  • so that was his secret >:( thanks for the video

  • thats great.... love the shitty recording this is how i like afi

  • This is the closest AFI will ever get to ska lol, not bad though. I'm guessing the police cover was adam's idea

  • @canesrule96 definitely haha i forgot where i read it but davey said they hated the ska-punk scene in the bay haha

  • @blacksheeps209 I dislike it too. Ever been to a ska show? The fans skip in a circle during the whole concert. And there's way too many upstrokes lol

  • Sry wrote ur name wrong. Forgive me. :-/

  • @EpilipsonX

    Oh I like jade better

  • Where's jade? :-(

  • @vampchick788 he didn't join the band until later

  • sometimes it's better to just leave empty space

  • i cracked this cd and it still worked perfectly for four years. then i straight lost it.

  • Respectable cover of my favorite Police song :)

  • Hehehe I know something I wont tell, I wont tell, I wont tell.....

  • AFI =)

  • dude, this is so random, coming from then. awesome. :D. this must be old school, haha :P

  • it's just the vinyl version probably ripped and recorded onto a computer with ghetto stuff.

the cd version sounds like the rest of the album.

  • this song is on the wingnut records cd of answer thatand stay fashioable, but that particular album doesnt have open your eyes, man in a suitcase is a hidden track several minutes after high school football herp. The nitro records release of answer that and stay fashionable doesnt have the hidden track

  • i had this album. too bad this was only on the vinyl :/

  • I miss the old AFI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • $100 says this was Adams idea

  • Never heard of them but I thought this was quite a cool version even if I do prefer the original

  • The Police (Original) version is mooooooooooooore mooooooooooooooore better

    ; )

  • i actually have the wingnut records version of the cd. its on there.

  • Well, I think they were called Anthems for In-subordinates back in the early 90's then Dave got more comfortable with the band, so they began calling themselves A Fire Inside when Shut Up and Open Your Eyes came out in 97'.

  • That dosnt even sound like Davey singing

  • @MrMikespec but it does, lol.. his voice has matured over the years, but you definitely tell it's him here if you take into account his general sound at this earlier period in his AFI career... always breathtakingly Davey-like xD

  • I NEED to get this on vinyl now!

  • @Shinobi1010 lol word!

  • 2:05 - 2:25 is my favorite part. =) Afi forever!

  • its the police!!!!!

  • NOT BAD!

  • It almost sounds like his voice is cracking, but I really like it. It adds so much to the song, I haven't even heard the orignial, but I love this cover. Love the ending..."Fuck this shit, no one is gonna hear this anyway".

  • That bastard knew and wouldn't tell me there was a hidden track.

  • this is so......ska

  • It was definitely Asking For IT i was like 14 when this came out and i was all into punk and skating it was never a fire inside till they got shitty lol

  • AFI once stood for Asking For It! (extended)

    watch?v=_wSItjicB8I

  • @bobokk it was called anthems for insubordinates. its written on the bak of answer that and stay fashionable in small print.

  • watch the video - the band say it themselves

  • hmm, this is a really good song. <3

  • i love davey's hair...

  • it has always been a fire inside. i think they just liked to have fun screwin it and saying stuff like asking for it and anthems for insubordinants. but yeah, its a fire inside. or could it possibly be... a finger inside???

  • screwin WITH** it sorry

  • they were called asking for it. theres an early interview somewhere where they say so

  • no see thats what i mean i personally think that they just say that even in the interviews to screw with us lol

  • It's an early interview and they weren't joking

  • this. is the. most. KICKASS AFI song ever!! hahaha i looove it!!!

  • not sure how anyone can judge the guitar tone with the sound quality the way it is... anyway, cool song

  • it was also on the wingnut cd release, on the nitro cd it just says "some folks are lucky and some aint" then cuts off. i have the wingnut cd

  • it songs like the amp is messed up

  • it was recorded in a cheap studio, on used tape.

    what do you expect?

  • @almightyseancore And even then it kicksass

  • @almightyseancore I like the sound of it though, I think it wouldn't be as good in a pro studio, XD

  • guitar sounds shit

  • that's what happends when you try playing ska with bad overdrive setting

  • "no one's gonna listen to this anyway"

    haha

  • the sound quality is horrid lol

  • why dont they play like this anymore. *sigh*

  • what is the song which has the video where dave is in the trunk of a car

  • AFI - He Who Laughs Last

    =]

  • thenks so the three x's are for straightedgers eh? im edge and i judt learned that

  • haha the x's are just randomly there, I'm pretty sure its just one x

    =]

  • sometimes its 3 because of the drummer of minor threat

  • Oh okay, I did not know that xP

  • its kool man

  • because of the drummer? i thought it was because of Ian who made a parody of the DC flag,

    if you have more info...

    peace

    xanthox

  • nope dude ian's drummer made the flag

  • wow spell check..*thanks..*just

  • Yea it was "Asking For It" at first for sure. And it was a Hardcore band! I love this song dude

  • Damn it! I got one of the new ones that doesn't have this. It has the creepy thing saying "I KNOW SOMETHING I WON'T TELL" and then it cuts to someone saying "And I'm real sad about that-but some fella's are lucky, and some aint!"

It says that on the back of the CD, explaining that the CD doesn't have Key Lime Pie or Self Pity. Damn

  • Self-Pity and Key Lime Pie are both from the Venal. To get this song, you have to re-wind the whole album. Kind of like if you re wind Very Proud of Ya you get No Dave Party. If you want the self-pity and Key Lime Pie mp3's, I have them. i could give them to you if you want. AFI FTW

  • I rewound it, and nothing happened. Is that only possible if you have the record? I've got the CD.

  • Record only. I have the mp3 though. If you really want the song.

  • Nah, thanks though. So, No Dave Party is only on the record too?

  • Yeah. Rewind he who laughs last from very proud of ya and you get It

  • No dave party is on my cd. when its doing that load thing when you first clost the cover i pause it and pauses at 0 and then i press paly and it plays it. or just hold rewind.

  • I got Very Proud of Ya since then, and I don't even have to do that to get No Davey Party. It just starts out as track 1

  • thats odd... mines pretty old though, and all cd players are different :?

  • could you send me it?

    please?

  • yeah, sure. send me a message with your email address and i'll get you the mp3.

  • Talk about ruining a good song...

  • this hidden track is actually on the cd

theres another cd, very proud of ya, where if you rewind backwards from track one youll find a secret track

this song is howver like 45 minutes after the last song, id always leave my cd playing and fall asleep and that weirdos voice in the beginning would scare the shit outa me

  • It was never Asking For It...holy crap, idk..It was ALWAYS A Fire Inside..WTF???

  • thissecretninja337 has a video of davey in 98 saying it was asking for it. they changed it when jade joined.

  • I love this album, I think it was their best work, and I happen to be huge police fan as well, so this song is awesome.

  • now this is when AFI was good what happend?

  • I agree with random oatmeal that the guitar has waaaay to much distortion. This cover is catchy but it isn't really good.

  • I respect their musical influences as they are a good band being they are professional. I'm not particularly fond of this version but this is a good post. Cheers!

  • if they had continued the way of ska they could have been a ska band now instead ther emo thing

  • Ska's dead. . . New AFI can eat a bag of dicks, but Ska is desperate.

  • afi really could've pulled off a ska sound. to bad Davey doesn't like ska. haha

  • Only thing Davey likes is dicks. He's a cockgobbler and a half sellout piece of shit now. New AFI for the lose.

  • your an idiot. appreaciate what they have done anyway!

    they're amazing!

  • They are far from emo

And even though they are currently a very mainstream band

They still carve their own sound

I have never heard any band that sounds remotely like them

  • Meh, whatever. To each his own. Everyone has their own opinion.

  • @AFIownage If you haven't heard a band that sounds anything like them then you obviously dont listen to music. They still kick ass though

  • Im with you on that old AFI is good shit but man this new shit is like fuck dude.. they should have changed the bands name if they were going to put out such crap

  • they did change the bands name sorta it used to be antem for insubordinate snow its a fire inside

  • Really? I could have sworn is was Asking For It

  • They did, they changed their name when they released Sing the Sorrow if I'm not mistaken. Maybe a bit earlier. It's still AFI, just a new A, F and I

  • what is it now?

  • A Fire Inside

  • ah.

  • it was always a fire inside but they liked to mess around with the name

  • It was originally Asking For It. Now it's A Fire Inside. They changed it in '98 when they recorded the A Fire Inside EP.

  • they actually never changed it, before it was public information that it was a fire inside people made the assumption it was asking for it, this song is also on the regular album its a hidden track after highschool foot ball hero

  • Whoops. I always thought it was Asking for It. Oh well. I never actually took the time to find the hidden track, explains why I haven't heard this.

  • Actually, it didn't make it to the CD, so most people don't have it. It is only on the vinyl.

  • I have a randomly 15 minute long "High School Football Hero" then. I checked and it's not in there.

  • its on the original release of the album on Wingnut Records before they got signed to Nitro...

  • @AFIownage The beginning part is at the very end of Highschool Football Hero, but you hear a vinyl scratch which cuts the song off.

  • @BILLETH YEAH

  • @Claytonian15 maybe they are sellouts now. but they are still very underrated. and the only other people that like them are teeneyboppers and scene kids. if scene kids made them sell outs them i sorry that davey changed his look during the december underground album. thats when scene kids started liking them. and if it wasnt for mtv or guitar hero most people still wouldnt know about them.

  • @Claytonian15

You can say the same thing about the older material, you can walk out of a record store with 50 other hardcore punk albums that sound nearly the same. I think Their stuff from Black Sails and Art of Drowning-era are the most distinct they have made, yet that sound is almost entirely borrowed from Glenn Danzig.

  • This is the first time I've ever heard AFI, this is a pretty good cover of an amazing song. It'd be exponentially if the guitar didn't have such a disruptive tone.

  • Listen to all of their old stuff, any order really, then listen to Sing the Sorrow, then lastly Decemberunderground. Decemberunderground was my least favorite album. I dunno how they went from this, to that...

  • yeah ik man decemberunderground sounds so diff from this stuff.

  • Omg This Is Amazing!

  • wow, I had no idea AFI where influenced by the Police. This is a really good cover of the song, and this coming from a hardcore police fan.

  • aa the distorted guitar takes so much away from the song

  • Not rare at all.

  • Well, it can't be bought in stores, and being that most people only get music from iTunes and stores, it is rare

  • nah, its a good effort, but i still think The Police r better

  • haha i love it because in a later interview, davey says he really does not like ska and he would never consider doing any song that remotely has anything to do with it. still idk if this is really "ska" no horns etc.

  • i dunno bout you guys, but this songs gunna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day

  • i dont know why they didnt put this cover on the CD only a short clip of the intro is played like 15 minutes after high school football hero is over

  • yeah, it was vinyl only. They were trying to get people to pick it up for this song and Key Lime Pie. And guess what, its worth it!!! Or download 'em =D

  • what's the thing at the beginning from?

  • the animaniacs. the barney parody, i can't remember his name though...

  • oh thanks.

  • I know something i will tell: great song and band!

  • damn i wish this was on the cd!

  • fuck yeah this is like ska! was davey ever a rudeboy?

  • No he was not.

  • oh thats disappointing

  • The original Police version is miles better.

  • your mom is miles better.

  • goldfinger's versoin is miles better

  • hey man thanks 4 putting this up. this is dope

  • emery sucks

  • i like this version better than the police version personally, i hate afi's new material though they should go back to stuff such as this

  • ah i just realized in the description this is a cover

  • this is more of a ska-punk sound its fucking awesome

  • It's funny, this song sounds so odd being performed by old AFI, but would totally fit with modern AFI. And wow Davey sounds younger than usual. thanks for posting

  • yeah he was like 19 when this came out

  • fuck ya old afi rocks!!!

  • Excelent cover!!

  • ive been looking everywhere for this song

    thx

  • HEY

  • comment deleted

    stop posting stupid shit

  • Great cover.

  • 00:01-00:07 LOL!

  • i love this song. AFI rules.

    EXH

  • woah i never knew this song wasn't done by AFI odd
