Yeah, 9.95 a month, BUT remember, the cost of the slow modem itself (300 to 2400 bps) and the fact that unless you want to risk being knocked offline by an incoming phone call, you either needed to have it's own separate phone line (which would run you about $20-30 more a month) or use it late at night/after midnight
In France we had a dish like this in every home circa 80, it was called the minitel. The only thing it did was to delay the rise of internet in France.
Look what it's doing, and not doing. A modern PC is a Ferrari towing a caravan. Windows and Mac users are accustomed to shite
Everyone knows hardware improves exponentially; not so many notice that bad, bloated software increases its system requirements exponentially too. So if you put up with that, then at best, performance can only increase linearly
You do not appreciate the supercomputer I assure you that you own
If you mean downloads are quick, they've been cut
@Sepharite Pretty expensive I'd gather, computers were not cheap either, we had an NEC 386 computer with DOS and XTree gold (a pseudo operating system) that cost $2000.00
@ShopperSnake Hmm, well Prodigy didn't have a web browseruntil 1995. It depends what you mean by internet. The web was invented in 89, so you couldn't have it before then, usenet maybe? I remember the Sid Meier's pirates game in 87 had an internet address in it, a numerical one- not sure if it was an IP address though.

Not sure what's more nostalgic: the 3 1/2" and 5 1/4" floppies, or the monstrosity of a phone at the end..
Love the double-take of 1:26...as he looks back to make sure the coast is clear - You KNOW he's gonna go pixel porning!

@FrogJacuzzi
Damn! I was both cocky and wrong! A bad combo
The increase in performance can still be exponential, now I think about it harder. But not the doubling every two years that it's sold to us as.

9.95 was worth 1000 of today's dollars in 1990.

funkyflapjacks 10 months ago
@funkyflapjacks not internet, that specifically refers to it's parts, usenet, web, etc. Prodigy had it's own services.

My father worked for Prodigy back in the late 80s all the way to 96. Nobody believes me when I told them I had internet access back in the 80s.
