Well, this kid is fantastic, no doubt! At such an early age, he's done very well on a magnificent piece. However, I do have to agree with several below. I don't think he's old enought to understand and appreciate what he's playing. He looks like he got forced into this; look at his face. There's no feeling in this. And of course the intunation is off. But overall? Great job =] Just try to feel it a bit more
very nice performance for a child of 10 years old. I suggest you (if it is possible) recording this part every 10 years then you will see your "precipitation" from your life and music career totally contained in this piece of music. J.S.Bach, no word to discribe his music.
Amazing! What bad intonation? Too early? No way! This is incredible! He's obviously very into the performance. There's absolutely nothing wrong with trying difficult pieces early.
I think the concern in starting a piece like this so young is the develpoement of bad habits. As long as the teacher monitors for this, starting difficult pieces early is a good thing. Music such as this needs years to develop and season before it is ready for the concert stage, so early start is necessary. Bravo Stepan, you are doing many things right.
@alexanderbratsche no matter what age, as long as he feels the music and expresses it through his definition which isn't compatible to anyones but his own, he is and will become an excellent musician.
@ninjalikesweapons I agree with alexanderbratsche, doing this piece like this too early, with lots of tension and tone problems may lead to problems, any professional player needs to develop foremost a refined and relaxed technique.

i really dont care bout playing this at ten years old...yea ill never play though i would want it.....well its not important what you play its how you play it...
really, maybe he should wait a couple years, 3 maybe? He isn't at that level at the moment =/ and the feeling isn't there. The chords aren't smooth and the intonation is way off.
@iamsobored01 I hope you can play it better than him when you were at that age ;) I think for that age thats pretty amazing, and the sound is not good of course because that wasnt the best studio.. try it with an regular recorder
@7multi7 I actually started violin at 12, so no I couldn't. However, I fail to see your point in making that comment. Are you inferring that one must be at least at the same level in order to give criticism? I will commend him for attempting the piece, but like many others including the user, thelightisahead, I believe that he is just too young to be playing such a prestigious piece as the Bach Chaconne. Perhaps you should direct your advice of "try it with an regular recorder" to him

And I haven't, we've all played this piece, or else we won't be watching it, and what do you mean not meant to played that fast? How the hell do you know? You're probably one of those jackasses that comment "I like the original interpretation" on a 300 year old piece of music. You don't know how it's meant to be played, no one does, we all just interpret how we want to.
sembra una macchina (he seems like a robot!). non sono d'accordo col maestro che lo fa esibire cm un topolino (i disapprove of his teacher who makes him play like a little laboratory mouse)
I think any ten year old who can at least cogently attempt to play this is something special! Perhaps best to wait for better maturity, in life and violin playing, before taking Bach seriously into your repertoire, but nothing wrong with trying - he's unafraidly aiming high already, and that's what counts (as long as not at the expense of necessary technical practice etc.!)
..he's 10. how can you expect him to have enough life experience to reflect it in his playing? for what it's worth i think he plays amazingly sensitively for a 10 year old.
Well... it is noticed... For sure you are not a good person and musician. I will block you, for not continuing with this... Good-bye! Administrator of this channel.
Not sure what the rest of you are thinking with all this age-elitism, but at ten years old, this is pretty amazing. Maybe you are right. I think he must start to play little before end east piece for understanding what he play. But it's good work by Teacher. Bravo teacher. But you go wrong way. Impossible listen this music. It's my personal opinion.
I agree ajnilles on this one, a person should reach a maturity age in their personality as well as their playing ability before they should play a number of peices, and this is certainly a big... this peice should be graceful and beautiful, and it must express the players soul... and I have to say a such a young age a person really doesn't have one. Work on the interpertation, too many drastic changes in dynamic, makes me cringe...
What counts is not the absolute age, but the time/years actually spent practicing and performing (relative age). This boy has a hard time reaching the third finger in first position. He does have a good bow hand, though; and he interprets the piece with gusto. But there are so many out of tune notes to the trained ear... I think the violin is too big for his left hand. Which would explain why his bow hand is much more advanced than his left.
bravo! idk what u guys r saying. this kid has talent for his age. but sorry to say hes not a child prodigy. but that said. it doesnt mean he cant triumph in the world of music. bravo again!
This kid has so much dimension and musical character, Usually when it comes to prodigies, they have perfect technique but no feeling or emotion towards the music. This kid is the opposite. His technique isn't perfect, but hey, he's 10, he has time. Something i wish i had.. lol. But more importantly, he has spirit and a soul for music, something no amount of IQ points can equal.
Stepan - I have played this piece many times on classical guitar and baroque lute, and have listened to it hundreds of times on guitar, lute and original violin. I think your interpretation captures the grave and legatto style it is meant to be in - I would slow down the scale and arpeggio runs because the legatto does get lost a bit. But for your age, you capture the serious-minded feel this piece is supposed to have pretty well and commendations to you.
try and perfecting some of these before moving on to the really hard stuff. You are very talented and i think you would benefit from slowing down a bit. you are an inspiration.
poman265 what are you talking about? beyond his level? I'd say he's playing it pretty darn well, with a lot of maturity and thought. and what do you mean you can stop learning technique? you can always learn technique. that makes absolutely no sense. And please don't bring up the "does he look happy?". When you play the violin, the goal is not to "look happy", it's to play the violin. Heifetz, Oistrakh, Hilary Hahn, many violinist don't "look happy" when they play.
poman you have no basis for your comments. if he sounds like he listened to a recording and copied a recording's phrasing, would you care to tell me which recordings he copied? If not, then there is absolutely no way you could know if he did. I don't really see how it is "obvious" that he is being forced. Once again, I should point out that he just because he doesn't "look happy" when he plays doesn't mean a single thing. The majority of violinists don't look happy when they play
um... i don't know why that is pertinent to my response or to his playing, but no i have not seen his sister... i think you should stop bashing his playing and speculating about his parents' upbringing of him, which is rather foolish.
So true. Way to be. What if the song is a sad song or something do you want to look happy? and if not how is that of indicator of whether he enjoys what he's doing? If he's doing this well I think it's more than him being forced to play
It always makes me laugh when I see that people say that they played this piece as the age of 10! This kid is exceptional! I have been playing for over 20 years and I syill wouldn't perform this piece.... in fact live performances of this piece are rare... only because it is so difficult... if you lose it playing the chaconne there is no recovery! Lets show this kid some respect.... he will indeed be the next Heifetz!
ur bach partita isnt perfect..and youre playing paganini?...even though ur paganini caprices arent that bad..youre not ready for his caprices yet...but if u do them for fun like i do i respect that. cuz im not ready for them lol
violaplayer1995, get lost u!!! Shut up!!! The Stepan is the best 11-years old violin player! I'm not better [im 15 y. old], and u also sure too! He's got TALENT and he's playing with emotions!
I played that piece before when I was 10; very hard piece yet this boy is very talented in playing the base notes of the chords and double stops. Excellent job!
It is true some notes are forced, and intonation is not perfect yet. But I agree with Cath...there is much maturity...when his (amazing) technique catches up to his level of emotional playing, and he has more life experiences, he will soar to the highest heights.
Excellent performance of what is a very technically demanding piece. What has impressed me more than anything is the maturity in this performance, something that you don't see often in performers of such a young age, although some notes are rather forced.
so amazing !

Which would explain why his bow hand is much more advanced than his left.

teachmaster, you are right. he's not playing a happy piece, so why should he look happy? while playing partita no.3 he's laughing the most time...

This kid is great!! Great intonation, great tempo, and the dynamics are great(fortissimo, pianissimo, etc.). Keep rockin' on that violin!!

bravo! idk what u guys r saying. this kid has talent for his age. but sorry to say hes not a child prodigy. but that said. it doesnt mean he cant triumph in the world of music. bravo again!
violaplayer1995 4 years ago

But for your age, you capture the serious-minded feel this piece is supposed to have pretty well and commendations to you.
tinargimon 4 years ago
try and perfecting some of these before moving on to the really hard stuff. You are very talented and i think you would benefit from slowing down a bit. you are an inspiration.

stop giving your kid these pieces that are way beyond his level!
you can never stop learning those pieces, but you can stop learning technique!
once he is past 17...
poman265 4 years ago
poman265 what are you talking about? beyond his level? I'd say he's playing it pretty darn well, with a lot of maturity and thought. and what do you mean you can stop learning technique? you can always learn technique. that makes absolutely no sense. And please don't bring up the "does he look happy?". When you play the violin, the goal is not to "look happy", it's to play the violin. Heifetz, Oistrakh, Hilary Hahn, many violinist don't "look happy" when they play.
thechernmaster 4 years ago
It's obvious that he is being forced
it sounds like he listened to a recording and copied the recording phrases.
poman265 4 years ago
poman you have no basis for your comments. if he sounds like he listened to a recording and copied a recording's phrasing, would you care to tell me which recordings he copied? If not, then there is absolutely no way you could know if he did. I don't really see how it is "obvious" that he is being forced. Once again, I should point out that he just because he doesn't "look happy" when he plays doesn't mean a single thing. The majority of violinists don't look happy when they play
thechernmaster 4 years ago
have you seen his sister
poman265 4 years ago
um... i don't know why that is pertinent to my response or to his playing, but no i have not seen his sister... i think you should stop bashing his playing and speculating about his parents' upbringing of him, which is rather foolish.
thechernmaster 4 years ago
So true.

Violinchick 4 years ago
Excellent performance of what is a very technically demanding piece. What has impressed me more than anything is the maturity in this performance, something that you don't see often in performers of such a young age, although some notes are rather forced.
