" You get what you pay for" is the key phrase underlying any complaints, not only about this bike, but most products. You can get a cheap electric bike at most 'Marts" or a big sporting goods store, but just like Ford or Chevy you're gonna get the cheapest parts on that model. If you get an Izip at an Izip dealer the quality is much better than the Ezip model at a department store. The service is bound to be much better because the dealer has a reputation to protect. It's more convenient.
I bought an izip zuma cruiser style bike, got about 320 miles on it and have had no problems except 1 flat tire caused by a huge nail that would have flattened any tire no matter how good.
Look, the guy OBVIOUSLY had probs with his bike. If the DEALER he bought it from took care of him properly he wouldn't have made this vid. ANYTHING that a person makes can have probs, no design is bulletproof OR people proof. The difference is DO they take care of any reasonable probs that come up?
You started to lose me when you were talking about getting flats. MAYBE if the RIM design was flawed and was puncturing the tube? Dunno, never hard of this on ANY kind of bike, so I can't say.
lol the 1st problem he had was that he ate too much McDonalds and grew to over 1000 lbs in just over 6 WEEKS! then he had to have a new liver flown in from China .. but all he got was the run-around! it's too bad they make such a bad product lmao .. whoops blew a tire again ^^
this video is bogus... I am a dealer for currie and we get exceptional support and fast response for any parts or warranty needs. Also, the design is superior to anything else in their price range. Don't listen to this guy.. he doesn't even compare the product or service to anything else on the market. Clearly just an uninformed and aggravated consumer with some cheap video editing software trying to hurt this company.. for reasons unknown.
I find it hard to take complaints seriously when they contain phrases like "all they ever do is give you the runaround."
Really? That's all they ever do? They do nothing else? They don't take lunch breaks? They don't sell parts? Their boss sits them down on day one and says "your job consists of giving people the runaround. Do nothing else".
If that were the case they'd put a $5 answering machine on the line and simply not talk to anyone, ever, for any reason.
The older types with lead acid batteries and brushed motors have been around a while now. They are heavier and clunky compared to the enlightened but they can be overhauled or repaired cheaply by most electric motor shops. That is the trade off. My kids use a Currie powered trike everyday. It's reliable but it does need constant tinkering. It's charger failed and Currie replaced it without question. Sorry you aren't enjoying it. It should be fun.
Both have had many problems, and I am currently in a battle with the shop to get a refund - I may have to go to court. Problems include broken motors, battery connections coming loose, flat tyres, controller broke oe one, and eratic battery life indicators. Beautiful to ride and look at when they are going - but out of 65 days of ownership they have broken down 7 times in total. AVOID
i reccomend ezip..so far i did research and looked at some youtube videos and i noticed that no one has had any problems with the e-zip..people say its not perfect but it does the job very well..its perfect for kids(10-15)but and its pretty good for adults to to save money(gas problems for car). So i would haft to reccomend the e-zip for know and the price is 299$...not bad at all
I've been using my Currie electric bike in Portland (where it rains 150 days out of the year) without any problems. It's never cut out on me during any kind of wet weather.
The bike cuts out under a heavy load up hills, but you just have to go easy on the throttle and pedal assist. If you pedal and ease the throttle it'll get you up that steep hill.
yes- I still love my IZIP and I feel like it was the best deal on the market. I bought one formy wife this summer and have had the same great results. Seems like maybe you have a lemon. You say the ceo replied to you? So how difficult could it be to call him and express your frustrations and ask him to help??
Not true. I had the same issues with customer service when just trying to find out about the Ezip and Izip bikes. After months of run around I sent a letter to Ed Begley . Larry Pizzi(currie CEO) replied. Had the same phone war with Bionx but their product is rock solid with all the info you need. If you work for currie I have a electrodrive motor I need replaced. Lets see how long it takes to remedy. PM me .
Bionx works for me. Had problems with blow outs too. First the original tire couldn't handle my weight too many flats so i changed the tire then the tire was too tough(maxis) and the rim craked whew then I put on a 20 inch Sun Lite BMX rim...problem solved oh buy the way did I mention i weigh 275lbs LOL other than that i have had good service and many good ride over a 3 year period
ok, I was thinking of buying an izip too but I live in a damp climate here in Canada. I am thankful that I saw this video and will now avoid buying one. That just leaves millions of either kits or already made bikes to choose from. SIGH:-)
yah thats completely rediculus it rains all the time here in edmonton i could never ride that..ill stick with my 20 year old norco thats never had a problem lol
Thanks so much for informing everyone interested in this product. My friend was amazed that I was paying so much for mine when he could get so much cheaper buying an Izip.
There's your mistake, then. Buy from someone near you who can deal with the factory on warranty issues. Six weeks delivery from China is reasonable because of the Olympic games.

If the tires are cheap and nasty why don't you replace them with good quality aftermaket tires?

Hi there, I bought two IZIP bikes:
2008 IZIP STREET ENLIGHTENED
2008 IZIP TRAIL ENLIGHTENED for my parnter.
Both have had many problems, and I am currently in a battle with the shop to get a refund - I may have to go to court. Problems include broken motors, battery connections coming loose, flat tyres, controller broke oe one, and eratic battery life indicators. I should say though that I don't have an IZIP Enlightened model like you. I have an older Currie E-ride.
My tires have also never given me problems, but they're big and beefy (the bike itself is close to 80 lbs).

I have an Izip Ezgo for about 8 weeks now. Right when I bought it, I installed stronger rims and Kevlar tires.
I also semi-water proofed my bike.
I've yet to have a single flat tire (even though I ran over some barbed wire and glass) and I can easily go over poodles.
The bike shop near my home says these bikes are easy to maintain and fix.
Maybe you just need to find a store that sells/services electric bikes? A traditional bike store would definitely have problems helping you.
