This movie was terrible. There are far better movies dealing with ancient battles and wars. Try Gladiator, Braveheart, Troy and Kingdom of Heaven. Those movies had better stories, better plots, better scripts and by extension better action and characters who were actually realistic, not cookie-cutter warrior arch-types like this movies cast of characters.

Xerxes together with his million soldiers nevr conquered sparta until his death...not even Darius 2 conquered sparta.....the persians are just sacrificing there army for nothing...foolish persians..
in the ril story...the 300 spartans defeated the 40,000 persian army in the narrow pass....so darius 1 send his entire army against the persians and so the 300 sopartans wer all slain including leonidas...
the spartans were the fiercest warriors the world has ever known but of course hollywood would have to tone it up for effect. Brilliant movie and relatively accurate (as it has been said, their were nowhere near 5 million persians)
in all reality... there were 3 million persians but only 1 million made it the odds were against the 300 spartans but if you've seen the movie, you know the outcome
not true. Most accounts put the number of persians at 300,000. Also, though there were 300 spartans, there were also around 7,000 other greeks as well which do actually feature in the film (the Arcadians lead by Daxos) and more accurately in the graphic novel. Not knocking the film at all though, its absolutely brilliant, if anything its more accurate than you might think.
Yeah, all the historical accounts number it around 300,000. The only accout to put it at around 5,000,000 was the old 50's movie '300 Spartans'. I recommend you watch the documentary 'Last Stand of the 300'.
Using google research is definitely the best choice for a scientific research - or not? Mixing all the names and information and, at the same time, talking about facts, that's what I call brave (or ignorant).
No, you stfu. first off, im not whining, some idiot was complaing, i told him the facts. Im with you on thewhole movie part, but when people dnt know their history, it pisses me off. Hizzah sparta!
at the end of the battle the records said Xerxes has one of his "anger-rampages" which he was renowned for, and ordered his men to find the body of Leonidas - they mangled the body, cut off the head and crucified it. This also was very weird for persian culture - because usually they would honor their opponents for their exceptional fighting skills
They ALMOST lasted 3 days. They lost because a greek who wanted to get rich fast, told Xerxes about another pass through the mountains in exchange for gold, hence the spartans were surrounded - yet they didn't give up and Xerxes was forced to pull back his melee troops, then he ordered his archers to rain arrows untill every last spartan was dead - the weapon the spartans disgusted, for them it was a "coward's weapon" for it could kill from a distance.
dutchgeneral, wrong again - Herodotes exxagarated the story by saying they were atleast 3 million of them, though in the actual records there were 250.000 soldiers - a quarter of a million. Now in the old days past this was an exceptional amount of men, and also the largest expedition force ever known.
ok, that 300 spartans fight against a million persion is true, it happened, that they lasted 3 days, thats also true, spartans were the best warriors in history. so yes it is based on something from history, doesnt mean it is exactly how it went. Its just hollywood extra .. anyways, the movie is AWESOME!
There weren't a million...There were maximum 100,000 Persians. It has been proven that there wasn't enough food around for 100,000+ men. But yes, it IS an awesome movie!
haha. stay in school you idiot. the persian army toppled more than 2 million. it was the largest army in history. do your research before opening your mouth.
hahahahah what a fogot it was 100,000 and it was made to a million by a guy called homer so fuck you, you do your own fucking reaserch ask any1 n i bet dat ur be wrong ur bletly american

Wow, it wasn't made into a million soldiers by Homer... It was Herodotus. Homer was a writer and philosopher, while Herodotus was a historian. They weren't even alive in the same centuries. BTW, learn to spell. FAGGOT. Ask anyone and I bet that they agree with me that you're a fucking moron. You've just been educated by an American.
OK, other people make comments on the subject and you don't say shit to them... you're the fag. And yeah, this movie was da shit, I've seen it 3 times. So I think you should lighten up.
Persian Immortals weren't even that good. They were just made up of 10,000 Persian men with light armor, little wicker shields, and a regular spear. The Immortals were defeated at Marathon, Thermopylae (although the Persians won the battle), Plataea, Mycale, and finally Issus when Alexander the Great came in and took over the Persian Empire. They were only good for dealing with pathetic rebels and as intimidation for weak-minded enemies.
ok, that 300 spartans fight against a million persion is true, it happened, that they lasted 3 days, thats also true, spartans were the best warriors in history. so yes it is based on something from history, doesnt mean it is exactly how it went. We don't actually know the size of the original army so that may be untrue.
Using Herodotus's record (the limit was 500,000) there was at most 1 Greek (not just Spartan) to every 96 Persian/Libyan.
There is little record of how many was lost.
