It takes two to fight and it was pretty obvious that Maia wasn't going to do anything. Silva is a counter striker and if he has nothing to counter then whats he supposed to do. I think Sonnen has a better chance of upsetting Anderson than any opponent he has faced in a long time. @peterwo2e You're right to a degree, but Dana's concern is to make people interested in UFC, if Silva's behaviour continues then he won't be able to sell his fights and thus he'll need to drop him. Silva knows full well that Dana doesn't want to see him take his skill elsewhere so he believes that he can jerk around for a few fights, then when he is in trouble with the boss destroy someone (Griffin and probably Sonnen) then repeat.

The UFC offered Fedor a 6 fight, 30 million dollar contract. That's 5 mil a fight The UFC offered Fedor an immediate title shot.
Lesnar/Fedor would be the biggest PPV in MMA history (we assume), and the UFC offered M-1 Global a cut of the PPV on top of Fedor's purse.
Fedor was free to wear as many M-1 logoed items as he wished.
The UFC also relented on allowing Fedor to compete in combat sambo.

It takes two to fight and it was pretty obvious that Maia wasn't going to do anything. Silva is a counter striker and if he has nothing to counter then whats he supposed to do. He tried to provoke him but Maia was too "smart" for that. He'd prefer to just stand there and take the occasional kick (much better choice). Stop feeding him scraps and give him GSP, there's no chance Silva would pull that stuff on GSP and also no chance GSP would be dumb enough to stand there and take it.
