Last time I tried, I openned the chest with the keys with a friend I was helping and it said I had already gotten the candlesticks or theives armband. Something like "You don't need the Candlesticks again." message.

For a forum mod, you do know there is a section in Quests which says, need a Heroes Partner.

Which explains that you can help those in need if you have already completed the quest.
