  • If they only knew how good that North By Northwest was going to turn out. One of the top 10 movies of all time. Now to WML and the Panel. I can't number the times when a contestant would come on and I said, there's no way they'll get this one, and they would get it 95 percent of the time or better. I wish I was alive back then to watch all the great shows like this and I've got a secret, To Tell The Truth, and others. People and shows were classy then.

  • She sounds like Thelma Ritter here lol

  • how did that guy know her voice?

  • Super Beauty

  • North by Northwest. Hitchcock loved blondes.

It was a very sexy movie. Notice at the last scene when the train goes through the tunnel.

  • I really liked Eva here

  • Eva Marie Saint was a gorgeous and very talented actress. However, has ayone noticed she sounds like Lois from Family Guy here?

  • tony randall was actually sexy at one time!?

  • She is one of my favorites and the most beautiful actresses.

  • I admire her for her professional and personal success. Fantastic actress!

  • @AnEndlessWarPodcast same here! She is my favorite actress for so many reasons. She is also the reason why North by Northwest is on my top 10 list of favorite movies.

  • I love how she lifts one leg when she kisses tony!

  • Sort of like a classy Cameron Diaz.

  • She didn't make her film debut until she was 30, but she looked younger. She's a gorgeous lady and a fine actress.

  • AnEndlessWarPodcast I certainly agree with you. TThere is a lot of electricity in the air, but everything is done wich such subtility. Delightful. Examples: I noticed that Hitchcock change the make up and her facial attitude just after she says that she tipped the stewart 5$ to sit him at her table. She suddenly switchs from a little bit cold to a warm, charming and irresistible woman to the great pleasure of Roger O Thornhill (Grant). I can say much more but not enough room,

  • How tremendously beautiful and clever Eva Marie Saint is!!!!

  • My favorite movie ever.....it's funny now to see that Eva had to think of the name of it

  • Wow, Eva was absolutely stunning. The perfect woman. Her husband is one super lucky man.

  • i like her disguise voice!

  • @ClassicsWEREandARE i thought her voice is not "disguised" enough...;P

  • So many of the mystery guests don't look at the panelists once the blindfolds come off.

  • She's so lovely! :)

  • Love the "aw shucks" look from Randall after she gives him a big smooch as she leaves.

  • Eva Marie Saint is almost twent years older than I, however as a lad I always thought she was a beautiful woman. She's a cutey!

  • She sounds like Thelma Ritter ha ha.

  • This is interesting for me in a couple of ways. Number one is how impressive Eva Marie Saint is. There is such sensual electricity about her. And she is so alert and lively.

The second thing is that the voice she is using to disguise herself is so like that of Fran Drescher (!) at a time when Fran Drescher was probably not even a twinkle in her parent's eye.

  • Ms. Saint was a willowy, delicate beauty, but her beauty did not seem to last long. Does anyone know if she had a tough life, bad marriage or other reason to have lost her looks so rapidly?

I'm not trying to be mean, but this is a fact that I've always been puzzled by and wondered about.

  • It's actually a bit of an illusion. She looked lovely in The Sandpiper, but didn't do much in the way of well-known TV or movies until Moonlighting nearly 30 years later, so naturally she aged in a way differently than actors who are on the screen constantly permit you adjust visually. (She's 85 now, and I think still looks great for her age!)

  • She's still alive

  • pretty girl

  • North By Northwest was a great film. Interesting to see Eva Marie Saint while she was filming the movie. BTW, she looked gorgeous here in this clip.

  • She sounds like she is doing a Debbie Reynolds low-brow schtick voice-

  • I love Eva Marie Saint, she is just so classy!

And I love how Arlene says "Cary Grant" at 3:11 ! ahaha She's so funny!

  • what a beauty

  • "I'm doing some ?????"

  • Eva provides a great video presentation on the DVD for "North by Northwest".

  • So it's ok to recognize the voice, just not early on??

  • Delightful delivery by Arlene with the Cary Grant query. Thanks very much.

  • greetings from orange county all-once while i was rummaging around the UCIrvine library i found a 1967 issue of los angeles magazine-cover story'the canyon people'(laurel canyon, coldwater canyon-etc)the infamous bel air fire of 1961 stopped 10 FEET from her canyon residence..

  • It excites me to see this: a star as gorgeous as Ms. Saint-Hayden in what is essentially a time capsule of Hitchcock's NBNW in the middle of filming. And the luminous Eva Marie Saint is still going strong at 84!! Nice to see this. Thank you.

  • Some supposed experts contend that the title alludes to a Shakespearian line from Hamlet "I am but mad north-northwest." The characters do move in a north by northwest direction on an airline called Northwest (Orient) Airlines.

Ms Saint is quite amusing given that she is a serious blonde actress in a Hitchcock movie. Would Grace Kelly have ever been so amusing on WML?

  • And other people suggest that it's because the hero of the piece, Roger O. Thornhill, eventually travels North by Northwest airlines in order to resolve the whole imbroglio. As I said, I don't think anyone really has a clue.

  • Incidentally, Eva Marie Saint (born 1924) and director Jeffrey Hayden (born 1926) have been married since 1951. Another very long marriage to add to those of Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson (married 1948) and Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé (married 1957). Wonderful that they are all still with us especially as Eli Wallach was born in 1915.

  • @Fenhalls And Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows.

  • @Fenhalls Oh, and Tony Randall was married to his wife Florence for 50 years before she died, then he remarried, but it still qualifies I think for the list of long Hollywood marriages. Are there any others besides the ones you listed and the two I listed?

  • @TheTubePortal Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart had long running marriages.

  • @Fenhalls wasn't Paul Newman and his wife together for a long time too?

  • I would like to have found out. Grace Kelly, (with one "E"), and Audrey Hepburn are two fo the big stars of the time who I would have liked to have seen on the show but never did it.

What are the rules on disqualification? I would think it would be if you had advance knowledge of who the guest would be.

  • @44032 I wonder why? The two of them would have been great

  • Who want to take a pound of butter round to Eva Marie Saint's house?

For the two people out there who don't know this, North by Northwest is not actually a compass direction. No one really has a clue about the reason for the film's title.

  • FABULOUS!! ;D She's adorable

  • Terrific post - for classic movie buffs how fun to see Saint in the middle of filming North by Northwest. Thanks very much for posting.

  • Yes, that's really quite something.

  • Eva Marie Saint on WML - Great!! & Oh, what a picture she's making :D

  • Keep them rolling, crepehanger47.

  • @georgiadawg18 if you do not like the work he is doing, then get lost.

  • @calihartley2010 Sounds like you need something else to do too.

  • @georgiadawg18 So do you. So follow your own advice.
