  • i am from somalia and i love kenya so much. kenya is the best east africa. i have been living almost 10 years which i loved so much. my dream is to go back one day inshallah. i love kenya

  • However I will say that Kenyans from Mombasa and Lamu can speak Swahili better than some Tanzanians, including myself. I have to step my game up. lol.

  • I love my fellow Kenyan neighbors to the north, but they have truly looked down on Swahili as a secondary language. That is not good considering they consider themselves mighty because they speak English more and better than we Tanzanians do. However, it is rather sad to see that they are only proving to be an unfortunate case of colonialism. Embrace Swahili. It is a beautiful language. I want to be able to communicate with you guys. I don't understand Sheng.

  • Na hii Mbulenda Mulinya kwanini hapana sungumuza na kiswahili yeye. Hii ndio shinda hapa Kwetu Kenya

  • Maze sheng ina comingi proper senye una say kitu utaki mbuyu understandako. I never passed kiswahili in school but was born speaking it lol i dont understand how ime camu to kua ivo. ATI BALLGAMU??? lol cant stop lol..ing...huyo beste ame try. eeiii lakini iyo bro from kisumu ana zi drop...i had to watch 3 times kui COMPREHENDINGI.

    SHENG FOREVER FORGET TZ SWAHILI

  • We should never allow Kiswahili to be made optional or to be banned. We must promote is as a symbol of national and regional unity, and as a show of pride in our African heritage.

Exactly what are the reasons to want Kiswahili to be optional???

  • ati ballgamu?! that is sooo funny. hata mimi sikuwa danda hivyo! that has made my day.

  • Thats a good one brenda, ballgamu, how else would you call it?

  • KISWAHILI KITUKUZWE!!

  • ballgamu!!!! kiboko iwake

  • @nyege2: Right now Jamaica is not a good example. Swahili sub-groups borrowed words from literally all languages/dialects that crossed their trade routes u will be surprised Kiswahili has very few arabic words...it is religion that overwhelms their culture! Just because my grandma is a Christian does not follow she is a Jew or speaks Latin.

  • It seems that anybody in a position of authority in Kenya is working day and night to steal as much as possible and to push the country back. Sasa hii ni nini? I know tens of europeans who are learning Kiswahili while we think it is a backwards language, BTW that mwalimu should have said "matumizi" not "utumishi"

  • in school i was always being punished for not speaking english in school. it was a crime if you were caught kiswahili. the media should help spread swahili and make it popular starting with brenda here doing her commentary in swahili like she used to a while ago.

  • @K;Yeah I would love to listen to her report in Swahili, once in a while to break the Queen's €€€ monologue.

  • The one issue I have with sheng is it evolves daily...it lacks consistent. Kiswahili has a backbone and well it can borrow new words, alter them to suit it. Without a language Kenya is doomed to fail socially! This shouldn't even be an issue, we are so pathetic!

  • Hahahaha ... That fellow in Kisumu is spitting some serious sheng ... Ni hizo ngoma za Kenya that imefundisha wasee sheng like crazy ....

  • i hated kiswahili.....firstly because i was forced with it in school and it wouldnt help me nowhere ...but it should still be taught but not making the pupils underpressure.i was beaten like hell because swa was my second language and luo was my mothertongue so it was hard 4 me haha

  • hate it if you want but it is still lugha ya taifa, keep loving the foreign colonialistic languages

  • @K yu noticed how proud the Western Africans speak their languages out here? Yu can never shut them up...proud and they don't care who is staring or gaping! I can't even understand Kenyans ni twanging here..they sound like Jim Browns until they show their faces..Ughh!

  • me too i dont understand our people, i do meet some who even if you speak to them in swa will respond in english with a hip hop twang. what kenyans don't realise is that we have a beautiful language that is recognised and loved world over.

  • i didnt say i hate swahili..i hated it read twice next tym before u reply to me. When will we move on and see,to make Kenya better we have to learn kiswahili but shouldnt be tested on it. English is universal so its very important. In TZ, they are taught in swa and i know a trainee TZ doctor who found it very difficult to study medicine in U.K so there is no way you can trade with the 'colonialists' as u say it, with swa.just open ur mind and stop blaming the colonialists for ppl nt speakin swa.

  • @karuitha Kenyans are white brainwashed. Thats why Germans wanaleta Mbwa zao vacations Kenya kutomba wakenya wanawake

  • no one is doing away with kiswahili its only being made optional. it doesnt help anyonei support tht move coz the swa ii learnt didnt help me a bit

  • u been brainwashed

  • its optional exactly ...that fool who replied to me and 2 u is the one who is brainwashed.

  • The idea of removing Kiswahili from the carriculum is horrible to say the least. I don't know how Kenyans can even entertain such a suggestion. What then will be the language of communication amongst the 40 plus ethnic communities in Kenya? English? Or are we trying to ensure that we're completely without instruments of national unification and remain forever divided along ethnic lines.

  • Maybe Brenda Mulinya could be right because we used standardized Unguja Kiswahili instead of Kimvita that is widely used at the coast. But the language is in Kenya to stay because there is no medium to communicate amongest tribes. That is the bitter truth. Sheng is now and emerging language that should also be standardized and be examinable. Kibaki uses it, so is Raila and others and so the guy is Kisumu is using the now popular lingua franca

  • Brenda Mulinya is always flat footed. Kiswahili is struggling for survival in Kenya? Students have to pass it. Mps have to pass the language consider how Gideon Moi had to be tutored in the language. Languages keep changing after an average of 25 years. That is why Aramaic is no longer used widely in the middle east. But Kis should remain examinable to our students. Did I hear right? the teacher talks of utumishi which means service instead of utumizi which means use.

  • Only in Kenya do we kill what we should actually be fighting to revive...what a shame.

  • @Flaviahob 100% suport. Look at Kenyans abroad too. Our kids dont even speak our tribal languages let alone kiswahili. I know one Kenyan family they only speak English even among the parents dispite the parents are all Wakambas.
