I would love to discuss. Making 20 units I in recycle business. And service. Bars in the French. Quarters. I already. Crush there glass. Would love to create units for them. Please email me arougee@gmail.com
@RS67Man is that a stepper motor? how much power and torque is the motor? what is your gear ratio? lol sry for so many questions. thanks! btw awsome project GJ! im trying to make one.
We need these in every Kitchen.! Nice. But this would need some protection , legal! from crushing somebody's hand. That could happen, and then you out of business, sued.
@SuperK0rn The reset button must be pushed anytime either door is opened or a overload condition (machine jammed) is present and trips the protection curcuit..
I already have a can crushe myself, and I am working on making it automatic (pneumatic) I have a set of retro-reflective sensors, but I do need the reflector for these to work,
What specific sensor type is it that one that you have, If you don't mind telling me. you said laser beam sensor is that true ?
looks to me like you would crush the CHIT outta you're hand if you ever stuck it in there. I'm not sure if I like or dislike the laserbeam auto start thing. KISS
I do not have the means to reproduce this. However, I would consider a business arrangement to a established company if they wanted to take on production. Just simply buy me out and it is yours.
I gotta say, that is neatest contraption I've seen here for can crushers. I save aluminum cans for charity. I was thinking about putting something in a fun center someday. That would be ideal, cause it would be interactive with the kids and the aluminum sale would go to a good cause.
There are probably several companies you could sell it to on the internet.
A friend of mine brainstormed a pneumatic crusher today and I think electric is more practical. Yes, a lot of people have air compressors but electric is more convenient and cheaper really. You've put a lot of thought and work (good job!) in this gadget but why wouldn't you just go all the way and build a baler with a little more tech and material. The recyclers always bale the cans anyway; you could market a product that saves time for the common person AND the recycling company.
Great concept but obviously designed by an engineer. A $25 concept that will be available for $299. A clue to all the engineers commenting about torque ratios and such (roflmao), you are the reason most of american manufacturing is now overseas!
Not sure if this is meant as a positive comment or not, but I assure you that I never took any formal schooling for, and never worked as a engineer. I should have, but I made bad choices when I was younger. The original inspiration was a commercially made manual can crusher that worked on the same principals, I just motorized it and automated it. Over engineered of course, but it works and will be used in my kitchen for years to come.
I like the principle of the offset crusher just like the stroke of a piston in an engine nice.Gives me an ideal of making a crusher thats hand powered manual.Of course it won't have all the electronic lites and sensors but it will crush the cans. Thanks thats a neat little machine.
as a safety feature i'd put like a secondary laser so if both are block lets say by a kids hand or other foreign matter like a toy the crusher won't activate
I am just a hobby machinist and tinkerer. If I had made some better choices in my youth, I could have gotten the education needed to become a engineer of some sort.....
If a full sealed can is placed into the crusher, it will attempt to crush it, then the overload protection circuit will trip and shut the crusher off, and make the red LED on the control panel blink to indicate a overload condition. This is to protect the crushing mechanism, or else the electric motor will destroy the crusher due to the available torque the motor has.
any chance of getting the plans to this crusher??? or close to it anyway??? i am building a crusher because the dumps are getting very full very fast with not only aluminum but everything else....sure would like to build one similar to yours...i have seen many different styles on UT, but i think you have the best crusher.....thanks.....
I never made any plans for this, just built it off the top of my head. That is why it tends to be a bit overengineered and over built in places. I have no intention to make plans or build more.
seems dangerous. what happens if a child puts their hand in it? if the laser automatically starts the machine wont the kid have their hand crushed. you will need a feeder that does not allow hands to get in but the can too drop in without turning wich it looks like you dont want to happen, that will be difficult.
This video was made before the AEACC was complete. Please check out the second video I posted, it shows the completed project. A small child would need to climb up onto the cabinet to even reach into the crushing mechanism. All doors have to be closed before the machine can work, if a door is opened, a reset switch needs to be depressed to get it to work again.
its spelt device... I woulda given him a A+ because he's got the dimensions to fit it into the box, it crushes the can pretty darn flat, has a whole dashboard, motion activated sensor and he's even gone and added some safety features aswell... And I don't exacly see you posting any vid's of a can crusher.
nice thing is if mice ever get in there it doubles as a juicer!

What about the larger cans, RedBull, they are taller and we have a problem crushing them with the smaller crusher....

@klg1956 taller cans are doable, but need to be "precrushed" to fit..... not the ideal thing......:P

tefmpa42 2 years ago
Very flat, less than 1/2 inch, about 1.5cm. I could not duplicate this, and it took me two years to com[plete this one.

Position sensor on crank lets motor to shut off after cycle is completed...

A sensing circuit based on a laser diode, built from scratch.

Great show of Mechanical Advantage. Have you calculated the actual Mechanical Advantage?
ckhemken 2 years ago
The available torque at the crank is about 1500 Ft-lbs......but is limited by the slipper clutch and electronic load sensing circuit.
RS67Man 2 years ago
What is the motor torque? It seems it is multiplied substantially by the gear ratio.
allah69 2 years ago
the electric motor is a reliant electric 1/8hp 1600rpm 120v AC single phase induction motor. It has a 30:1 gear reduction head mounted onto it.
the sprockets are sized to provide a additional 14.4:1 gear reduction. The actual motor torque is only a few inch-lbs, it is all in the gearing.
