I think it's great, great work that you are doing- Single moms & Dad's aren't bums! We can't change who our partners are, or possibly know the reasons for why they left or what they were thinking.........it'd be nice to have mom (or dad) around, but the life of a child is life-changing. I'm 100% committed to ensuring that my children get everything they need out of life. Work.School.Kids- Love my babies!

sometimes things happen that, that wasn't planned it apart of life. maybe a couple married or not plan to have a baby but then something happens like a parent dies or just ditches on the family. don't blame it on the mother or the father, blame it on the parent that left. i am a child of a single parent and i know for one how difficult it is for my mom to support my brother and me. she has to work two jobs and doesnt recieve child support and it's not her fault my dad is an ass hole.

Have a baby with a boyfriend, yeah thats cool, build your life on quicksand then start moaning to everyone about, ooh its sooo hard, I get no help, I have no money, I have no time for myself. Well thats the life you wanted when you had unprotected sex with the local asswipe, why gripe about it now? NOOOO, dont tell me you didnt realise that you had to make preparations in order to raise a child? Like provide a stable home and an income from a job. You beg from taxpayers, to clean your mess.

@shabba1966 but you gotta think there are single moms in different situations. Maybe there baby's daddy had some kind of medical condition or accident that led the unthinkable, leaving the mom alone. I know these people and most single moms seem like dumb asses (because they are), but have at least a little sympathy.

@therotaryrocket yeah you are right, I may have sounded a little harsh but I just wish that these women would at least think about what life the child is going to be born into before they embark on a baby quest. With all the contraceptions that are available these days it is hardly an excuse to say it was unplanned or an accident. And believe me when I say that I have great respect for the women who work hard to provide for their children without trying for a free ride from taxpayers.

no one wants to tell it like it is. no one wants to see their sisters, aunts, daughters in that position... but when they are, tip toe around the situation. Women IN these situations not only dont want to take responsibility, but expect praise. why is it an "inspiring" story nowadays instead of a cautionary tale? because there are so many?

where is the serious message that this is not want you want for life. no one says it.

While on the bus, with my three daughters, due to the fact my truck broke down. A man made a comment to me...he said, "It's not easy is it?"

I said, "No, but it's not impossible either."

You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. Never give up. WE are only as strong as we push ourselves to be.

as a single parent myself,,been single is not what we want,,when relationships,go bad,or a death of a parent,its hard,and to which in its self we can survive i have three boys and not 1 as ever been in trouble with the police,,so dont blame the kids its whats thrown at them in this country,,so DIHLE12 try been a single parent before criticing them

@singlemumof3. I wasn't attacking single parents and hope you didn't feel that by my comments. Came from a mum who raised 4 boys on her own on £400 a month without any tax credits. Take my hat off to real parents who care. Gov need to control what it's spent on. Of course my ex is entitled to night's out, but not every night and stopping contact unless I pay an extra £30,000 to see them. Take care, you sound like a great mum.

Raising them on his own, struggling to make ends meet, benefit system confusing, feels shattered and exhausted, watching what you spend. My partner's ex went through Gingerbread. He held back the kids for benefits, didn't find benefit system confusing as he gets £29,500/year, watches what he spend £130/month on sky, hasn't worked in past 10 years and is so exhausted that when he leaves kids into school late he goes back to bed until school pick up. Nice one Gingerbread!
