"Disbelief in god has been around just as long as belief" -Actually it's been around longer. Think about it. "One of christianity's greatest gifts to modern western culture is the scientific enterprise" -so the explain inquisition? Were they just trying to take their gift back? And don't get me started about Ben Stein's dumpster worthy piss poor excuse for an intellectually honest documentary. Garbage.
@caveatemp a huge claim requires huge evidence and there is none of that in the bible. the bible has done nothing good for humanity other than repress people for thousands of years. the church is always dragged kicking and screaming for every bit of social progress made just to take credit for it later.
Very true. That has been my experience in dialogues with atheists. They absolutely hate God, think God is evil, and deny God's existence in the same breath. Seems to me you can't eat your cake and have it as well.
@mamushi72sai5575 Because you deny that you are a created being. You can deny the existence of God and not "hate" God, per se. You instead hate the church, the body of believers. This is Christ manifest in the world today. You have lots of support from so-called Christians. Most Christians don't believe in the church either.
We can discuss the issue but my experience is that most atheists are close minded and hateful towards God.
@caveatemp sorry man, the universe is known to be billions of years old and people have only been around for a flash. so how could a person create everything billions of years before people existed? it just makes no sense.
@mamushi72sai5575 You're assuming personhood is limited to hominids. God created us in God's image, male and female. If something doesn't make sense to you, you should look to your understanding and not your skin deep theological grasp at the moment. In other words, if something doesn't make sense to you, find out. Knock and the door will be opened to you.
@caveatemp I have the bible. I have gone through it. I did not read every words but I found big chunks and read. if you read that and do question it there is something wrong. why would a god make a book to tell his story? if he wanted to he could just write it in sky every night.
Atheist position - 'there is no real evidence for God, therefore I do not believe in one' - Notice there is no dogma in this opinion. The only 'aggression' comes in a response to theists implying we will be tortured for eternity after death if we don't do as they say.
Theist position - 'The creator of the universe favours me and will reward me after death if I live by my religion's rules. Everyone else will burn in hell, even if I don't want them to' - See any arrogance or aggression?
@DixonCox99 Shows you have really bad theological understanding. Hell is a torture but it is self inflicted. No one in hell will ever ask to get out. Read Jesus' parable of of Lazarus and the rich man.

lol, talk about wishful thinking! Atheism is on the rise in all 1st world countries, and shows little sign of ceasing.

@JPWMT "Only seven per cent of Canadians call themselves atheists, a number nearly unchanged since 1975" unquote. "All 1st world countries"?

Atheist position. "I don't know what evidence would be for God I just know I hate God and God doesn't exist.
Theists position. Something can't come from nothing. Something has to be outside of time and space. There must be a creator.
See any self-centeredness and arrogance or aggression in atheism? Me too.
