It's sad that we live in this day in age where a lot of girls don't even know what a "Southern Belle Dress" is, let alone would wear one. This is how REAL girls dress! =)
@TahshaTPitsMe My dress was EXTREMELY light. Since it was made of tissue lame' and chiffon, it weighed hardly anything. The heaviest part was the slip. There were no bloomers or corsets involved. This was a costume event rather than a historical recreation event, so the requirements for historical accuracy don't apply.
i have not bean abel to find eney similar dress patterns but i would still like to make a dress similar to yours do you still have the old dress and would it be posable for me to copy it in some way
@crouchingtiger1000 Check out the Fashion Historian patterns from Simplicity. They have quite a few Civil War era sewing patterns available including corsets and undergear.

These wide, billowing skirts are Dixielicious! It is exciting to know that teens took an interest in the fashions of the Old South. I hope they all watched Gone with the Wind and embrace the plantation way of life and how vital these skirts were to the aristocracy and set them apart from the other classes of their society. Watching these young ladies walk makes you realize how lavish and privileged it was to be a plantation belle.
"Embrace the plantation way of life"? Surely you're joking. Because I just can't imagine embracing a lifestyle that was built on the backs of slave labor and oppression. And frankly, I enjoy my electricity and indoor plumbing. And the right to vote. Among other things.
Did any of you go to school? I can't believe that adults spell this bad...and the grammer that is a whole other story. I feel bad for people like this!!!!
Here's the deal: most people on "teh interwebz" are not the best spellers and grammarians in the world. And maybe, just maybe, English isn't their first language. I like to get to know people before I diss their mad grammar skilz. And one more thing... Most of the peeps commenting on YT aren't adults. I believe the average age is something like 15.
My daughter is in the second grade (7yrs old), she speaks 3 languages and she is in the top of her class in grammar and spelling. I think anyone should know the difference between hear and here and their and there. If you went to school you would know the difference. They teach grammar in 1st and second grade at 6 and 7 years old. It really bothers me to see anyone like that. That's why people can't get a good job. School is very important!!!! It's just an issue with me. Sorry again.
We're not here to comment on one person's spelling or grammar, we're here to see nice dresses! You don't need to feel bad for them, nobody cares for your opinion
The pattern is long gone. This was over 32 years ago at this point. I highly recommend going to the local mega fabric shop like Joann's when they have patterns on sale fo $1 and picking up any one of the "historical" reproduction patterns. You'd be very close.

@crouchingtiger1000 Not likely since it's been in my garage for over a decade. I don't think anyone would *want* it.

Since this is my channel and I make the rules, I'm going issue one warning and then I will delete any comments on this topic after the fact: BE NICE.
When I was 7, I was in 4th grade. So I'm not impressed. So what! Who cares? It's irrelevant.
It's teh interwebz, not a doctoral dissertation. Get over it.

Gosh. I have NO idea. I've not been part of the pageant circuit since... Uh... 1987 or 1988. Try googling "Southern Belle pageant".

Definitely. No pressure, really. Not like today. Not toddlers with tiaras at that event. I think the youngest group was seven. MAYBE.
