Some quite miraculous tunes like "Depuis le jour" always have a way of making one sit up. Such is this remarkable rendering by Lucia Popp. She challenges the best; but for those who really really appreciate this number, might I modestly suggest the spectacular rendering by Ninnon Vallin : in my view she is the pearl who best adorns this wonderful aria!
I love the tempo, actually. Sounds like a 19 year old, for a change. And it becomes more about the feeling and less about the vocal achievement. A Selfless Artist.
Another lovely version of this aria -- almost anyone can sing it (if not; back to your teacher!!) Not one of the great versions, but that voice makes up for it!
@Glenmed What amazes me most is the delicacy with which she attacks the top notes, instead of just belting them out.....and what she does at 3:25 iwith that emotional crescendo is truly magical!
dans les aigûs c' est vraiment la pureté et l éclat d" un chant d' oiseau..comme celui d un canari ....voix somptueuse...

mon dieu, quelle horreur. plein d'erreurs d'articulation et d'irrégularités vocales.

Superb . She and Dorothy Maynor are the heavenly interpreters of this aria.

@sueellendavis what about ninon vallin or grace moore?i heard grace moore was tutored by the composer himself.

she could sing some..eh what? A lesser star but a crystal voice, perfect mostly and sang for the conductor and left herself behind.

Oh my God, so gorgeous. Thank you for putting this up. It is a bit fast, I agree, but man oh man oh man, was she ever exquisite.

What a beautiful rendition! Her pianissimo crescendo at the end was absolutely perfectly masterful! Bravissima!

We experience ecstasy so very few times in our lives but when we do this is the music to go with it and the singer par excellance!!!

Damn that's fast! It's shaved off a good 90-100 seconds from normal renditions of other sopranos. But I love Lucia Popp in anything she sings anyway!
