@Ozzybeans Yeah, I guess top 5 would be more like it. My top 15 list would have to look like this (keeping in mind its not just skill I look at but overall effect) : John Glascock Dave Hope John Paul Jones Flea Stefan Lessard Paul McCartney Roger Waters Noel Redding John Mcvie Bill Wyman Duff Mckagan Dave Ellefson Stu Cook Eric Wilson Steve Harris
my most favorite thing about zepplin and it is not said enough is the way they treated each other and there fans they set the example fpr all heavey metal bands respect your band mates and get along and never forget them in bonhams case
Wow thanks for posting this. Led Zep was a band that really knew how to groove. They don't even have to look at one another for the changes. They have jammed together for long they instinictively know where the flow is going without missing a lick. Bottom line these guys were just flat out the true embodiment of Rock-n-Roll to the MAX!
I wish now that I had gone down the front so I would have been on the film. I thought about it as things got more uncontrollable as the night went on, but I thought row 11 was ok at the time.
Im glad they filmed this as I was always telling people what a good concert it was, and at the time it didnt seem that they were filming it to put out.
Has been my favorite Zeppelin song since the first time l heard it. Was honored to be present when they played it live in Toronto when they toured as Page Plant. Along with hearing Ronnie James dio sing Stargazer in a solo tour in 2006 and Notis Sfakianakis performing from midnight till 6 am in Thesaloniki Greece the 3 highlights of my concert experiences.
I realise now how much most of the music now is terrible. For instance Justin Bieber he got rich off being able to kinda sing and he looks good. No emotion anymore.
The main riff of this song has so much power that if you were to play it live outside at any town festival today, and could play it this well, it would start a riot and the police would be helpless to stop it. There is so much pent-up emotion in people these days, especially young people, and they don't know how starved they are for real music until they hear it.
yeah... your right cuz all todays music is about horrible shit happening and killing and rapng and girls and stuff back then music was so happy and lively and that was the best decades apparently
@owlcu actually, that happened back in the 60s when jimmy page and jeff beck and a few others first introduced this raunchy electric guitar sound to young people. There is a movie from circa 1966 that had a droning, hard, deep heavy guitar riff, that no one had ever heard before that time (again, this is the mid 60s) and the "youths" of the day literally rioted.
pepole back then probably took this for granted. Little did they know that music was not going to constantly evolve and get better. In fact, evolution of music definitely peaked a long time ago. Been on a sad and steady decline for decades now.
@BeyondNeptune youre right in a way, though even at the time this was special and I was aware how good it was the next day when I woke up with it still in my mind. there was so much around, the next week I went to joni mitchell in london, which jimmy page also attended, and there were probably lots in between I should have gone to. I thought of it a bit like the biblical 7 years of feast then 7 of famine, but its been 42 of famine from this time Im afraid to say.
Everyone of them is absolutely kickin ASS on this song! I had this DVD and spent most of my time on DVD #2, then I came across this and haven't been back to #2 since. Amazing.
@dothedewupurs i don't understand why they would...It's all on the DVD. Same with Knebworth and Earls Court...They obviously wanted the world to see this.
Ive been lucky enuff to see Zep twicwe...In 1970 and 1978.The 70 show was like this video....MINDBLOWING! But the 78 show was sad....it was a cold mechanical performance..."Take the money and run" kind of thing.Sad really.
what a genius guitar tone. this performance is the main reason why i bought myself a hiwatt amplifier, but i still don't really get that tone... damn! :D
I have played in SEVERAL tribute bands. From Chili Peppers To Police. I learned how to play drums by listening to Bonham as a kid.If not for that, there would be no way . You must be able to feel the music/ not count or do math like Rush or Tool. easy in comarison to this! Playing Zeps music is THE most fun I have ever had playing drums. I have a vid and we just decided to play the Ocean in the middle of a Police show, and crowd dug it! Too bad singer/bassist didn't know it.Check it out.
the solo is freaking mind blowing! i really can't figure out what he does in the beginning part of it, you know, the part he does in some of the solos throughout this concert, and it's making me angry!!
He gets in drop D at the beginning but its gotta be for Moby Dick. There is no way he would do that for this song. The audio in the DVD is not a continuous play.
robert plant can improvise like nobody else led zeppelin kan really do no wrong my man bonzo killin those drums but wen has he ever stoped led zeppelin tha greatest of all time nobody comes close
Well, he simply kicked it here. I saw him in Orlando long ago and then in Oklahoma in the late 90s, and his voice and performances were killer!
