  • I totally love this segment!

  • has anyone ever figured this conundrum out yet?did they live in the i just to keep it clean?who built the i?how does it brighten the sky?is it a religious icon with supernatural powers,or is it alien tech that serves a purpose we dont understand??does the i exsist just for them to live in,or do they live in it just to keep it clean?whats its power source? how long was it there?when did they learn of it?? its been 30years,and i still dont get it!! does ANYONE OUT THERE?

  • This is so awesome... Thank you for this!!!

  • A classic!

  • Comment removed

  • Pretty psychedelic, isn't it haha!

  • i downloaded this tune off here.. fun to have it on my playlist lol

  • Blesses to the I n I

  • Aaahhhh....memories. I still think of this song whenever I hear 60s folk music. XD

  • My deceased big brother loved this...

  • LOVE THIS!! So awesome, a great memory. I sure never thought back then that i'd be able to see it again so easily on this thing called my pc, it's smaller than my old Trapperkeepers were! Thx for the post!

  • These guys have no idea how good they got it! I mean polishing a letter I all day? I would gladly polish an I ... if the pay were okay!

  • for those of us OVER 40....this means much more than some child posting a retarded comment.

  • @idontgiveaflyingtoss im not over 40... Yet.. and i like these lol

  • how could it NOT be one of our favorite tunes from the old sesame street..i used to play these for my daughter when she was way little, =)

  • This is one of my fave Sesame Street classics, with the "12" pinball song, and Telephone Rock!

  • Steve Zuckerman wrote this

  • quite a catchy tune =)

  • sounds like lynrd skynrd to me..

  • I bet they're doing bong-hit's in that capital I ........

  • awesome tune!!! i used to turn the tv up when they played this.. i loved it.

  • I think it was just a happy tune so that kids would remember the letter "I"

  • "I" want to see the "Interior" "Inside" their "I"! "It" would be "Interesting".

  • who sings this

  • They almost sound like Emerson Lake and Palmer

  • LOL the things that obsess us. What always bothered me about this video, is THEY ONLY POLISH THE 'I' IN THREE PLACES. It would be three dots shining in the sky, the rest of it dull -n- dirty. Lazy bastards.

  • i think its more about the "eye" close doors... go to sleep, if you take care of your eyes it will brighten up the sky.... we all live in a capitol eye!.... we experience through sight. polishing and scrubbing... making sure vision isnt clouded! etc..... i love this song, i would love for children today to get similar songs on their t.v

  • No matter how many times I hear this, I can't get tired of it

  • ...stands hiiiiigh in theeeee aiiiiir.....

    Love this one.

Who sings this anyway? Sounds a little "John-Denver'ish", although I don't think it's him....

  • Sesame Street's greatest number. It foreshadows Nirvana unplugged.

  • @jannyrcobs Oh man!! I could just see them performing this!:D:D

  • this would be a cool MP3

  • i demand the producers of sesame street reveal the conundrum of the I!i have dwelt fairly deeply on it since i first saw it in i think 78?i was 4.saw it as reruns up till 82.and i still cant figure if the i was built by those little men,or some ancient civilization or something.was it meant as some religous icon to be worshipped,or was it just a structure for them to live in?did they find it or build it? why does it light up the sky?is it magical?nuclear powered?alien tech?TELL ME,DAMNIT! IM 37!

  • I've remembered these tunes for 40 years. Kids have no idea. No Hanna Barbara? No 3 Stooges? No Wile E. Coyote? I will introduce my kids to this stuff. If anyone ever sees an ACME anvil at Home Depot, please contact me. :)

  • Capital I

    Capital I

    Capital I

    Capital I

    I loved this one. :)

  • We all live in a capital I in the middle of the dessert in the middle of the sky and all day long we polish on the I we keep it clean and shiny while it brightens up the sky rubbing it here and scrubbing it there polishing the I so high in the air As we work we sing a lively tune "it is great to be so happy on a busy afternoon!" And when we're through with the day's only chore we go into the I and we close the door
  • It was magical to be a kid in the 70's.

  • 30 years later, this song still rings in my head. I wanted so much to sing with these guys.

  • this makes me happy.

  • Cool song

  • long before atari was a well-known word i have struggled with the conundrum of the capital i to this day.even in my late 30s i still dont know if those guys built the i or if the i only exsists to be polished or the guys only exsist to polish it.is it some religous icon?does it have powers other than to brighten the sky?do the guys live in it or just work there?where did this giant i come from?why do they have this symbiotic relationship with this i?i still dont get it.

  • The "I" is for Idolatry.

  • In case you all were wondering the letter I was used in this song 32 times ( 11 that were capital)...

  • great song!!!!!!!!!

  • "It is great to be so happy...on a busy afternoon!"

  • Kids today are missing out on classics like this.

  • @cesariojpn Me and my brother didn't.

  • @cesariojpn

They sure are! I find the "Sesame Street" of today to be a big disappointment!

  • @cesariojpn Not my little niece and nephew. They have both sesame street old school. Yeah!!!!! And to further raise your spirits, my 7 year old nephew has taken an interest in Greek Mythology. The only bad news is that he said if I were a Greek god I would be Pluto. Still you have to celebrate, huh?

  • @cesariojpn Hear, hear. Children's cartoons today are such bilge.

  • As children back in the 70s we were taught far out things! As we get older we become increasingly ensnared in a world of limits! Soon such wondrous ideas as living in an Capital I high in the Sky seem a distant memory! Why can't we live like that? Oh well back to work tomorrow! Bills to pay...mortgage etc...

  • I loved this when I was a kid. Seeing it again reminds me of how confused I was at how that got that huge ladder through the tiny door.

  • This song makes the capital letter I seem so regal.

  • Anybody notice the similarity to yellow submarine?

  • @TitaniumByFire Next time you think about posting something, just find a book to read instead. Geez.

  • I remember this! XD I Loved this song.

  • I loved this song, where can I get it?

  • you just got it! and boy was it beautiful!

  • @RubenDarioPP um, you didn't learn much in the way of reading skills from Sesame Street, I see... lol it's in the caption.

  • But what I meant was, Is the song on a record? (not a dvd), if so, who is the artist, singer, band, etc? Saludos desde México.

  • @RubenDarioPP Hola. It sounds like Jim Croce. I'm not sure though.

  • @RubenDarioPP Steve Zuckerman is the singer. I doubt it was ever released on a record... on a collection of Sesame Street songs maybe?

  • Nice! I like the style of both the animation and the music.

    :o)# Marc, The Netherlands

  • Andrew Bird uses this one on his live versions of "Imitosis", that's why I love it so much :)

  • so melancholy

  • Hey, I remember that one!!!

  • love it

  • Ah, I heard this clip play in the halls of National Video back in 2000 and was so excited to find out you guys were editing there. I miss working with you. :(

  • it's got that 70's sound :)
