I JUST NOW realized the thing in the back is the sequencer. Top being bass and bottom being snare, each pair of corresponding lines is a separate measure, played as the white squares move over the red ones. Amazing! Does the screen specifically do that or is he remembering the pattern and order in a video that's playing on it?

It's a giant "touch screen" wired to a drum machine. If you listen closely, there is a glitch in it. The bottom-left red square doesn't activate on the drum machine. It's quickly fixed after he walks off stage, before the guitar comes in.

Do a search for "dots echoplex" and you can get your own sequencer program. It's pretty fun to mess around with and you can load your own sounds into it. Also, if you watch the rehearsal video for Echoplex, you can see the actual drum machine used.

In one video the touch screen didn't work... so he tried to set it and went off the part of the stage and it just went into what needed to be there... so yeah... its a touch screen... but they have backups...
