  • I remember my mums one that my brother painted with brown house paint

  • pretend you are michael fox in `back to the future` by substituting plutonium in the flux capacitor for maltesers in the fuel tank of your avenger. the honeycomb molecular structure will actually make the old girl lighter than air and you may well find that at 88 mph ( downhill with tail wind ) you can return the old girl to 1974 when petrol was tuppence h`apenny a tankful a dn your flared action slacks are once again `in vogue` ;-)

  • my aunt is very sick

  • looks like a 1250, rectangular grille badge

  • sounds good for a car that's now 40 years old .

  • I have many happy memories of Avengers back in the day, I had 3 altogether, a 1250 H reg in 1979 that we fitted a 1725 Hunter engine into and rallied for a while, of course we had to replace all the wings, front panels and weld 50% of the chassis to sort the rot! Also a 1500 GT that I used for 'best' and then a 1600 GT - really great cars, good days :o)

  • I had a 1600 DL. It was so torquey that I loved driving it. Had a set of rostyles with low profiles and straight up, it looked the dogs doodahs... :D

  • My dad had a 1600 GLS on a "N" plate with alloys, tan cloth interior, a soft top and finished in metallic blue.

  • ive got that exsact car but with a white roof an aloys not the standerd shit wheels. They will run 4 eva

  • For extra oomph crumble a few oxo cubes into the fuel tank every day and you`ll think you`re at santa pod, oxo is also good for the cooling system as it inhibits rust and is full of beefy goodness.when washing the old girl add a couple of oxo cubes to the soap solution and this will add lustre to your automobile ;-)

  • These cars run great on fizzy cola, its best to put about 2 litres in the tank every time you fill up and that baby will go like stink, it also cares for the environment as if you let it go flat first there is no co2 emissions ;-)

  • My mum had a Chrysler Avenger from 1985 - 1989. It was on a S plate and was a rust bucket, but it was welded up and kept for four years. I have many childhood memories of that car and was sad to see it go. Apart from the rust, generally speaking, it was a reliable car. It never gave any problems that I can remember. It went from Portsmouth all the way to Scotland and back reliably.

  • haah i love my avenger!

  • Grandad's car ?...Maybe now, but in their day a great -handling car, and superior to it's contemporary, the Mk1 Escort (in one of which I passed my test).

My first car was a brand new Avenger DL...company, so could throw it about as I liked :) I was 19 years old then, and it was underpowered for me, but brilliant round the bends with its great suspension set-up. Its closest competitor was the 1300 Marina...say no more. lol!

  • These old smokers run really well on whisky, try a good single malt and the old girl will simply purr and mile for mile it will cut your fuel bills.

  • ha ha had one of these was my dads but he let me have it as my first car c1981 silver/gun metal gray and like this on a j plate 1973 i think and i got 7 init all the way to gt yarmouth, you would get knicked for that now days. this is in very good knick for the year.

  • look at the size of those indicator lamps....lol.

my old man had one of these, I can still smell the interior

  • I have a '73 DL 1500 and its great, fine the suspension sucks but its quick it'll do seventy still and acceleration is as good as a modern car i've surprised plenty of modern stuff on the road, its a good classic and even practical classics mag said the avenger tiger is as good as the escort mexico, just get one thats been looked after is the key.

  • great old cars

  • nice to see one in good shape. my dad had an early H reg with the 1250cc....it promptly shat its bottom end out, I think that was more to do with dads driving style tho

  • you should try running this old girl on chipfat, it will lubricate the engine and give you more power.

  • I used to fit the fenders on these and the sunbeam at the factory in Linwood. In 1979 they had the most modern paint shop in europe and yet still produced scrapheaps full of rust.

  • i am from EGYPT

i was driving one of this model

    it was strong car

  • They were sold in the USA for a few years in the early 1970's as the "Cricket". most were in the tip a few years later.

  • I had the automatic 1600cc. Worst car I ever owned. Terrible fuel consumption and shitty bodywork.

  • The vehicle details for EMD 564J are: Date of Liability 01 05 2010 Date of First Registration 01 12 1970 Year of Manufacture Not Available Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1498CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour BLUE Vehicle Type Approval null

  • remember thes in madeira in the 1970s

  • I had a white 1975 2 door 1300 DL, gotta admit worse nail i ever had but it did have some charm and i loved the fastback styling. Slow as fcuk tho

  • i'm argentinian, and i spent all my chilhood in an argentina-made avenger, same engine, same gearbox.. and i'm very very proud of it, modern cars are crap beside the Avenger. Arge ones are branded Dodge 1500.

  • I had a Hillman Avenger 1500GT in the early 80's

CKV 324K in metalic turquoise with a black vinyl roof and 4 round front lights.

It was very quick & looked good & I still remember it fondly despite it having lots of filler in the wings & numerous problems over about 3 years including bust water pump, duff batteries, 3 starter motors, a chunk missing from the ring gear, the hand brake lever detaching from the floor & it didn't like starting in damp/wet weather or if parked on grass!

  • Yeah...they were rubbish....but then again all the cars I had in the 80s were....including my mini 1275GT

  • I have been a carsales man for over twenty years and My old M Reg Avenger Deluxe in prarie wind mustard with black vinyl seats and the long speedo still is the best and worst car I have ever owned....God I miss it...Started first time and never gave a grumble...Had to keep clearing the dash pot out and fight off rust...Big Sigh....

  • looks similar to a Chrysler Ventura, i think it was called. love the monty python accents

  • I hear they sold this car as the Plymouth Cricket here in the US, but I have NEVER seen one! Looks like they sold better in their UK homeland. Very nice example in the video.

  • I had an Avenger estate and it flew like shit off a shovel

  • currently looking for an estate! you know where there is one??

  • you cant take the piss out of an avenger. hunters and avngers are cool as fuck cars.

my gramps put the doors on that car.

theyre still on so he did a good job.

    haha

  • It was sold as the 'Cricket' in the US, absolutley daft name. Ads in Ireland used to have the tagline 'Nice car, Mr Chrysler!'. So, guess what, people used to come up to me and my Renault 4L and say 'Nice car, Mr Deathtrap'....'Nice car Mr Rustbucket'...

  • remove the chrome bumpers - much nicer shape then (see my vids)

  • no, I have been to busy, makin sweet love with your mum!

  • Great memories, my first ever car was a bright orange P plate Avenger 1300DL. What a hot rod!!!

  • Oh memories... I had an L plate and it was 8 years old. GT model with twin headlights, gold metalic with black vinyl roof. I was the coolest guy in the street ! LOL

  • GTs are so very rare these days! would love to find one!

  • My dad had a J reg silver avenger GT when I was growing up. I used to think it was way cooler than the equivalent escorts of the time.

  • This was state of the art in 1970.

  • hhhhhhh baba bozorge pykan khodemone ha

  • Great car! As a fan of Hillman, I loved it. I used to own a DOdge POlara, which was the brazilian version of the Avenger!
