right now my family is using a 1979 Kenmore electric dryer. That thing is 33 years old and runs as good as it did the day my parents purchased it in 1979 when I was in jr. high school. dryers will last if you take care of them> I have had to replace the belts and thermal cutouts for the heating element and thats been about it.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! We used to have one of these. I am not sure, but it was either a 1955 or 1956, and it was in our 2-car+ garage. We had a Bendix Economat washer at the time. Mom, Grandma, and I all helped wring-out the clothes before they went into the Filtrator. Gotta love the old Frigidaires!
Very interesting Video. My family had a 1954 Frigidaire filtrator dryer. which my parents purchased in 1966 when I was an infant. The dryer continued working until 1976 until someone left a screwdriver in their pocket and the end of if went through the perforations in the drum and stopped the drum from turning and a small fire occured shortly thereafter. After that, they got a kenmore which my folks still use to this day. Brings back memories seeing that video.
This is interesting. Ive seen vintage ads for these dryers but i have never seen one in action.Could you show more of the unit if you get a chance Thanks.

Sad thing is a modern dryer will only last 5-8 years. The old ones were built to last decades.

Hello Eddy,
Really cool dryer! Does it run on 110 or 220? did they even have 220 back then?

Yes, it runs on 220 and it gets pretty hot. But it does a nice job of fluffing clothes up and leaving them smelling beautiful.

Yeah I don't get excited about dryers either, but I just love my 55 Filtrator too!
