Incidentally the restored Globe is based on a design created by my neighbour John Orrell, one of the best Shakespeare profs I have ever read (or met for that matter.)
Still, one of the most undeserving Academy Award victories of all time. It was well known the politics got her this cause Hollywood wanted many more young actress to come out to show their talents. And seeing how worthless Paltrow's career after this win is, Fernanda Montenegro REALLY should have won for Central Station. Young actresses will come anyway, Academy, even if u didn't give the Oscar to Paltrow.

However I think she's one of the most plain actresses that recieved this award, her speach is lovely. One of the most enjoyable to watch, most honest.

In Gwyneth's defense, her father was diagnosed with cancer a few days before she won and her cousin and her grandfather had just recently died. That's why she was emotional

Ok, as much as I love Paltrow, her performance and the movie itself, that was cate's award. She was stunning as Elizabeth, and she was the deserving one that year. Still, I'm happy for Paltrow, I love her and that movie...

Yeah Cate was great, but Gwyneth was too. The crying really wasn't that bad, I don't see why it was so sensational, at all. There is a lot of emotion going up there. Nothing wrong with it in my book.

@shinozukeable What I don't like is how people (maybe not you) complain that the Academy unfairly favors dramatic performances over comedic performances, and then when a comedic performance wins, everyone says a dramatic performance should've beaten her. It's apples and oranges to compare the two, but in my opinion, either one of them winning would've been great. They certainly both deserved to be nominated.

@CreaMrTive Fernanda Montenegro and Emily Watson (surprisingly) has not received their oscars yet.. and everyone is in an uproar (including me), because a simple, could-have-been-much-more, lifeless performance by Gwyneth Paltrow beat one of the most powerful and greatest performances of all time done by Cate Blanchett.. (This was also Paltrow's only nomination and Cate Blanchett has 5 oscar noms)

I've seen Elizabeth once, Shakespeare in Love at least 3 times. And I will never get over Paltrow getting this over Blanchett. I like Paltrow, she deserved the nomination, but the win . . . just YouTube Blanchett's performance in Elizabeth if you don't believe me . . . just 3 minutes of Cate's performance trumps all of Paltrow's in SIL.
