@Lemonz1989 That makes sense. Afghanistan was a mission that, in principle, had a clear and justifiable purpose. Not so with Iraq. It took us Americans a little longer to oppose it, but now you will find no one that is glad we went there. Fortunately, Europeans are much more responsive to political events, so when Bush was kicked out of office, you guys saw that without him the US can be the decent ally it's always been, and our approval ratings in Europe skyrocketed back to their equilibrium :)
@Lemonz1989 That's absolutely true. I think that, sometimes, you are better allies than we deserve. Historically, the US has been a great ally to Western Europe, you'll have to admit, but under the last couple of administrations we haven't been that great with you guys. And yes, you definitely eased up the burden that our own wars imposed upon us. Rest assured that all Americans are thankful (and many of us feel partially guilty) for the sacrifices you've made in the name of our friendship.
And finally, I just wanted to say to all Europeans: I (we) don't hate you guys. I love Europe. I speak German and Spanish because I love Germany and Spain. But you accuse Americans of arrogance, yet it's clear you guys love to think you're the best at everything. You're not. Neither are we. We do a lot of things better than you and you do a lot of things better than us. We should unify, not divide, ourselves against the threat coming from the East. Can't we all live like the brothers we are?
@Lemonz1989 I'm not trying to justify the wars, which I see as a reckless act of stupidity from Bush, but rest assured that Europe didn't economically "save" the US from going bankrupt with the wars. The US assumed most of its costs, and in fact contributes more to NATO than all other nations combined.
Also, I absolutely agree with you with the majority of us Americans not knowing how to use the term "socialist." I blame it on morons like Sarah Palin.
I sometimes hate Europe (for being socialists and their pacifist talking while they rely on our military) but still I gotta admit overall as a continent I can't think of no better civilization in history
Of cause we are socialist. The human species is a social species. It is in our genes to help the less fortunate than ourselves. I'd say communism is the real threat since that was the system that forced an entire superpower on it's knees.
Socialism however is just an acknowledgement of basic human rights.
And before you call me a lefty I have to say I'm liberal which means I'm actually on the right hand of the spectrum.

I feel closer to a Moroccan than to a Czech (common language). Closer to a US citizen than to a German (relaxed mentality). Closer to a Swiss than a Belgian (the Swiss are my people, at least part of it). Closer to an Austrian than to a Danish (I can understand Austrian German). Why should I feel like I am a "EU citizen" if I didn't even have the choice to say yes or no to EU? This whole construct is bullshit.

what make the US so special in your opinion/experience?
Finally we have stopped throwing insultas at each other . :D
No, I just feel that the quality of life is better. I mean, we left Russia when I was very young, right after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. We moved to AMerica right away, and I learned English and picked up an American accent. The big thing for me was when living in Europe/Australia after I lived in America, there was SO much Anti-American sentiment. I used to get teased in school and what not... Doesn't happen in America.
the anti-american sentiment may lie in its role as a superpower, spreading its culture over the world. but as mentioned in my pm, we are family and it should be legal to criticize a relative. the event on 911 showed the compassion/affiliation to uncle sam, our big brother... hehe -- but the war on terror that followed enraged even big parts of the american citizens understandably.
But getting the "I laughed at 9/11, and I hope it happens again" messages aren't very fun... I knew a few people who perished that day. Some were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters... all ethnicities, and their families lives will never be the same, and these things rarely happen to America, our reaction was well, harsh... but the last time we got attacked we joined WW2, and people loved us then, yet they hate our reaction now?
I understand that you like USA if you moved from Russia, ofcourse. But The Western and Central Europe is so much more developed than USA. I'm not saying that becouse I'm european, but becouse of the statistics. Look at the facts:
- INCOME PER CAPITA is higher in most of the european countrys , I mean, Norwegian people has 3 times higher incomes, they come in America and they can buy 3 times more things than USA people do
@slopri That's not true. Household incomes are higher in the US than in any other European country, as are average wages (look them up on the OECD page). Per-capita PPP GDP is higher only in Norway than in the US, but the US is far above the EU average. And Norway is above the US only by $5,000. As for education, 18 out of the 20 world's best universities are in the US. Sorry to put an end to your misconceptions.
Well, however you put it... Why I love Europe and why I wouldn't ever want to live in usa...
-By quality of life Index in the top 25 cities, there are 22 European and none american... The highest is Honolulu in 30th place and San francisco on 31st.
-If you want a proper education in USA, you need to attend a private school, which is still lower quality than many European public schools
-40% of americans live in poverty at least 1 year of their lifetime, free health care etc.
@slopri -The cities study is bullshit. I've seen their methodology. It's meaningless. It takes into account things that make smaller, tighter European cities inherently "better" because of their dense layout. It's not an unbiased study.
-The UN, on the other hand, ranks fourth on quality of life. The only European country that ranks higher is Norway.
-8 out of the top 10 universities in the world, 17 out of the top 20, and 55 out of the top 100 are in the US. More than half of them are public.
@slopri (second post--read first) Not to mention that the US has the world's highest salaries and household incomes. So, in other words, as much as you try to get around it, the US is richer, has a higher quality of life, and much better education than Europe. I don't care about public schools. In the US workers are still much more productive than in Europe and our scientific impact factor per capita is far higher, which means that our education yields better results, even if tests don't say so.
That's a huge lie. Average european worker is as, or more productive than american worker. Quality of life index (which includes: health, family life, community life, material well being, political stability an security, climate and geography, job security, political freedom, gender equality) is by FAR higher in Europe. Poverty rate in america is almost the same as the poverty rate in Kazahstan (!!!).
As far as sience goes, EU wins much more Nobel prizes every year so... lol
@slopri Not a single thing you say is right. Where do you get your data from? The American worker is the world's third most productive, after that from Luxembourg and Norway, tied with the Netherlands. You can look it up on the Conference Board or ask me for links. Those four countries represent less than 5% of Europe's population, so Europe as a whole is far, far below America as a whole. (to be continued)
@slopri Second, no quality of life index says that Europe is above America. America is fourth, I repeat, FOURTH on the UN Human Developed Index. Only Norway, i.e., less than 1% of Europe, is above. And America's poverty rate is below ten percent. And our poverty line is higher than yours since both our average and median incomes are about 30% higher than yours. You WISH America were as poor as Kazakhstan. Unfortunately, that would make you poorer than Kazakhs, since you are poorer than us.
@AlvinHDavernport MY bad, I meant America's poverty rate is below 15%, not 10%. But still, it is incredibly stupid to compare the percentage of people below poverty line in Kazakhstan and the US. The poverty line in the US is so high compared to Kazakhstan's that if all people in that country living below the US poverty line were considered to be "poor", then their poverty rate would be about 80%. Two absolutely incomparable cases. I'm appalled at the lack of intelligence of this man.
@slopri Third, our of the 829 Nobel prizes that have ever been handed out, America has won 326. That's more than one per one million people. Even if Europe won all the rest (which it hasn't, since Japan, Israel, India, Canada, and Australia have also won a lot), it would be about 500, less than one per one million people. So no, America has actually been much more successful being awarded Nobel prizes than you guys have, even though the Nobel committee has occasionally shown bias against the US.
@slopri And fourth, yeah, black people kill each other a lot. But among white Americans, murder rates are barely above Europe's, and considering guns are technically illegal in most of your countries, I'd say you couldn't handle yourselves if you had the right to bear arms. Sorry to break it to you, man, but you are the dumbest person I've ever debated with.
@slopri You proved me wrong? Whatever lets you sleep at night man... if you ran out of arguments and the only thing left for you is to complain because I'm insulting you... OK, I understand. I didn't expect you to be able to admit that I just proved you wrong on every single thing, from the Nobel prize thing to the productivity thing to the public universities thing to the wages thing. I feel kind of sorry for you. You must be heartbroken right now seeing as I just burst your little bubble.
