The Zepplin loop is far superior to the bowline, and the Zepplin Bend is best bend for tying two lines - far superior to a Sheet bend or any other bend. It's as close to the perfect bend and loop as it gets.
@kevjay777 In what way is the Zeppelin Loop superior? It can't be tied one handed (the point of this) and is much more complex. I use bowlines all the time and can't think of a better way to do it.
I don't think we were talking about bends in this context.
That is good instruction! However, if you are in the boating world, just get the ez CLEAT, with the ez LOOP on the end. Makes tying up your boat fast, clean and easy. Plus, you don't have to learn any of those crazy knots!!! Great for the whole family.
Some of my scouts can only tie a bowline this way. Useless if you are tying a rope to an anchor. ha-ha. sorry. If you miniature-ize this method and curl the long end (the tree) around the end (the rabbit) then flip the rabbit around the tree and pull the rabbit back into the hole you can tie a real bowline in about 3 seconds with a liitle practice. Also works for a sheet bend
I was a sea explorer when I was younger and have been around boats my entire life so watching anyone wrap a line around them self intentionally makes me flinch :-) The ONLY time I'd do this if it was a rescue situation and you needed to be lifted. A double french bowline would be better for that, though... Not sure if you can tie one of those with one hand :-)
Neat way to tie the knot though - good job. Check out the "Flying Bowline" - takes two hands but less than 2 seconds.
Make the tails a bit longer
