@RX93NuGundam I know what you mean. John Denver's song always remind me of my childhood. My daddy would play his songs all of the time. Makes me miss it and now I'm 17. I don't want to grow up. But I'll just listen to his songs and remember those wonderful times growing up :)
I have known the words to this song for most of my life...I made a jazz standard tape for my Scottish granny with this song "snuck" in at the end and she LOVED it!~~~ I miss you so much Granny! you are sunshine then, now, and always<3
i first heard this song while watching youtube videos on aspen colorado fall pictures and heard this to the video and fell in love with john denver i love you!
first time i ever heard this song was on PBS, as a song they were using to teach sign language. i learned it, which led me to learn Signed Exact English to be able to help the parents of autistic children in my daycare to talk to one another....i spoke it for years, along with verbal English. wish i still could, going deaf as i am

When I met my a very special woman who will always mean the world to me I began listening to John Denver a lil more deeply than ever before. It helped me a lot. But this song is my favorite. It makes me forget about the stress in life n evil that's out there. I really appreciate this song.
I love this song, brings back alot of old memories of growing up. The movie Sunshine was the best movie I saw. I watched it many times over and over with my mom and Nonny....
When I was pregnant I heard this song all the time, I loved it! So when my baby girl was born I wanted to name her Sunshine, I'm sorry I didn't because she is the Sunshine of my life! Every time I hear this I think there is her song!
I'm go grateful I can appreciate music like this. The depth of feeling and emotions it brings out....... I always feel sorry for people who think today's pop music is where it's at.
...I had never been to California, we were cruising down 7 mile hwy when I saw this very strange plane flying very low across the water, 20 minutes later the radio announced John Denver's plane had crashed into the ocean. He was and always be my favorite. I have never been back to California..and I miss you John but your music will live on forever..."far out!!!!"
I came across this song and video looking for videos about sunsets. Im glad I did. Everytime I listen to this song and this video, it makes me appreciate the little thing in life.
This is my all time favorite John Denver song! when i am in the sun and its beating down on my shoulders it feels so good makes me happy and this song comes to mind!
I remember seeing a T.V. movie back in the seventies based on this song about a young woman dying of cancer who was making tapes for her baby daughter so she would be able to know her mommy loved her, even beyong the grave...sad, sad movie. :'(
in my advanced learning class we learned how to play some of these sonngs on guitar, and we also watched a lot of videoos of him in concert,he is a huge inspiration to me,personally for spreading happiness and not letting himself become sad and depressed, because there is no reason to be sad, just be happy!

Wow-this guy was ALWAYS spreading the joy wasn't he? What a wonderful talent! And he truly worked for the "betterment" of mankind. How lovely! We appreciate and miss you John Denver!! Thank you for your beautiful gift
A true poet of his generation, Mr. Denver was an iconic symbol of the dichotomy of the American society of the late 80's and 90's. His message to all was before it's time and still can make a tremendous difference to those sensitive enough to let it make a difference... if you're here reading this I have to believe you're one of those who can affect that change. Go with John!
Such a voice and words that make tremble - reminds me of my son who died and well this makes me think of him as he was always smiling and his eyes just light up a room along with his smile - just thought I'd say
My parents listened to this music when I was a boy in the house in the woods by the waters edge where i lived. That was many years ago now, but John brings me back to the house on the lake. Damn i miss those days.
This song brings back memories for me of the Spring of 1974. March and April specifically. The long hard Winter over with. The freshness of the flowers and sunny blue skies in my area. Remember hearing this song often on the radios in the early Spring of 1974.
If every man, woman and child on Earth embodied the sentiments expressed by John Denver in his songs pain and suffering would cease to exist. Do not send the tools of war or what have you ever, send this great man's songs.
I'm so glad I grew up during a time with such beautiful music. Watched the MTV Music awards a few nights ago. Wow. Times sure have changed musically, that's all I will say...
Hi I,m from India. The first time I heard this song was atleast 20 yrs back wen I was a 8 year old kid. This song was used here in a campaign to encourage ppl towards eye donation. From that day wenever I hear this song I feel like crying, tears of sadness & happiness as well, it makes me realise how beautifull the small things in life are, which we tend to ignore in our day to day routine life. Thanx a lot for the post.
@briscotigger ive gotta say man. im a metalhead, i am. country gets a separate trash bin. but john denver is more than country my friend: hes just himself. he doesnt have a genre, the only thing he had was a gift for songwriting and a passion for making others feel this way. nestled between my pantera and my zepplin, john denver sits with his hand-me-down acoustic, smiling.
@ZucchiniSlayer You disgraced Zeppelin by having them in the same sentence as Pantera. Anyway, John Denver plays american folk, which is sort of like Country. Also, Zeppelin has some Folk songs, too, so you probably should have named a different band if you wanted contrast.
i once saw him perform in south carolina,, he was on a revoling stage singing many of his songs.....when he sang "sunshine on my shoulders. it brought me to tears..........it still does these many years later...he was a great one...
as for Annie song, i still have a hard listening to the whole song.....beautiful and yet sad at the same time.....thanks john................
i was only 16 when i heard this song...i've watched "my sweet lady" and once again ,this was sang also.....so sweet to recall the days when songs have really meaning not like today.....thanks
This brought back the tears, the joys, the sorrows, everything remembering my uncle. He was a HUGE John Denver fan, and when he died at the age of 60 on May 14, 2010 His IPOD was playing John Denver, this song included. It was one of the last songs before my uncle took his last breath. Love and miss you Uncle Chuck ~ 04/25/1950 - 05/14/2010
@erica fawn i too was deeply moved by your comment im a single disabled grandfather of three little ones whom i am responsible for every day and although it takes its toll on me both physicaly and mentaly i wouldnt have it any other way i just wish my daughter would grow up and see what she is missing out on but, also i couldnt imagine my life without these three beautiful little angels.
@TheRealDealReview you portray our generation as being a bunch of uneducated druggies. I like Busta Rhymes plenty, but I don't talk like a moron, nor do I dislike great music. Please kindly, never post on this page again if you have no appreciation for the great artists of the world, especially those who have passed on to meet their Maker.

This is the purest, and most beautiful rendition. It is on the Poems, Prayers, and Promises album before the 45 hit was released in 1974 with the commercial and orchestral "enhancements". Thanks to whoever posted it and thanks to my son for borrowing his account.

@ericafawn2011. Hi Erica, i'm so sorry to hear that your dad made that decision. However i know he still loves you very much. Someday he'l realize the mistake that he made, so if he ever ask you to forgive him, FORGIVE HIM!, becouse one thing you don't want is to have anger in your heart, bcuz you'l always be MISERABLE. You might not know this, but alot of us who have read your cries are feeling your PAIN, but remember, THE SUN WILL ALWAYS RISE!.
@Glimmermann1 It's okay. I've learned to accept it. I know deep down inside he does but he just doesn't know how to show it and I think that's the one thing that hurts the most. I'm pretty sure he's realized it, but I don't think he knows what to say or what to do to make everything better. All I want is for him to actually say that he's realized it and that he's sorry & everything will be okay between us.
@ericafawn I read your response to elibu50, and must say i was DEEPLY MOVED, that it made me teary eyed. I'm not the warmest of men, but there's nothing more hurtful than a parent not wanting to be a part of they're child's life. I know your father loves you very much and maybe something's confusing his right way of thinkn, so give him some time, i'm sure he'll come around. I'll say a prayer for you and your dad and i hope that GOD hears me. Hang in there SWEETHEART and GOD BLESS YOU!
@Glimmermann1 Thank you soo much.. But this past week everything came to an end. As of right now, the only dad I have, or shall I say, the only Father figure I have is my step dad who has been in my life since I was 3 years old. And I know I shouldn't say this, but I'm alright with that. But thank you again. :)
I'm sorry that you don't see your dad as much as you want to.I hope he somehow comes across your comment here and realizes what he is missing.I have three children, one of whom doesn't want to have anything to do with me for reasons only known to him.i have a great relationship with my other two children and hope i always will.Life is too short for such pain and heartache.Call your dad and tell him you miss his singing. You're never too big to sit on his knee.
@Richiefromcork He never gets online so I know he wont come across this.. haha. I am sorry to hear that and I hope things get better for you. I agree that life is too short, but try explaining that to my father. He is the most stubborn person I know. haha.
John Denver is the first musical memory I have. My dad used to play this to me, and when I was older we would sit up until the early hours singing to him.
We played this song at my dad's funeral as his coffin was carried in... and I like to picture him now sitting somewhere with the sunshine on his shoulders.
Whenever I listen to John Denver's music, it's like he is here with me again.
Thanks John , this is a great song .

Thanx a lot for the post.

john denver is my favorite and brad psailey i do not like some singers but i am big fan of country.
briscotigger 6 months ago
@briscotigger ive gotta say man. im a metalhead, i am. country gets a separate trash bin. but john denver is more than country my friend: hes just himself. he doesnt have a genre, the only thing he had was a gift for songwriting and a passion for making others feel this way. nestled between my pantera and my zepplin, john denver sits with his hand-me-down acoustic, smiling.
ZucchiniSlayer 6 months ago
@ZucchiniSlayer You disgraced Zeppelin by having them in the same sentence as Pantera. Anyway, John Denver plays american folk, which is sort of like Country. Also, Zeppelin has some Folk songs, too, so you probably should have named a different band if you wanted contrast.

Glimmermann1 8 months ago

RIP dad, RIP John- thank you for the music.
