Well said. Not to mention the gas mileage that you will save. the 13b is a VERY thirsty engine. this is how REAL car guys talk. too many people are stuck on brand/motor/whatever loyalty. I have owned six count them 123456 rx7's all with rotary's and the were all some of the most fun driving experiences that i have had driving, but with grannysspeed shop and hinson both making swapping in such a great motor as the ls1 very easy, if i do get another rx it will be receiving a v8.
Dude idk this stuff doesnt seem right to me, ive watched lots of 500whp stang videos and in every one their gears are just wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh wahhhhhh i mean dude ive got a 600hp (at the flywheel) mach 1 and my 2nd gear is instantly over 3rd takes about 2 seconds to go thru and 4th maybe like 4 or 5 seconds and by that time im doing 130+mph these videos just dont seem like they are 500 rwhp

The 350 buick is the same weight as a 302 ford....450 pounds....now Ill just add an aluminum intake that just took 40 pounds off. Now if i can add boost to the car like good ol ford boy did it might just equal things out. I will take the "tubs and twins" twin turbo setup for 3 grand. lets race.....

Also, LS1's don't blow up nearly as often as the 13B. You'll spend far more money continually repairing the 13B than doing the swap. Oh, and the LS1 only weighs 60 pounds more. And on top of that, it has much healthier aftermarket support than the 13B.
@spoonspoon1984 Did you bump your head? Having 300 ft lbs of torque at the flywheel by 2.5k RPM is very usable. A bone stock LS1 is rated at 300 hp but it actually puts that down to the wheels. Not many cars can lay down what they are rated at from the factory. Anyone who knows rotaries is aware of their gas consumption and they are lethargic under 4500 RPM. In the long run the owner will spend less on maintenance and can save for upgrades as a few bolt-ons and 350+ whp is easy
@CMI1986X64 Credit isn't due though. I give credit to companies that push engineering, that make engines that may be smaller but are better and more powerful. Take BMW, 4ltr V8 with 550hp. Ford 5ltr V8 with 470hp (in Australia) both these engines are absolutely brilliant V8s. The LS family are so unbelievably backwards. Take a look at a Ls3, it's smaller then a 5.0 from ford (physically), they both get almost the same amount of mpg (Camaro and Mustang), and they both push out similar HP and TQ numbers. About pushing engineering they are, dinosaur tech keeping up with DOHC engines that says something about GMs engineers and their engines.

@Antonio001z I actually previously had a RX-7.. the rotary is unreliable.. hard to tune for.. and over priced for the power you get. The LS1 is a more sure-fire way to get the power, it's more reliable, and cheaper. Not too mention it's an easier mod than rebuilding a wankle motor..
@TheTrentimus to add to that, the engine has crazy oil leak after owning it for more then a couple months. thats with regular maintenance changing the oil every 3K miles. That rotary engine is hard to maintain. The engine itself is amazing though.

LS1s13 - As I totally understand the reason for your comment about how rotaries are not junk. I have to agree BUT if you want that v8 power, you will have to spend more than what but a foxbody in good condition is worth. Also heaven forbid you have a ring leak. You have to spend another 3k just to get it right! Now a turbo 13b motor bareley makes as much power as a pos non PI-headed mustang or stock e7 headed foxbody. To make more power I can spend $1000 and make a good 60 more hp.

You most likely dont like rotary engines because you nothing about them and dont know how to fix them. The reason a lot of people say rotary engines are the most complicated thing to work on, is because they dont know anything about them. When in fact they are actually easier and less complicated to work on than a piston engine.

@392texasred an rx7 with an LS1 is a boatload lighter than an 03-gen cobra in stock form, and I doubt someone would stop at putting a stock ls1 into the RX-7 if they spent the time and money doing the swap in the first place.

Benjenings - What on earth are you suppsed to be doing? Talking smack i hope not because if you think being beat by a yellow car is embarrasing, wait until you get be by a mustang made of rust, rott, cat piss and rat smell... Yeah I been there but that car also made around 550hp as opposed to my measly 210 stang :-) So if colors bother you, I would made a see through car if I was you :-)

LS1s13 - As I totally understand the reason for your comment about how rotaries are not junk. I have to agree BUT if you want that v8 power, you will have to spend more than what but a foxbody in good condition is worth. Also heaven forbid you have a ring leak. You have to spend another 3k just to get it right! Now a turbo 13b motor bareley makes as much power as a pos non PI-headed mustang or stock e7 headed foxbody. To make more power I can spend $1000 and make a good 60 more hp.

The ones that do most times are chevy owners and they cant cope with the fact the Rotary can produce as much power as theyre V8s. Small motor big motor, IDC I like rotarys and piston engines. Far as the LS motors they need to be left in the crap they came in bc theyre a perfect match for eachother =)

@LS1S13 Ive actually never head of a rotary engine breaking down that bad. If they do actually break its a simple fix to get them back running. You most likely dont like rotary engines because you nothing about them and dont know how to fix them. The reason a lot of people say rotary engines are the most complicated thing to work on, is because they dont know anything about them. When in fact they are actually easier and less complicated to work on than a piston engine.

@shadowchild13B The thing is, the ls1 weighs just as much as a 13b motor. Also, an rx7 with an ls1 swap will have all the power and reliability of a v8, in a small, lightweight, and good handling car.

@pfcrobinson sometimes, my friend, it' doesn't matter what car is faster, I would go for that mazda, even if the cobra is faster, matter of fact, the cobra has a V8, 4.6 DOHC, (I own a '94 mark VIII, same engine), that mazda has no cyllinder (one in rotary motor).. so are you sticking with the mustang?

@DarkHour404 im not a mustang fan but this cobra is alright just too back i dont like their plenums upper and lower they'er shitty i've seen a fuew come to the shop i work at i havent seen many but every single owner that has come to complain bout the same problem idle is fucked up and what not there is no vacumm build up that the idle is way off some ppl tried changing the intake manifold gaskets ect and still the same shit it turned out that the plenums worped so thats what i dont like

wonder whats done to this rx7? cuz if its a stock ls1 hes pushin around 330 to the wheels and that terminator has 500 hp? id be embarrased that a car with 170hp ran less than a car slower to me, and ive always done 40 to 120, when its 120 or 145 whatever you decide to go to is when ya stop. still.... lovin the ls1 rx-7

@392texasred an rx7 with an LS1 is a boatload lighter than an 03-gen cobra in stock form, and I doubt someone would stop at putting a stock ls1 into the RX-7 if they spent the time and money doing the swap in the first place.
