  • This song is god through music! ahHhhHH Love It!

  • Jackson Browne's songs make you feel like you were there with him during these experiences. Absolutely amazing to feel that through a song.

  • this gives me goosebumps

  • Best marriage of music and lyrics in the universe.

  • @judyview One year posting the same :)

  • @gmansi Ha! I am awesomely consistent ;)

  • @judyview And good music is allways good music :) Have fun

  • @Draeka How does it feel to be alone in this world?

  • always great!!

  • It's alright. It's emotional but lacks a lot of definition. It feels like music in the bathroom at Starbucks. Sorry, just couldn't dig it.

  • @Draeka - i'm not sure I agree with your comment, but I do love how you phrased it - "...like music in the bathroom st Starbucks." Ha! You should be a music critic - you'd be hiliarous.

  • The Dude Sent Me!

  • Respond to this video...

Love it . But i love everything he does

  • @ky21cr12

I run into the same thing all the time. I play his music or say his name and always the same dumb question who is that. Are you brain dead or just tone deaf is my reply. I go to whatever state he is playing in once a year because there will never be anyone like him in ten life times.

  • JB's masterwork.

  • Always. JB smoky changes, bridges like fine bourbon, never a copy. Always.

  • I can go for days listening to nothing but JB. There are a few others like that too.

  • Have always been a fan since I was in HS

  • Wonderful, powerfully moving song - very heavy with emotion. "Faded pages open in the sun...." Gets me every time.

  • this is one of my favorite songs

  • When I was 16 years old I bought my First Jackson Browne album, LATE FOR THE SKY ! Never yet been disappointed in anything he's done !!!....2 of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard are both Jackson Browne songs !...Late for the Sky and For a Dancer.......I'm now 51 Years old.......P.S. Another Beautiful song but not JB'S is There's a River by Steve Winwood.......

  • "Barricades To Heaven." Jackson Browne.

  • Perfection .... thank you!

  • superb! (what a great B3 organ background, too)

  • Can't tell I'm a Jackson Browne fan, huh? And that I'm feeling kinda melancholy and timesick?

  • The audio is the studio version...

  • He marries music and lyrics like no one else ever has or ever will.

  • just so amazing. never get tired of this one.

  • these are excellent lyrics. i'm 16 and can relate haha :)

  • This song is an entire novel, really. The images run deep and shine clearly.

The Barricades of Heaven is a song that'll live forever.

  • Hallelujah Yahshua Ha Mashiach. May Yahweh bless you all.

  • And he surrounded himself with exceptional talent. I've always loved the harmonies in his music. It would be very cool just to work with him.

  • Jacksons music even "sets me free" to this day...

An eternal talent, I am so grateful to have dicovered this artist in my early days, he has also written part of my life.

    Thank you Jackson!

  • An old boyfriend from college introduced me to Jackson back when I was 19 . . . years later, I am still in love with his music. He can take me back through the many pages of my life as if they were yesterday. What a great and talented songwriter . . . never get tired of listening and enjoying his music.

  • You wrote what i coudn,t get on paper.

  • "When I was 16 and on my own."

That line kills me. I remember being out late, out all night, and that feeling comes rushing back everytime I hear the start of this song.

I'm from the Barricades of Heaven, with the stars above and lights below.

    Man I love Jackson Browne.

  • Where are the great songwriters and perfomers now? Where is the insight now? JB is a great songwriter that has a direct connection to the soul

  • amen, well said

  • @joendeb640 -ryan adams, ray lamontagne, eddie vedder... to name a few

  • Always brings things into perspective. Jackson Browne has that kind of power. Love it!

  • when I watch this video I have two options:

    1) singing this amazing song

    2) watching this video with open mouth !

such a beautiful song brother Jackson...

  • Jackson guides many people! and empathizes with many more!! He's been there for me!!!!

  • I never tire of watching this video.

    Achingly beautiful

  • how he perfectly articulates his experiences and emotions into his music ill never know... check out sky blue and black too...

  • Sky Blue and black... One of the best ever JB, I just saw him aug 28th here in OKC.. Everything, perfect! JB sounds just like he did 30 yrs ago.

  • Maybe.. but he sure pours his heart in his music.. That's what makes him.. Pure!

  • Look at J B's mood from the start and at the end, He's been there!!....... and just revisited!!!!

  • What an awesome composition and well produced.. A true poet...

  • Superb

  • They really are! Love this tune.

  • A piercing voice into your heart and soul. I love this mans work. Such a talented songwriter. This is one of my favorites. Cheers

  • Browne also said recently in concert that, "It doesn't have to really be about [growing up in] Southern California. It's just about the time in your life when you leave home and try to figure out how you're going to be who you want to be."

  • Hey, guys. I don't think there's any need to argue about the song, just appreciate it for what it is. Like any other piece of work, people will interpret it differently. Anyway, living in OC (Anaheim) and attending SHHS, I've always felt connected to Browne's music. This is my all-time favorite song, and I've done plenty of research on it. In an interview with KGSR, Browne said, "I'm really talking about where I'm from and where I'm singing about it in that song is Orange County, California."

  • That song is.... deeper and darker than a very very .....Deep.... Dark ....Thing!

  • The greatest song ever written about Orange County is REALLY all about.

  • This is not about Orange County.

  • You're out of your F-ing mind and a moron. The Paradox, The (Golden) Bear & the Rouge et Noir were ALL Orange County clubs that Browne, (as well as Steve Martin) used to perform in and that I used to frequent. Browne was raised in Fullerton and spent his youth, like I did around those "towns along the shore' and often drove that "Stretch of road running up (north) to LA.The next time you decide to comment make sure it's about something you know about and NOT to someone who LIVED the song himself

  • ok......ill settle this.......it is set in OC, and yes that is obvious. But its a song about him growing up NOT about the county. It is set there because he grew up there and for no other reason.

  • Yeah.... the FACT that he MENTIONS SPECIFIC LOCATIONS as well as the FACT the first line of the song is "RUNNING DOWN AROUND THOSE TOWNS ALONG THE SHORE" mean's it's actually about Heidelberg Germany.....

WHERE THE HELL DID YOU SAY YOU GREW UP AGAIN? IF WASN'T SOMEWHERE NEAR Costa Mesa....or Fullerton....or Huntington....or Laguna.....or Placentia....or Buena Park... then PLEASE just keep your mouth shut and STOP pretending to know somethig about O.C. if all you know of it is a bad tv show!

  • 47 years old and going off on tyraids over Youtube, you must lead a really sad life.

  • You're the one that's posting twice.....about someplace you never lived and dont know ANYthing about.

So, how am "I" the dumbass again?

    (crickets)

    I rest my case....

now go back to watching you DVD collection of "THE" OC.

That's about as close as you'll ever get to the place anyway.

  • How do you know if I've ever been or lived there?

You are a moron, stop embarassing yourself old man.

  • I didn't ask if you'd ever BEEN there dipshit.... I said if you've ever LIVED THERE?

    Did you flunk English too?

Yeah, I'm older than you..... so why are YOU listening to songs written before you were fucking born Jr? HAHAHAHA!

You pissant wannabe.... go play with your Wii!

  • "Ever live there?"

Pretty sure you said I "NEVER, lived there"

You don't even know what you write, dumbass get a life.

  • You're 47 and arguing with underage kids on Youtube, you're the dumbass here dude.

Jackson also confirmed himself this song is not about OC in an interview go look it up and learn something about the music you are trying to convince us you are an expert on.

You look mighty foolish to the people here that actually know.

And who cares if Jackson came before the kids time? Doesn't mean he can't enjoy the brilliant music like the rest of us.

  • I know what I'm talking about dumbass.

Show me where Jackson Browne has stated personally that this song is about Orange County. Because, based off what you just said. You only think it is about that because you grew up there and that makes you a jackass.

Next thing I know, you're gonna tell us "Let it Be" is about marijuana, am I right?

  • F A B U L O U S

  • oooooo this is music.. im so lucky to hear him live in Bergen ( Norway) 1st of may this year 2009.... i cant belive it... yesssssss....:)

  • One of the great songwriters from this era!

  • f-a-b-o-u-l-o-u-s-!-!-!!!

(and it is also fabolous that you can leave a comment while the song still sounds on!!!)

  • This was from his peformance on Vh1 Storyteller's, I think. I don't know what year this show was though.

  • he sounds amazing

  • Bring your own redemtion,I like that.

  • He could sing to me all night and day! One of the greatest singers/composer ever! He has always been my fantasy, then and now.

  • My fav song by the great man, if it is possible to have a favorite. I'm trying desterately to get tickets to see him in Liverpool in March.

  • The most beautiful man I have ever been lucky enough to see..... thank you Jackson, for writing a big part of the soundtrack of my life -- and thank you hanswuerstle88 for posting this fabulous version <3

  • hey ya'll people, told ya'll i wuz new to this so help me out, i just clicked on hands pic or down now this so don't know who this is for hey, dudes, i just wanted to hear jackson as he is my soul, and now got myself into this sorry, feel stupid someone help me out!!

  • One of the last of the American Heroes.

  • yeah, steve he is the real deal, i rarely come to the u-tube area, i mostly stay on my space, i have a page there as weel, would like to be friends, anyone who loves JB as much as i do should atleast talk LC17

  • What a great song writer - one of the best of modern times. Such insight, perception, reflection, and profoundness in his lyrics. If I could somehow write and perform music, it would resemble Jackson Browne's style.

  • I saw Jackson Browne open for Tom Petty in 2002 and he blew Petty away!

  • Great song.. one of my faves

  • How can you Not love Jackson Browne!!!! Love him when I first listen to him, addicted and spread out to those who love music ........

  • btw, in the album sleeve, it said there were seven writers:

    1) Jackson Browne

    2) Jeff Young

    3) Kevin McCormick

    4) Scott Thurston

    5) Mark Goldenberg

    6) Mauricio Lewak

    7) Luis Conte

There also happens to be seven verses...did they do one each, or something?

  • to StephenKuma, Jackson always credits his bnd with songwriting since they all come up with their own parts, but he writes each song music and lyrics before he brings it to the band to rehearse and arrange

so basically he gives them credit for arrangement, though he wrote the basic music and yrics on his own. he's done this for years now

  • He always credits his band dude, I think he always has done but its cos they come up with their own parts and help wuth arrangments, I would imagine Jackson writes the chords and lyrics and sets the mood...

  • Great song...an amazing singer songwriter. Feel of quiet emotion, running deep (and empty, sometimes). Which album is it from? Nick

  • i have one problem with jackson browne...i can't find one word do describe him. There's so much meaning in each of his songs. Every time i listen to one of songs, it's like i hear it for the first time.

Note to JB: thanks for changing my life completely, you have made me realize what it means to live a good life.I love you!!

  • i was about to get upset when i read that you had a problem with JB. LOL. Good thing i kept reading! I totally agree

  • Possibly one of the best JB songs of all time - I wouldn't be surprised if JB thought so too going by the way he introduces it at concerts

  • I love his music so much, I have every original album he's ever released, I've listened to each album many times.

  • one of my fav Jb songs, great performance

  • bob dyllan dosent have shit on him.

  • wow, as a Dylan fan, and someone new to Jackson Browne, I'm looking forward to listening to all his albums :)

  • @Stratocaster07 Jackson is a fantastic songwriter, but noone will ever have a patch on this universe. Just my humble opinion of course :)

  • @Stratocaster07Jackson Browne is a fantastic songwriter and musician. Bob Dylan was a more than a songwriter tho. He was a musical figurehead for a very difficult time in American history. Like you, I was very judgmental when i started listening to him. You should also take the time to read into his music. You will love it.

  • @Stratocaster07 let's not go overboard.

  • @Stratocaster07 Why would you even compare the two? Both have their unique aspects to songwriting, both great in their own right.

  • one of the best song of his latest CDs. so awesome

  • does anyone have a tab on the first 19 seconds of this video?

  • Did you have any luck finding the intro tab? I have been looking for it too, or at least a better video to work it out with.

  • yep. in my view he is easily the greatest song writer of all times. ive counted 21 of his songs that are just incredible to me. so much meaning behind every single one of his songs. jackson browne forever

  • Great

  • There is only one Jackson Browne

  • He is the master songwriter period

  • Thanks for this great video! Jackson is (AGAIN) in fine form; he is absolutely flawless. Saw him a couple years ago in Providence, R.I. during his solo acoustic tour. He has aged BETTER than fine wine!! I have been a fan of his since 1977, when I was just 14. Keep these awesome videos of JB coming! :)

  • I love Jackson Browne! One of the greatest songwriters alive!

  • absolute tune. this, call it a loan and late for the sky...absolutly fantastic

  • No había oido esta canción, ¿me podrían decir a que álbum pertenece? Gracias por compartirla.

  • yes, it's from the album "Looking east" from the year 1996.

  • Great song, great songwriter...jm
