Baldur's gate is probably the RPG with the most rich/decent stories. Today's rpg's are so much based on actions, and weak stories.

@RiseofBane The problem I have with more recently released titles is they tend to lack freedom of choice: you tend to get railroaded into good vs. evil choices (netural if you're lucky) with too many assumptions about why you made those choices; progression is usually too linear, not allowing you to explore the world "in parallel"; and not allowing you free reign (e.g., they usually won't allow you to kill certain NPCs).

In short, a good RPG lets you write your own story. :)
