  • RESPECTFULLY speaking.....(and i'll leave the indications givin as many have already mentioned) im just curious of the pump rpm's I HOPE the idle'n pump we hear isnt charging the line at side A

  • great video

  • nice video... but maybe you should werar your hoods and masks so you dont melt your face off when the fire does flashover. and by looking at the smoke it was obvious this fire would flash without some fast conversion. be safe guys

  • whats the name of that song in the beginning

  • probably was a person who used to be a member and was thrown out for non productiveness. In other words a fucking bum!!!!

  • TheHickupp, your a fag. firefighters also run medical calls. I hope your dumbass does have a heart attack and need us lazy firefighters. FAG

  • So was the house was saved....? Why do these losers even bother getting all the trucks and hoses out? Guess it's so they can all play hero! Get used to it Mr Firemen, quite a lot of us recognise you do little all day in the station except snore. When the bell rings you all hope you'll "rescue" someone. Never seen that happen yet. Try looking for cats up trees.

  • @TheHickupp wow...that's kinda harsh don't you think....maybe they're not busy all of the time but when they are, their jobs can be life-threatening...also...they have to or should put out the fire so it doesn't cause the surrounding structures to catch on fire...why do you hate firefighters???

  • watchin any fire ground video is a way to learn things. every fire is different, so to sit here at my computer and point out stuff that goes wrong just dont seem right to me. im sure or atleast hope that they critiqued this fire. glad everyone went home safe. god bless

  • Gosh, the evac tones give me chills everytime i hear them. Thank god i've never heard them at a working fire, just on videos. Glad everybody made it out. That was a very scary flashover.

  • Yeah these boys here have a god reputation in the state, NY FF, different breed!

  • nothing like Long Island FFs. we rock the shit all the time. These guys are good tho. I,ll give em that

  • Have to agree with previous posters, a flashover was imminent, the smoke was giving the telltale signs (increased velocity/change of colour) but the chief did not seem to notice it. The entry crew were very lucky they weren't cooked by that flashover

  • There very lucky nobody was killed. whats the point of having on your scba without the mask.

  • they were pretty calm when saying, everyone out, and not going into absolute panic mode. BTW, what's with the guy who probably lives next store to the left. Didn't he think it wouldn't be too good an idea to be so close to flames shooting out the window?

  • People like him are the reason why there's an extra 2-3 dead bodies at incidents.

    BOOOOM!!!!!!!

"Uh hey Martha theirs a whole bunch of fire and smoke coming from that building..I'm gonna go have a closer look"

  • OK, enough bashing the on scene guys or department. What we should learn from this video is a house is a CONTAINER. The container can only absorb so much heat/smoke and then banks down. The color, volume and velocity is screaming flashover. 1st floor ventilation only expedited the event. Fuel waiting to flash is too rich looking for fresh air to lean out the mixture. The vent profile should have started from the ROOF, if unable then attic window, 2nd floor windows then lastly 1st floor windows.

  • I am a Junior Firefighter, and I can even tell when a partially involved house is heading for a flashover. Im in the NLFD. I have a question? Why did the hit the horn. In my district that is a signal 100, which means evacuate scene/bldg and sound all horns/sirens.

  • Many departments will do that for those inside the structure. It's to let every one know to get the fuck out of the house asap.

  • my department will lay on the air horns for about 10 seconds

  • Someone needs to address their policy on PPE's. Half the people in the IDLH were not wearing BA's. They are lucky nobody was killed. I'll bet some of them have a few less nose hairs after that flash.

  • Just FYI, this was in October 1997 - about a block down the street from me! A little kid started a fire cooking something, and basically toasted the whole house...

Also FYI - the MFD is a fine one, an interesting hybrid of volunteers and Paid drivers....a lot of antagonism between the two sometimes...

  • It's departments like that that get fireman hurt and killed.

  • Man, Id of been pulsing/fogging into thoses front windows the moment I had water in the hose. They guy breaking the window basically fed that flashover lol.

  • learn to read smoke and evaluate conditions. learn how to ventilate horizontally. they got alot of heart but no training to go with it.

  • Think about it. Heavy fire in the rear of the house with heavy pushing smoke coming out the front. Obviously, this fire has a big headway on the firefighters and was just a matter of time before the fire flashed throughout the lower level.

  • just not that bright, are they

  • how many idiots running naround w/o scba....glad I'm not on that dept.

  • where is that in m town?

  • Doesn't anyone pay attention to the smoke color and intensity or haven't they toke the class on smoke ready!

  • i know a song name but thx ...

  • song name please :|

  • I hope none of our brothers or sisters were hurt in this. Stay safe out there!

  • The sound of the airhorns going off is another way of saying get the !@#$ out lol

  • in some cases it also means get the fuck away too

  • Very cool....Thanks for posting!

  • wow pink flames!

  • could see the smoke rolling along with the gas in it.....ouch so near!!!!

  • Is that a volunteer company or pro? Seems like poor leadership. Which can often happen in either side of firefighting.

  • WTF does that have to do with anything? And i'm sure you meant VOLUNTEER or career? All firemen are professionals. DICK!

  • Yes because the word professional does not mean paid. Hmm, and I am also impressed with your vocabulary. Not all firefighters are professional. If you could come up with better words then 4 letter ones.

  • Could see that flashover coming from the beginning of the video. Venting before the hoseline is ready is just asking for a flashover.

  • Why is it that we risk firefighters' lives to save flippin' furniture. Those smoke conditions clearly indicated that flashover was imminent. READ THE SMOKE.

  • In another post someone suggested that this crew thought someone was inside. Looking at the smoke conditions and subsequent flashover, what was the rescue profile??? Do ya think there's a viable victim in there??? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The smoke conditions preceeding the flashover made it pretty obvious that a flashover was about to take place. Smoke Volume: tremendous, Smoke Density: Very dense, Color: Dark Black, Velocity: Very Fast and Turbulent (sign of exothermic change--house no longer absorbing heat but reflecting it)

YOU MUST READ YOUR SMOKE CONDITIONS!

  • hEY WHATS IT LIKE TO BE ABLE TO READ THE FUTURE?? Monday morning quarterback

  • OMFG 51 seconds in the vid the chief picks up a line!!!!

  • I wonder if there was a company inside hitting it with water. Maybe that flashover would not had happend.....but I was not there. Anyway fire is out and all went home...that is a good thing

  • I'll like the civilians standing in the front yard. Crowd control???

  • Great song and a good vid. I would have had the ladder truck hitting it.

  • To bad Kentland Rescue Engine 33 isnt in New York....or did it respond from Maryland all the way to Middletown NY?

  • All members of the public, firefighters, and emergency personnel-The `establishment` has failed in their duty to tell you of this.. Google paddyanddollydotnet and read FIREBURN MEDIA ALERT, tell all your friends and keep that number in your back pocket 24 hours a day.

  • That is some scary sh!t

  • i have studyed this fire in my classes and what happened was they did think someone was in there and they rushed it, they were also having pump problems as well, as for setting up a master stream at the door, what if there is an obstruction? or somthing that stops or deflects your stream 10 feet in?

  • GET SUM!!!!!!!

  • Ahhh... the "lights and Siren" crowd strikes again.... I love when firefighters try to become video directors... heh.

Firefighting technology simply doesn't advance as many linear technologies do... Some cities are using fire drapes etc. whereas most still use small capacity water system, manual ventilation etc.

I'm no firefigter but could easily see what was about to happen: Go figure...

  • dude don't listen to em great video try watch?v=NGWW-ZDrh3E&mode=related&search=

  • Middletown -- why not introduce the concept of Blitz attack? Just position a master stream nozzle at the front door, open up using the 1,000 gallons of water aboard the engine -- and voila -- you've cooled the fire down considerably and there won't be a flashover.

    Just an idea!

  • was there any danger of getting some water on the house??

  • No good if you think there's still someone in there as this crew clearly did. They wouldn't have risked going in at all otherwise, just doused the building from the outside or let it burn down

  • how about a par

  • so what are you saying, they didnt know how to fight fires 15 years ago i beg to differ think they just got sucked in to quick, thought someone was inside and rushed, nomal human reaction thats the way it looks to me

  • What song is this playing on the video? Thanks. Cool video btw.

  • Well that is my fire dept. I see alot of the guys I know in that video including myself. If you have any questions please contact me. I would like to know if you have more footage of that fire.

  • where are ya in it?

  • This video from Middletown is about 15-20 years old. It has been used as a training video by my fire training center for many years on what not to do when ventilating.

  • Awesome video as always pump -
