Saw him open for the STONES back in 1980-81, hell I'm getting old can't even remember. Prince opened and was boo'ed off stage. People were throwing everything they could find at him, then george, J-Geils,finally the stones. But old George rocked the house. this was in LA.
Ok, great song, love George's music, but what the FUCK is the lady in the red dress at the front doing, looks like she's about to shit a cow. The rest of the crowd too, for that matter. Damn.
@68MrZeppelin It's called getting into the music, which unfortunately doesn't happen anymore thanks to pre-programmed " beats " and no actual instruments
Germans are so hilarious. This is the same year I lived there. It's like they take "liking cool American music" to an ueber-competitive level! "Look at me...I like ziss muzyk besser als du! See how I am grooving on it in my frantic-yet-non-rhyzmik way?! Nein, I am into ze muzyk more zan you!!" How sad that, since that time, the competition to like Amerika more than the next German has flipped to being a country full of socialists, skin-heads, a nazi-cops. Yes, Nazi cops.
In the liner notes of their greatest (baddest) hits he says,
"I can understand someone writing about John Lee Hooker, James Brown or the Beatles—people who've made an incredible impact on rock history. But the Destroyers? We're like a burger joint!" He thought about that and then amended what he said with, "Then again, there's nothing wrong with selling cheeseburgers as long as they're quality cheeseburgers...And that's the way I think of us."
I saw him in 84 at Vets Memorial in Columbus, Ohio. He played with no warm up band no special effects just him, Bass, Drummer and Sax. Played for 2.5 hours, took a 15 minute break and came back and played for 1 more hour. Changed my life forever. This man can play with anyone. They don't make em that anymore. Pure Rock and Roll.
@jj4now Sounds like the bestest of shows. A friend in college got me hooked on The Delaware Destroyers in 1978. I thought it was cool that his hit song that year was something Hank Williams wrote. WooHoo!
@jj4now Fucking awesome, I saw Primus at a little venue in Atlanta, same thing, no opening band just 1.5 hours of bassey goodness, and fifteen minute intermission and then the entire "Sailing the Seas of Cheese album".
one of the most underrated guitar players ever...i would love to read an artical on him in a guitar world magazine!...great music and a great guitar player!

Guys, this man is 60 years old and he rocked the place like I've never seen before. From far the best rock concert I've ever been to! The energy he was transmitting to the crowd was unreal. He performed for more than 2 hours and each song was better than the other! As time was passing, it was getting better and better.
All my respect to George Thorogood for still keeping blues rock'n roll alive and kicking today! A true legend!
Damn! This is exactly what the music of today needs! A little bit of bourbon, scotch and beer. Might get rid of some of the shitty music that's out there at the moment.
@MrStormy29w I'm Latino, grew up all over, and I rocked hard to this dude's music for a long time 20 years ago!!! Now that I see him rockin, rockin live, shit, I realize that George was truly THE MAN!!!!! I use'd to throw parties while I was stationed in Texas. I had a blender, a small boom box and George Thorogood playing ALL NIGHT LONG! Nobody complained!!! Lot of people felt good and did good things if you know what I meeeeaaaaannnnn!!!!!
@SuRihtanil yeah but hendrix only covered "all along the watch tower" but which version would you rather hear? at least you know the facts tho so props
It just can not and will not get better than this. I was 14 when I first saw George. I wish I was able to have seen him on South street ( in philly) Back in th late 70's. HE IS THE BEST!!!!
I saw Lonesome George around 1990 when he opened for the Allmans. He was playing at least 1/2 hour before the show was scheduled, already jamming. He was incredible. Around the time the show was scheduled to begin, he finally said something like, "let's start the show." It doesn't get any better...
I heard from some guys who was with him that he walks the walk. He gets wasted and doesn't give a shit about nothing. That counts for something for me. He doesn't just sing about it. He really does it. They said he smelled bad too. Just like me-drunk at 9 in the morning.
