I think that Carmel and West Jones were both trying to re-create what Mitchell did in 2007. You can't re-create perfection. Everybody who tried to redo clinton's free bird failed. Redoing Burrough's prentender...FAIL. When one group does a song successfully, the song should be retired and never redone, because it is very difficult to top perfection.
I have to say, I prefer this show, and I hosted Carmel. While yes, Carmel is a good choir, West Jones used the actual song, while Carmel slowed it down, taking away some of the intensity. But like "alwaysrational" say, they were two different takes on the song.
I honestly have to say that this show choir went at the song wrong. This song is the eye catcher and it just was not that, and beside it got a lil pitchy at the end. Carmel On the other hand was wonder full i love the dancing and the singing
Carmels is BORING, and a bad version of the song. Let's all agree that Carmel sings better and West Jones has better choreo and puts on a better show. End of debate.
I think the two versions are almost apples and oranges. Carmel and West Jones took two COMPLETELY different directions in their interpretations of the same song. West Jones went "show choir" with their style and Carmel took a more choral, sophisticated, and artistic approach. While I do prefer Carmel's both vocally and visually, I respect West Jones for what they performed.
I would just like to comment to everyone that I would like them to watch Carmel's version. I watched it and I would like to know everyone else's opinion on it. I was not impressed in any way by it and im not sure why everyone is so hyped up about it.
let's not compare, those are two different products that had a whole lot of effort put in by two different groups. plus - if this video is on youtube (obviously it is), than it is up to showcase a work they are proud of.
lol thats quite funny considering there are NO breath breaks in Virtuoso we sing it through thats the sopranos switching notes and range comes during timeless melody
I have seen Carmels and they are good, and I like these guys too. The only thing I feal is that the soloist from Carmel, i still dont know his name, is more passionate about it.

I do agree with you that their vocals lack just a little bit. I'm optimistic that they will learn to adopt proper tonality and strong breath support. They get better every year and I'm excited to see what the future holds for "Imagination"!
Id really like you to try this dance which is pretty difficult and holding out the word virtuoso out you run out of breath easily its very hard to sing and you are juding on youtube.
That may be so, doctortylerjr. But who really cares? Besides that, how can you honestly tell judging from a youtube video? You should have seen their performance at Petal! It was amazing! This is West Jones "Imagination" and they are an incredible group.
This is definitely how the deep South does Show Choir! Saw them at Mississippi State SC. Quite impressive!

this choreograohy is sloppy, overly-simple, and doesn't fit the song.

ok, a few things. about the carmel thing, yeah, carmel's version is better, but it's more complex that it simply being better.
-carmel has much stronger vocals and they have way more harmony parts. this is almost all in unison; the parts are just up the octave
-most of the choreography is hands, not a lot of complicated footwork
-the soloists aren't as strong as carmel's. I'm not saying they're not good; they're just not as strong.
this group is great, but the version is just not as difficult.
