  • My dude at 6:36 is so high :p

  • @lcolby11 My My it does not take a lot of imagination to come up with a negative comment and all the thumbs down.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode,,,, Its true,,maybe I was not into the new music Carlos was doing,,he did fusion jazz and spirit stuff after the 70s were over,,check out the music my friend,,wasnt he Devadip Santana in the early 80S ?

  • maestro santana....

  • maestro santana....

  • at 06:37 the guy is smoking a spliff

  • what i learned from santa is that lead guitar is not all about speed. its about making music with the notes that you play with the band behind you. you only should apply speed when necessary, or when the music calls for it IE to add a little aggression in the progression of sound. its not all about you the guitar player, its about your music and the audience listening to the guitar and getting entranced. which is what carlos is good at.

  • APPAEALS FOR MY SISTERS.YOUR ANY LIFE PROBLIMS SOLAVE INSHALLAHA ONLY 3DAYS.PLZ CALL ...BABA ABBAS SHAH.+92306 4646499 PAKISTAN

  • Yes, I know. But, the effects pedals were limited. Check out out Jimi in Woodstock. I believe he had a FuzzFace, a Univibe and a wah pedal. Or, BB King, Ritchie Blackmore, Chuck Berry or Joe Pass, who didn't use any back then. Pedals give cool sounds, but it still comes down to the player's fingers and soul.

  • Great video. These guys got that great sound without all the effects pedals today's players seem to need.

  • @ragdad007 LOL sound effects were the big thing in those days. Carlos was very sublets with the sound effects but got known for the use of sustaining a note indefinitely. Most guitarists could not do a long sustain without getting feedback. I personally loved the way he would blend guitar notes with the keyboard sounds on tunes like Europa, Jugando and Dance sister dance

  • Funny, these guys probably had more in common with the music of West Africa than the major soul acts that comprised the majority of the Soul to Soul festival.

  • @subg88 derr!

  • We will never see the like again. Amazing

  • @sammymint How do you know that?

  • Comment removed

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode Because half the band are no longer around, and we will never see this type of playing again

  • This Shit is dope.

  • Man Carlos should play Les Paul's and SG's again.

  • @santanaincubus Why don't you write to him directly and tell him to change guitar. I don't think he reads this blog.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode Lol. I'll try.

  • Correcto, en esta actuación eran dos negros; me refería al grupo original de Santana...

  • Willy Bobo uno de los pioneros del latin-jazz aqui buen documental historico.

  • @codehendrix + @54081470 Early Santana Bands originated that feel/African sound by fusing Salsa, Rock & Latin Jazz (albums 1-3), then adding Samba (albums 4-6). All rooted in Afro Cuban/Afro Brazilian percussion rhythms DRIVEN by great collaborating band members like Jose Chepito Arias, Mike Carabello, Mike Shrieve, Armando Peraza, Coke Escovedo, James Mingo Lewis, Airto. Here Willie Bobo sits in on timbales. Those Santana Bands had creative, pioneering All Stars at every position.

  • @microsoftsourcecode thx for posting this live jam. I'm still in awe of their live performance of Caravanserai in NY ('72).

  • SANTANA IS THE BEST

  • @646briana Best comment so far. Sweet and straight to the point. ♥♥♥♥♥ it lol

  • only one black member? everyone in the band is mixed. true soul knows no color!

  • Este clip es parte del documental "Soul to Soul", filmado durante un concierto en Ghana en 1971. Aparecen también: Wilson Pickett; Ike & Tina Turner; The Staple Singers; Roberta Flack y The Voices of East Harlem; alternan varios músicos ghaneses en el documental. El objetivo del concierto fue regresar a las raíces africanas y tener un intercambio cultural con la madre patria.

Yo vi este documental en un cine de la ciudad de México a fines de 1971.

  • This clip is of the film "Soul To Soul" was a concert held in Accra, Ghana on March 6, 1971 by an array of American R&B, soul, rock, and jazz musicians.

Several at the show remarked that Santana, despite having only one black member, played the most "African-sounding" music of the night.

American musicians: Wilson Pickett; Ike & Tina Turner; The Staple Singers, The Voices of East Harlem and others. Also many african musicians. I enjoy this film in 1971 in Mexico City. Buy in cd universe

  • I get a chill in my soul that feels like a breeze from the ocean, I see the Golden Gate bridge, and the gap between childhood and eternity disappears. JohnnyVat'l~Peace!

  • I still remember this scene! I was a young guy then!! just completed school and working. That was a great night for us in Accra!!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing him a few times in 1969 and atleast 50 times since....just incredible!

  • neal schon looks like mr erasser head!

  • neal schon looks like mr eraser head!

  • 9:34 Santana is so tight when they start playing to themselves and when Michael starts getting into the zone. He is (s)eXtacy to watch. <3

  • @mindytinkerberg LOL have you seen what Michael looks like now? Thanks for the cool comment anyway flower.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode Yes. I have. He friended me on FB. Very cool person, and yeah he looks like a 61 yr old man, nothing wrong with that. He never gave up music and took another vocation. Music is still in his heart and soul! Peace!

  • @mindytinkerberg Aww I deleted my Face book

  • i wonder if santana realizes how much more feel his live music had back in the day...

  • @codehendrix I don't think he is the kind of person to dwell on the past.

  • @codehendrix i think santana went clean

  • your mom's the shit for diggin' this music and for buying their BEST 3 ALBUMS!!!

  • on cinco de mayo my hstory teacher was trying to fing mexican music and he pulled up this video and was confused why it wasn't mexican music and he's 57 i'm 13 and he was completley amazed that I knew about this type of music he was like " isnt Santana mexican music?" i said "no the lead guitariat is carlos santana" he said "how do you know that" i said back "Because Neal Schon was in Santana before he formed Journey". He was really embarresed

  • c'on santana's style was already well developed

  • Can somebody tell me,who has the lead vocal/keyboard on this recording ?? I guess, Rollie, Kermode, or someone else ?? THANX !

  • santana siempre el mejor del mundo

    viva mexico!!!

  • mierrrda que conciertazo mi madre.

  • Santana parece mi tio a esa edad hahahahah

  • I listened to the third album relentlessly..and this is the first time I have seen Neil and Carlos together on stage.....Thanks.....Jungle Strut It's Beautiful !!!!

  • i would die and go to heaven if Carlos Santana at this age when he was young and Omar LOpez Rodriguez from the mars volta played a show together after taking a shitload of acid why because there styles are so innovative that it would be badass to see that high thats my dream i look up to them both as guitar gods

  • where is this footage from?

  • This is up there close to their woodstock preformance.

  • Santana looked so cool when he was young

  • This performance is a stoner's dream.

  • you aint kidding! im smoking right now

  • The sound of the B3 Hammond is so wonderful

  • santana the best of America!!!! (the continent)

  • before black magic woman he is playing "Waiting" I belive

  • 2 years after Woodstock, nice show. Thanks for uploding!

  • Carlos still sounds best {to me} on a Les Paul

  • @joeholl3333 yes he' gets a fatter tone w/ a paul & i wonder if he is playing a mesa boogie at this point i think by now he should have been hooked up w/ Mesa by then ..great combo... i had a mesa mkiic w/ a hi watt bottom 4x12 cabinet and a les paul..great sound..

  • I think they're still on Fender Twins here! Mesa brings the octane! Those 1973 lotus era clips here on youtube are the shit!!!! Those clips are definately Boogie infused!

  • @joeholl3333 Santana could play a freaking ukulele and still sound awesome!!

  • I love Carlos' style. Its sounds kinda sloppy and improvised but its always mind blowing.

  • whats the song named?

  • Jungle Strut...

  • Terrific sound!

  • Saw this movie back in 1971 and wondered who the second guitarist was.Later Santana 3 was released and welcome Neil Schon. The rest is history.

  • Carlos Santana is a master.

  • You were very fortunate to see them back in the day,I agree Neal &Greg were a big part of santana that should of stayed around, but the of course when that door closed another door opened which was journey<Im glad for the songs they wrote with the all time great Steve Perry and gave journey their unique quality sound.

  • this is the JAM , LISTEN IF YOU CAN

  • All the bands jammed back then.

thats one thing that disapoints me about this era of

music, theres no room for error. its just set.

    no soul.

  • I think they were actually a better sounding band back whenthey had neal and Greg on board, awesome performance

  • I agree with you whole heartedly ...Gregg is from my home town of Palo Alto, CA ...Though 5 yrs older than me ...I saw them many times back in the day. In fact many times as The Santana Blues Band and was totally shocked at the Palo Alto High Grad night in '69 when they played. I expected the same blues line-up and they unleashed this totally fresh sound. It was 2 months before Woodstock and as seminal a musical moment as there has been in my life...

  • Neal Schon looks about 16 years old here.

  • Neal Joseph Schon (born February 27, 1954, on Tinker Air Force Base near Oklahoma City, Oklahoma)

  • You are correct, Sir ...He went to High School in San Mateo, right up the road from me and is 2 yrs younger than me ...This is right after he joined ...You'll note that he hasn't really worked himself into any leads yet...

  • Wow Jungle strut Live!!!!!, one of the best songs from Santana !!!!!!!!!

This song is tooo dope, when I first herd it I couldn't stop playing it!!!

  • No one can beat them

    Viva Santana

  • God in heaven, santana on earth, my friends!

  • Great performance by a great band! Wow!!

  • great, Thanks!

  • I'm DYING to see them

  • very nice. and thats neal schon on rythm guitars. he was just a kid then. then played for journey " of course".

  • The cops are digging every minute of it.

  • green wrote it santana owned it..

  • and santana owned it?? what do you mean by that?

  • relax, man. when bob dylan heard jimi do all along the watchtower he said "well, that's jimi's song now." same with otis redding & aretha franklin's version of respect. sometimes people write songs & it turns out they were waiting for another person to come along make it come alive. this song is a good example. peace :)

  • lol um i forgot what i said and i couldn't find my comment haha

  • He made it his own.

  • santanas one of my favorite bands, but you gotta give Peter Green the credit he deserves

  • no puede ser...el timbalero es Willie Bobo!!! increible junto con Santana que precioso ver esto!!!

  • Microsoftsourcecode, thanks for this old video of Santana in Africa, where is Chepito "The Timbalero" the king of timbals.

  • Yeah ! Right On. Nuthin' like Old School Santana ! Is that Bootsy Collins on Bass ! ?

  • LOL@Bootsy Collins. No m8 the bass player is called Dave Brown. He played bass on the 1st 4 albums and also on the Amigos album.

  • @stonyboys hahaha bootsy playing with santana?? that would be insane!

  • This was such a killer line up.

  • That is so magnific i never see santana in fire like that that was AWESOME !

  • Awesome... Superb... Great job... and Thanks!!!

  • Wow that Lespaul custom is realy working out for him.

  • Uh ya think?

  • Santana's greatest line up hands down. Best vocals rythym section all the instrumentations.

  • Greg Rollie was the organ guy, Neal Schon (spelling is probably off) was the guitarist. Give him a break, he was like, 20, then.

  • 17 actually! And he was damn good!

  • Comment removed

  • The white guy gutair player and organ player sarted the band journey, thats the journey gutiar player. He looks wet behind the ears here.

  • I have heard rumors that Carlos was egocentric and wanted to be seen always as the man on the guitar. I often wondered why he hires Neal as a 2nd guitarist.

  • Yea he sort of was. Not to be rude, but that sort of thing happens once in awhile no biggy.

  • Its not cause he needs any help trust me... he was teaching him

  • I mean afterall they are called Santana right? :)

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode Truth is Santana was movin' towards the fusion side of jazz.Rolie and Schon wanted to rock-out more or less. Thus Journey was formed, their first 3 lps. showed they had the right idea.

  • Willy BoBo on those timbales

  • This is the best Santana Concert ever assembled. They probley sounded like this every night of the week too.

  • well, schon was only 19....

  • amazing

  • fucking rocking!shoooooooooooooooooooooou

  • esta a todas margaritas sobre todo por el sonido africano

  • UNA MAZAAAA!!! ALTO VIAJE!!!

  • the best student from el ..BRUJO..XAVIER BATIZ

  • Batiz was not his "teacher." Yes, Batiz introduced him to the blues and admired him, but Batiz did not teach him "how to" play the guitar. This is a myth. Carlos in his biography said Batiz was stingy and would turn his back so Carlos wouldn't see what he was doing. His band mates probably had more influence on Carlos because they introduced him to Latin music and jazz - what really defined Santana's sound.

  • yup! batiz just opened santanas mind to play the blues rock but never showed him how to play it.

  • Santana only saw the Batiz band (the TJs) perform. They never sat down and even jammed together-only after Santana became famous, of course. That is all, as far as him being his teacher. It is arrogant on Batiz part to promote this myth.

  • insantly favourited. this is amazing

  • This is awsome...what a band...Michael Shrieve on drums is a true master of rhythm (and so young he was there!)...what the hell...the whole band are masters!...I think getting the second guitarist in was a mistake though. The people their don't seem to get it though...? Ghana...the country of Hi-Life and Afro beat! Thanks for the video!

  • 2nd gtr was Neal Schon!

  • That fro on him was too funny, even for the era

  • best guitar player in the world!

  • santana doing what he does best playing from the soul and listening with his heart feeling the moment and rythm unlike any guitar player and if there is another tell me cuz i sure as hell wanna know

  • santana rock'z!

  • wow, great!!

  • Carlos looks a Lion

    lol

  • Brilliant! This sound is why I got into Santana in the early 70s. I loved the look too!

  • It looks like the lower manual on Gregg Rolie's Hammond isn't working and I see a broken key on the upper manual. Must have been a rough time getting it to Africa!

  • the band is wonderful !! Eternal music

  • Oh I didn't know this was a competition, I was just enjoying the music...

  • THE DE-BA-DIP

  • ¡¡¡VIVA CARLOS SANTANA!!!

  • i havnt listened to him much but hes amazing

one of my favourite guitarists now!

  • i need a les paul..

  • I wanted to see that Queen one more time at the end! She is beautiful!

  • Neal Schon joined the band at age 16 and played at Woodstock

  • If you look at the Woodstock Santana video you can see Carlos is the single guitar, just like all the personnel listings for Woodstock say it is.

  • Schon was not at the Woodstock concert. He joined the band in 1971, and left with Rollie in 73 to help form Journey.

  • excellent...

  • Willie Bobo was brought in because chepito had suffered an enurism or however you spell it! I love this, no other band can do this!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!

  • The best Santana era. Together with "Chepito" Arias (who isn't on this video) made 3 superb albums. Look at Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie (guitar and keyboards), 2 years later of this festival, they founded Journey.

  • Looks like Willie Bobo.

  • Terifficly Inspiring Brill/Brilliant,This band made an album called Barbbroletter/in early 80's after listening went out and put deposit on sax/ eventually learnt to play.Thats Inspiring?

  • thats classic

  • This starts with Jungle Strut, what a gem, from SAntana III, this and Batuka are the best and most underrated tracks of that album. The rendition BMW is just as great, I think this is the best 10 minute of Santana live playing I've ever seen, thank you mic'sourcecode por posting it. You should post more from this concert, if you have more,

  • This is Jungle Strut, what a gem, from SAntana III, this and Batuka are the best and most underrated tracks of the album.

  • Damn thats Neil Schon on the 2nd guitar!!!

  • amazing the classics

  • a classic gem ..

  • nice!!

  • kool

  • santana bueno emm es basicamente lo mejor del mundo xD

  • funkiest band ever !!

  • Classic Santana, Music and Line Up. This is what Santana were all about for me unlike Supernatural where he was virtually a guest on his own album!

  • FUC KCUCK FUCK FUCKING MOTHERFUCKING SHITFACE PUSSY FUCKING GREATNESS>..... this is beyond words....... beauty.

  • 2007..a living legend..Mr Carlos Santana
