theres no need to get technacal... doesnt matter what way its worded we no its "Irish Gealic".. it goes without saying... That would be like insted of saying English, having to specify weather its "American English", "British English", "Austrialian English"...

  • @annie90eire First, your an idiot and know little. Second, Gaelic is a language family, not a language like English.

If someone said that this was Gaelic, how would they know if it was Scottish Gaelic, Manx Gaelic or Irish Gaelic? That's why I need to specify. And it's not like the different between American English and British English, because they are dialects of the one language, that being English.

Irish Gaelic and Scottish Gaelic are two different languages. Gaelic is the family.
