I was raised Catholic until I was the age of reason, you know, twelve. Luckily my parents didn't shove it too far down my throat so I could still think for myself, and it took me about a minute of good thinking to instantly become agnostic, which lead to atheism.
Religion is toxic. I had an atheist friend who somebody converted and I can't even talk to her anymore. She refuses to swear or do anything "bad" now. And she's uber-ignorant whenever religion is brought up. If you even mention Muhammad, she just laughs like it's a joke, yet when it's Jesus she gets super defensive, and like "Why are you questioning my beliefs". It's fucking awful. It's just ignorance, arrogance and fear-mongering.

Initially I was a hardcore Catholic, but now I consider myself a Deist. I gotta say, it's a mixed bag. It's cool that some people can keep their faith for so long, but I was always a thinker and questioner. @flame123218 Why would god want to make life a game? Couldn't he just tell us he exists so we wouldn't need hell and could all just live happily? Instead of making life a test, and those raised in different cultures are punished for being born somewhere else? I mean, if you honestly say non-Christians are going to hell, you're saying that little kids deserve to go to hell just for where they were born, it's fucked up.

Also, not in that sense, were I differ from other Christians is that if in this life you are a good person without ever knowing Jesus or god or anything about Christianity, then you still go to heaven. he people who kill or so,hing equally as horrible will be sent to hell unless they repent.

@flame123218 While I do think you are much better than most Christians, who think little kids born in Pakistan are automatically going to hell, I still hate the "life is a test" philosophy. I don't think people should care if there's a god or not. There's no evidence of one, so why believe it? Just enjoy life, and if there is a god, so be it.

Even though I am a Christian, I enjoy seeing people discuss about this topic with maturity and intelligence. I also live in the Southeastern US, or the "Bible Belt". I see this racism occur whenever my grandparents are, or at school. I actually go to a catholic jesuit highschool, and a big part of our religion classes are to teach why people developed religion. We are taught with a respectful openness to all religions. There are students of all other faiths and backgrounds, including atheism, and they are not looked down upon by anyone. It is my belief that the old testament was a method to explain and to set social behavior, as many religions are, and the new testament is used to help people through an oppressive time.

But they force a child into a belief, rather than teaching them of several, including science, and letting them decide, they say "No, you are Christian (or whatever the fuck) and if you're not, you'll burn in hell". @Darius135gease That's a pretty ignorant stance to take. Over 20 percent of the student population at my catholic school are another religion. There is no hostility or disdain for those different. Then again, I've only gone to 2 catholic schools: one jesuit highschool and one catholic parochial, and I live in New Jersey, a very accepting and liberal state, so I can't speak for all religious institutions.

Initially I was a hardcore Catholic, but now I consider myself a Deist. I gotta say, it's a mixed bag. It's cool that some people can keep their faith for so long, but I was always a thinker and questioner. Partially I am glad I have finally defined myself, but it is a bit depressing going to church (I still have to go because of my family) and seeing people who are happy. I dunno, these are just my two cents.
